Chapter 255
Chapter 255
Mu Xin thought she was dead for sure.
But instead of pain, she found herself falling into a gentle embrace.
Wait… a gentle embrace?
Mu Xin’s eyes snapped open.
She was shocked to find the Flower Prince’s face right in front of hers. Looking down, she realized that she was currently in the Flower Prince’s arms, and he was holding her in a Princess Carry.
What?
Mu Xin suddenly felt that there might still be hope for her mission.
“What exactly are you trying to do?” the Flower Prince snapped at Mu Xin. “Don’t think I’ll give you the wings just because you risked your life! They’re the betrothal gift the Prince of the Flower World gives his wife. I can’t give them to you!”
“Then marry me, and you can give them to me,” Mu Xin blurted out.
The Flower Prince: “?”
The Flower Prince froze for a moment before anger flared across his face again. “You’ve gone too far! Do you really think I’ll fall for your tricks a second time?”
Mu Xin stared at the furious Flower Prince. After considering the current plot, she silently felt a twinge of sympathy for him.
Still, although the Flower Prince had apparently been swindled out of both his wealth and his heart, Mu Xin’s life was currently hanging by a thread. On balance, she decided she had it worse.
Without another word, her eyes reddened.
She simply stared at the Flower Prince with tearful eyes, her tears trembling on the verge of falling and her expression full of hurt.
The Flower Prince: “…”
“Why are you crying? I didn’t bully you.” The Flower Prince immediately grew flustered.
Seeing his reaction, Mu Xin now had a good idea of what kind of person he was.
The Flower Prince clearly loved Thumbelina sincerely. He was nothing more than a brat who had been betrayed but still loved her too much to let anything happen to her, so he hid his feelings behind a nasty facade.
Now that Mu Xin had figured him out, she knew how to handle him.
She lowered her head and pressed her lips together, looking thoroughly aggrieved. “Put me down. You’re a Prince, while I’m just a useless good-for-nothing.”
The Flower Prince: “…”
The Flower Prince hurried to explain, “When I called someone useless earlier, I wasn’t talking about you.”
Mu Xin shook her head. “You don’t need to comfort me. I understand.”
The sight of Mu Xin’s aggrieved expression and reddened eyes left the Flower Prince increasingly restless and irritable.
At the same time, several flowers rose into the air behind them. Standing atop the one in the lead was a beautiful little girl in a princess dress, with a lovely pair of wings on her back.
She glared indignantly at Mu Xin. “Prince, don’t let this liar fool you! All she wants is that pair of wings. She doesn’t love you! No one in this world loves you more than I do, Prince.”
Well, well.
At that declaration, Mu Xin stole a glance at the little girl. How had this suddenly turned into a romance novel?
Could her story have been twisted into some over-the-top melodrama?
The male and female leads loved each other, but a third party drove a wedge between them and caused countless misunderstandings. Then, after putting each other through endless emotional torment and every melodramatic twist imaginable, they finally reconciled, and the Prince and princess lived happily ever after?
As Mu Xin pondered this, she put on a self-conscious, dejected expression.
She had no idea what Thumbelina’s original personality was supposed to be, so she might as well improvise.
The Flower Prince’s expression visibly darkened when the little girl called Mu Xin a liar. When he saw the insecurity and dejection on Mu Xin’s face, conflict flickered across his own.
In the end, he spoke, but his words were directed at the girl from the Flower World.
“Watch your words.”
“Big Brother Prince!” The little girl could hardly believe her ears.
The Flower Prince glanced at her and replied, “I offered her my wings of my own accord. She didn’t trick me.”
Hearing this, Mu Xin clicked her tongue inwardly.
The Flower Prince continued, “What happens between her and me is none of anyone else’s business.”
“Big Brother Prince, you’ve really lost your mind!” The little girl stared at him in disbelief for a long moment. When the Flower Prince remained completely unmoved, she flung out an arm in fury and rode away on her flower.
Several others followed her out.
Mu Xin watched them from the corner of her eye. Once they were gone, she put on a pitiful expression and said, “You really didn’t have to defend me, Prince.”
“I wasn’t interested,” the Flower Prince replied coldly.
Mu Xin was baffled.
This Flower Prince was really something else.
While complaining inwardly, she struggled to climb out of the Flower Prince’s arms.
“There’s nothing between us anymore, Your Highness. Please put me down.” Despite her words, Mu Xin deliberately clutched his sleeve tightly, looking as though she couldn’t bear to let him go.
Whatever the Flower Prince might have been thinking, he did intend to put Mu Xin down. But with her gripping his sleeve so firmly, he had no way to do so.
The Flower Prince fell silent.
Mu Xin… Mu Xin merely looked up at him with tear-filled eyes.
“Let go,” the Flower Prince said bluntly.
Mu Xin feigned surprise, then acted as though she had only just realized what she was doing and hurriedly released his sleeve. As soon as she let go, the Flower Prince set her down on his flower.
Both of them were now standing on the Flower Prince’s flower.
Mu Xin glanced at how high it was above the ground and had no choice but to speak again. “Your Highness, could you lower me to the ground? I… I can’t get down by myself.” As she spoke, she anxiously wrung her fingers, looking every bit the poor, helpless thing.
The Flower Prince was at a loss.
In the end, he could only nod and make the flower descend.
As soon as it reached the ground, Mu Xin climbed off. She walked away slowly, looking back every few steps as though she couldn’t bear to part from him. But after glancing back three times, she resolutely marched forward without another look, though she made sure her retreating figure resembled someone fleeing in distress.
The Flower Prince frowned.
“Your Highness, we should leave,” someone behind him reminded him.
The Flower Prince nodded and once again directed his flower toward the exit. But just as they reached the ballroom doors, the flower came to a halt.
“Since we’re already here, we might as well stay until the ball is over,” the Flower Prince said.
Everyone exchanged glances, but no one dared object to the Flower Prince’s decision.
As for Mu Xin…
After parting ways with the Flower Prince, she relied on her own two feet and ran as hard as she could toward the sofa where Shi Chen was sitting.
Unfortunately, she was tiny, and her legs were even tinier. Even after running for ages, she had barely covered the distance of a normal person’s single stride.
But Mu Xin had no other choice.
Just as she was desperately racing ahead, her body was suddenly lifted into the air again. Mu Xin jumped in fright, but before she could scream, a familiar voice sounded beside her ear.
“I’ll take you over.”
Mu Xin froze. That was… Zhou Jingying’s voice?
