Chapter 105
Chapter 105
The group finally reached the banana trees.
Lu Jing slung his Sniper Rifle over his back and nimbly climbed up a tree. Using the barrel of his rifle to poke at the clusters, bunches of bananas came clattering down one after another.
The others weren’t picky; they simply picked them up from the ground and started eating.
Judging that they had enough, Lu Jing put away his gun and climbed down from the tree.
When Qin Weiyi and the others approached, he handed some bananas over. Lu Jing took them and sat down on the ground, saying, “Everyone, eat something and rest for a bit. I’ll head up further to take a look in a while.”
No one objected.
Qin Nan was the one whose physical strength was most depleted.
He had already done a ton of work before this, and after climbing the mountain for so long, he collapsed onto the ground the moment he saw the banana trees, unwilling to move another inch. Even his bananas had been gathered and handed to him by Jian Fan.
By the time Lu Jing spoke, Qin Nan already had two bananas in his stomach and was currently peeling his third.
“There’s no need for us to look further. You go first. If there’s a place to stay, give us a shout. If not, then forget it. This mountain climbing business isn’t for us,” Qin Nan said.
Orange Hair was also exhausted and quickly voiced his agreement. “Seconded.”
Lu Jing chuckled. “Fine, I’ll go take a look by myself in a bit.” As he spoke, Lu Jing glanced at Qin Weiyi.
Qin Weiyi didn’t refuse. He patted his pocket.
Inside his pocket were the Pistol and Military Knife Lu Jing had given him for self-defense. Among those present, aside from Lu Jing, he was the best-equipped. Moreover, Jian Fan and Qin Nan weren’t the type to stand by and watch someone die.
As long as the Realm of Death didn’t pull any stunts, his safety was currently guaranteed.
After eating a few bananas, Lu Jing felt he was ready. He stood up and brushed the grass off his clothes.
“Don’t you need to rest a bit longer?” Qin Weiyi looked up at Lu Jing.
“No need, we need to make the most of our time,” Lu Jing replied. He grabbed his Sniper Rifle and scanned the surroundings. Finding no immediate danger, he quickly sprinted toward the summit.
Earlier, to accommodate the others, Lu Jing had been walking up step by step. Now that he was alone, he covered the distance in a few bounds, immediately pulling away from the rest of the group.
“That stamina… I’m jealous,” Orange Hair remarked with a sigh.
Lu Jing dashed upward, and before long, he had vanished from their sight.
Lu Jing was incredibly fast.
As he ran, he kept his eyes peeled for anything they might need.
The mountain wasn’t particularly high, but resources were scarce. Aside from coconut and banana trees, Lu Jing found nothing new by the time he reached the peak in one breath. He didn’t even have the same luck as yesterday; he didn’t see a single living thing.
As for a suitable place to hide, there was absolutely nothing.
Having reached the summit, Lu Jing finally stopped. He panted as he rested, spitting on the ground.
What a godforsaken, trash island.
Even though he hadn’t found what he wanted, Lu Jing didn’t leave immediately. He stood at the peak and began surveying the surroundings. Standing high allowed for a better vantage point, helping him scout for their next destination.
The island wasn’t large.
The outermost ring was beach, followed by greenery further inland, with several connected mountains in the center. The mountain they were currently on was merely one of the lower ones on the outer layer. Deeper toward the center of the island, there were even higher peaks.
From Lu Jing’s perspective, most of the mountains were green, proving that plant life existed. Curiously, however, he didn’t see a single bird. Even where he stood now, it was exceptionally quiet; not a single chirp could be heard.
The animals from yesterday seemed to be the last surviving creatures on this mountain.
Lu Jing was starting to believe what Qi Shuping had said earlier.
The Green Bubbles were carnivorous.
They had already devoured most of the animals on the island, leaving behind only a scattered few.
Thinking of the Green Bubbles, Lu Jing glanced toward the beach again.
It wasn’t just the area where they had been; the entire outer perimeter of the island, every sandy stretch connecting to the sea, had been occupied by the Green Bubbles.
If the color of these Green Bubbles hadn’t been distinct from the local flora, that vast expanse of verdant slime would have been truly difficult to distinguish from the vegetation.
Lu Jing took a few more looks and was preparing to head back to regroup with Qin Weiyi and the others when something caught his eye, causing him to freeze.
He snapped his gaze back toward the shore.
The green mass covering the island’s outer edge was rapidly receding toward the sea, revealing the natural color of the sand.
This was-the Green Bubbles were retreating?
It was exactly as Qi Shuping had described.
Stunned for a moment, Lu Jing quickly opened the System and checked the time.
Exactly 1:00 PM.
Committing the time to memory, Lu Jing hurried off to find Qin Weiyi’s group.
After eating the bananas, the group was no longer plagued by hunger. Having rested, their physical strength had returned, but no one was moving recklessly. They were all sitting on the ground; Qin Nan had even sprawled out completely, eyes closed as he rested.
Jian Fan sat beside him, occasionally scanning their surroundings for any signs of danger.
Lin Junruo and Mu Xin were huddled together, with Lin Junruo quietly asking Mu Xin some questions.
As they were talking, Mu Xin spotted Lu Jing running back down from the mountain.
“Lu Jing is back,” Mu Xin announced.
Her voice immediately snapped everyone to attention. Even Qin Nan sat up, looking in the direction Lu Jing was approaching from.
Lu Jing went straight to Qin Weiyi’s side.
“How was it?” Qin Weiyi asked.
Lu Jing shook his head. “No other supplies, and no good places to settle down. However, the Green Bubbles have retreated. When I was standing at the peak, I saw that the entire outer ring of the island was occupied by them, but they all just pulled back. Oh, and I checked the time-it was exactly one o’clock.”
This was a habit he had developed after spending so much time with Qin Weiyi.
Though he didn’t know if the specific time would be useful, he had checked it just in case Qin Weiyi asked. Clearly, this was experience accumulated from being asked too many questions in the past that he hadn’t been able to answer.
“One o’clock,” Qi Shuping mused, considering the timing.
“Does anyone remember what time the Green Bubbles appeared this morning?” Qi Shuping asked.
Everyone shook their heads.
They had all been busy running for their lives back then; who would have thought to check the time?
“Seven o’clock,” Jian Fan suddenly spoke up while the others were drawing blanks.
Qin Nan looked at Jian Fan in shock. “You helped me grab my Down Jacket, and after all that, you actually remembered to check the time?”
Jian Fan met Qin Nan’s gaze, appearing somewhat puzzled. “Yes?”
Upon hearing that, Qin Nan immediately shut his mouth in silence.
Never mind. The world of a Big Shot was different from that of ordinary people, and so were their thought processes.
“If that’s the case, we should be able to deduce the appearance schedule of the Green Bubbles. They appear at seven in the morning and recede at one in the afternoon, lasting for six hours. Yesterday was our first day on the island, and it was already past one when we arrived, which was right after the Green Bubbles retreated. That’s why we didn’t notice them,” Qi Shuping analyzed.
“So as long as we avoid the beach during that window of time, we’ll be fine?” Lin Junruo asked.
Jian Fan shook his head. “It won’t be that simple.”
