Chapter 111
Chapter 111
The group moved forward cautiously for about a hundred meters.
The closer they got, the louder the gunfire became. Soon, enemies appeared in Lu Jing’s line of sight.
Lu Jing immediately dropped into a prone position, propped up his Sniper Rifle, and began to aim at his prey. However, once he got a clear look at the enemy, he froze.
Ever since Lu Jing had completed his training, getting distracted while sniping was as rare as the sun rising in the west. This was a first.
But anyone else in his position, witnessing what he was seeing now, would likely have reacted the same way.
Not far away sat a Military Box, identical to the one Lu Jing had found earlier. Hiding behind it was a “person.” Lu Jing had initially assumed it was a human, but once he looked through his scope, he realized it was an unknown creature roughly the height of a human, covered in fur, and looking very much like a Rabbit.
To be more precise, it was a giant, bipedal Rabbit. And right now, this oversized Rabbit was holding a Sniper Rifle exactly like Lu Jing’s.
The Rabbit was clearly engaged in a battle with someone else-or rather, one could guess, other Rabbits. They were fighting over a Military Box.
This was truly surreal.
A Rabbit was one thing, but a giant one? Walking on two legs was already ridiculous enough, but it was actually using a gun.
Lu Jing felt like this wasn’t Deserted Island Survival anymore; it was more like a fantasy world.
Can a Rabbit even aim?
While Lu Jing was pondering this, the Rabbit behind the Military Box fired a shot in one direction. Simultaneously, a shot was fired back at it.
*Bang.*
The bullet struck the Rabbit square in the head. It collapsed to the ground without a fight.
Lu Jing pursed his lips, feeling for the first time that he couldn’t concentrate. Looking at this thing really made his mind wander.
With the Rabbit behind the Military Box down, Lu Jing remained hidden to observe the situation. His stillness, however, was torture for Qin Nan and the others following behind him.
They didn’t know what was happening. They could only hear bursts of gunfire, leaving them nervous and flighty. Knowing nothing, they could only peer forward anxiously from the rear, while occasionally checking their surroundings for any emerging dangers.
Lu Jing remained perfectly still, his eyes glued to the scope of his Sniper Rifle.
After a moment, another Rabbit came hopping toward the Military Box from the distance.
Although the Rabbit walked upright on its hind legs and held a gun with its paws, there was still a rhythmic bounce to its gait. It was quite amusing, even comical.
If his life weren’t on the line, Lu Jing probably wouldn’t have been able to resist a chuckle.
As for now? Forget it. They were all enemies.
The one that had been killed earlier was a White Rabbit. The one appearing now was a Gray Rabbit, and it was even larger than the previous one, standing roughly 1.8 meters tall.
Though the Gray Rabbit hopped along, it never once lowered the gun in its hands.
Upon reaching the Military Box, the Gray Rabbit immediately fired a finishing shot into the White Rabbit, making sure it was dead. Then, it kicked the White Rabbit aside and began rummaging through the Military Box for resources.
Lu Jing still didn’t move.
After searching for a while, the Gray Rabbit reached out and gestured toward a certain direction.
Before long, another Rabbit came hopping over.
This time, it was a Pink Rabbit. It was even wearing a frilly pink dress with a pink bow on its head. This Pink Rabbit was much more petite, looking to be about 1.6 meters tall.
Lu Jing reached out and made a downward gesture toward those behind him.
Qin Nan and the others had long been growing restless from the wait. Seeing Lu Jing finally make a move, they quickly scrambled for cover and stared at him expectantly, waiting for his next action.
A Pink Rabbit approached the Gray Rabbit.
The two of them began taking things out of the Military Box, muttering to each other as if they were discussing something. Lu Jing couldn’t hear them, nor did he care about the content of their conversation.
He had already sighted the Gray Rabbit and pulled the trigger.
*Bang, bang.*
Two consecutive gunshots rang out, startling Qin Nan and the others. It was only after the fact that they realized those shots had likely come from Lu Jing.
Holy crap.
Did this mean the battle had started?
The group instantly grew tense.
After firing those two shots, Lu Jing didn’t move immediately. Instead, he remained prone on the ground, his posture unchanged.
Qin Nan’s group stayed on high alert for a long time, but after those two shots, everything seemed to return to a state of calm. They waited for what felt like forever without seeing anything unusual, and gradually, they began to relax again.
While their minds relaxed, their bodies were a different story; crouching for so long had made their limbs go numb.
Qin Nan was the first to suffer.
He glanced at Lu Jing, who still hadn’t moved. Not daring to make any large movements himself, Qin Nan could only cautiously shift his legs to ease the stiffness.
Right then-
*Bang.*
Another gunshot rang out.
Qin Nan was so startled he nearly dropped the Military Knife in his hand. His legs weren’t numb anymore; he immediately focused all his attention on observing their surroundings.
There was nothing out of the ordinary. Moreover, hadn’t that shot just now also come from Lu Jing?
Qin Nan fixed his gaze on Lu Jing.
Lu Jing hadn’t acted immediately after the Gray Rabbit and Pink Rabbit appeared; he had chosen to remain in ambush. Since there were enemies present, there was always the possibility of the mantis stalking the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind. He had to be careful. He hadn’t moved against the two Rabbits right away, but once he was certain there were no other “people” targeting them, Lu Jing had unhesitatingly delivered two fatal shots.
Killing the Gray Rabbit and Pink Rabbit didn’t mean they were safe.
There could be teammates of the two Rabbits, or perhaps another “oriole” lurking nearby. Therefore, what Lu Jing needed to do was wait.
As it turned out, his patience paid off.
After a long while, another Pink Rabbit cautiously approached the Military Box. Without any suspense, it became another soul claimed by Lu Jing’s gun.
This was a game of patience.
It was a matter of who would crack first, or who would be the first to assume everyone else had disappeared.
Lu Jing, of course, could hold out; he had waited much longer than this before. It was the group behind him who were to be pitied.
Even Jian Fan was starting to find it difficult to stay still, though he didn’t let much show on his face.
If he knew the full situation, he would naturally have the patience for it. But currently, they were completely in the dark, which was the worst possible state to be in. No one dared to speak to one another, fearing that a single word might trigger some hidden danger.
And danger did, indeed, arrive swiftly.
Lu Jing was aiming at the Military Box when his expression suddenly changed. At the same time a gunshot rang out, he lunged to the side, rolling twice before immediately steadying himself. He fired back-*bang, bang*-two shots toward the source of the sound.
The group, who had been losing their patience, instantly snapped back into a state of high alert.
This time, they were truly in a firefight.
