Chapter 254
Chapter 254
Mu Xin was probably the most relaxed person there at the moment.
She was sitting on the sofa.
Beside her lay Shi Chen, still unconscious.
Before Lu Jing left, he had laid Shi Chen on the sofa and even thoughtfully covered him with a blanket.
If one ignored the blood on Shi Chen’s hand, he would have looked like nothing more than a tired guest resting on the sofa.
Mu Xin sat there, studying Shi Chen for a moment before looking at the guests coming and going.
Afraid that another NPC might come looking for her, Mu Xin didn’t dare move around. Whenever someone approached, she even had to hide beneath Shi Chen’s clothes to keep herself out of sight.
What a miserable predicament.
Mu Xin sighed.
But before she could even finish that sigh, her body was suddenly lifted into the air. The familiar sensation made her expression change drastically.
“Found you.” That familiar voice sounded beside her ear once more.
Mu Xin: “…”
Mu Xin fell into despair.
Once again, she had been caught in the huge, muscular man’s hand.
This time, the man didn’t waste nearly as many words. He grabbed Mu Xin and headed straight outside. Her face paled in fright, and she was just about to cry out for help when the words “Lu Jing!” barely left her mouth. Realizing what she intended to do, the man immediately took something out and stuffed it into her mouth.
Mu Xin: “???”
What was this thing?
With her mouth blocked, Mu Xin had no way to call for help.
However, all her attention was now focused on the object stuffed into her mouth.
It felt like a miniature bottle, and there was actually something inside it. Mu Xin instinctively sucked on it, and something came out of the bottle with a slurp and went straight into her stomach.
Upon realizing that she had swallowed some unknown substance, Mu Xin’s face grew even paler.
Still, it was sweet and tasted pretty good.
Mu Xin thought despairingly that this was probably her final indulgence before death.
The man carried Mu Xin straight toward the entrance.
As the ballroom doors drew closer and closer, Mu Xin sank into utter despair. Once she left the ball, she would probably be erased immediately. But just then…
“Your Highness.” The man suddenly stopped and bowed respectfully toward the air.
Huh?
Mu Xin froze, then opened her eyes and looked over.
A flower was hovering in midair before them. Standing atop it was a beautiful, exquisitely delicate little boy. Many more flowers floated behind him, each carrying a person, some male and some female.
However, none of those flowers were as exquisite as the one beneath the little boy’s feet, nor were their riders as good-looking as he was.
Considering how the man had addressed him…
Was this her fiancé?
For a moment, Mu Xin didn’t know whether she should first celebrate the fact that she hadn’t been taken out of the ballroom and had managed to cling to her life for the time being, or feel sorry for herself because she had somehow acquired a fiancé out of nowhere and now appeared to have been caught running away from their wedding.
While Mu Xin’s thoughts ran wild, the Flower Prince frowned and said, “Let her go.”
The man hesitated. “Your Highness, what if she runs away after I release her?”
The Flower Prince shook his head. “I’m taking back her wings.”
The moment Mu Xin heard that, she began struggling fiercely again.
How was she supposed to get around without her wings? Was she expected to walk on these two legs? The ballroom was so enormous that she had no idea how many years it would take her to make a single circuit on foot.
Mu Xin struggled with all her might, but the Flower Prince remained completely unmoved. He stepped forward, extended a fingertip, and touched her head. To Mu Xin’s astonishment, the wings on her back slipped off with ease and soon landed in the Flower Prince’s palm.
The Flower Prince also removed the little bottle from her mouth.
At that moment, the System’s voice rang out in Mu Xin’s mind.
“Ding! Character mission triggered. Before the ball ends at midnight, obtain the Flower Prince’s forgiveness and make him accept you as his bride once more. Completing the mission will reward you with one piece of information needed to clear the game. Failure will result in erasure.”
Mu Xin: “???”
What the hell?
He had already taken back their token of love and might even be planning to settle the score with her. And now she had been given a mission to become his fiancée again before the ball ended?
She was tired.
She was numb.
Mu Xin had achieved inner peace.
The Flower Prince lowered his head and gazed calmly at the wings in his palm. He closed his hand, and the pair of wings vanished.
Then he looked at Mu Xin again.
“The people of the Flower World never force anyone to do anything,” the Flower Prince said. His eyes were utterly cold as he stared at Mu Xin. “Since you are unwilling to marry me, our engagement is hereby annulled. I will not hold you accountable for your transgressions, but I find your actions utterly repulsive. As the Flower Prince, I warn you: you are forbidden from ever appearing before anyone from the Flower World again. If you violate this decree, I will personally take your life.”
Mu Xin remained calm as well.
Besides staying calm, she had no idea what else she could do.
“Is there anything else you wish to say?” the Flower Prince asked.
Mu Xin thought for a moment, then asked, “What if I said I was willing to marry you?”
The Flower Prince’s expression darkened instantly. “Do you think I’m that gullible?”
“Well… no. But I mean it. Sincerely,” Mu Xin said with exceptional earnestness.
The Flower Prince, however, was completely consumed by rage. He shouted at Mu Xin viciously, “Give up! I could never possibly fall for a stupid, vicious woman like you!”
Mu Xin: “…”
Was there really any need to go that far?
She was his former fiancée, after all.
The Flower Prince no longer wanted to exchange another word with Mu Xin. He turned toward the man and ordered harshly, “Leave her here to fend for herself! We’re leaving.”
With that, the Flower Prince turned to leave with the group of flowers behind him.
“Wait!” Mu Xin cried out hastily.
If the Flower Prince left, how was she supposed to complete her mission?
At the sound of Mu Xin’s voice, the flower beneath the Flower Prince’s feet clearly paused for a moment. But he quickly continued onward.
As for the man holding Mu Xin?
He gave her a contemptuous glance and let go.
Holy shit!
Mu Xin no longer had the slightest attention to spare for whether the Flower Prince was leaving. All she could think about was whether she could possibly survive a fall from this height.
Never in her wildest dreams had she imagined she would die like this.
What a miserable way to go!
Countless thoughts flashed through Mu Xin’s mind, and she felt herself gradually calming down. Forget it. Everyone died eventually. Whether it happened sooner or later, death was still death. She just had to accept it.
In reality, however, Mu Xin screamed the entire way down.
Her screams drew the attention of every NPC in the vicinity, including the Flower Prince, who had already reached the doorway.
“You useless fool! What are you doing?!” the Flower Prince roared furiously.
Mu Xin hadn’t expected to still be able to hear the Flower Prince.
She felt terribly wronged.
It wasn’t as if she had chosen to fall. How was this her fault? Did not having wings make her useless?
As Mu Xin watched the ground rush closer and closer, she felt both aggrieved and miserable. Lu Jing and the others were nowhere nearby. Even if they realized the danger she was in, there was no way they could reach her in time.
She was as good as dead.
Mu Xin slowly closed her eyes and waited for death to claim her.
