Chapter 206
Chapter 206
This was a different disc.
Naturally, its contents were different as well.
Little Princess spoke with the patient for a while, then smiled at him. “It is exactly midnight. You should now enter a state of sleep.”
“Close your eyes.”
“Relax. Take a deep breath and relax. You can feel yourself growing drowsy. Your eyelids are very heavy. You want to sleep–sleep. Breathe. Relax.”
“…”
Little Princess’s voice was gentle. On the screen, the man who had been sitting upright across from her gradually relaxed. He leaned back against the sofa and slowly fell asleep.
Once she was sure her patient was asleep, Little Princess picked up a tablet and began typing. After recording his condition, she continued.
“A door has appeared before you. You gently push it open.”
“…”
They had claimed they would watch while searching for clues. In reality, everyone’s gaze was now fixed on the projection screen.
They watched for more than half an hour.
At last, Little Princess finished recording everything and snapped her fingers at the patient.
The man’s eyes flew open. He sat upright and stared at Little Princess in disbelief. “I…”
Little Princess smiled warmly. “This treatment session is over.”
“Was that… hypnosis?” Yellow Hair marveled. His imagination immediately ran wild. “Could all of us be hypnotized right now? Is hypnosis the second layer of illusion?”
Qin Weiyi gave him a speechless glance.
“Have you ever seen hypnotized people retain their own consciousness, control their own actions, and communicate freely with everyone around them?” he asked.
Yellow Hair laughed. “Fair point.”
“If it isn’t that, then what purpose do these recordings serve?” Mu Xin asked, puzzled as well.
Qin Weiyi shook his head. “No idea.” Then he looked at Qin Nan. “Why don’t you let your imagination run wild?”
Qin Nan: “…”
“Maybe the backstory is a romance game related to psychology?” Qin Nan offered.
Lin Junruo was the first to agree. “Even a romance game needs character settings. The main story could very well be about a woman treating psychiatric patients, meeting people, and having things happen between them.”
“Then is all of this just background?” Yellow Hair asked doubtfully.
Lin Junruo shook her head. “I don’t know. Maybe the background contains information too.”
That was beyond Lin Junruo’s ability to answer.
She looked at Jian Fan and Qin Weiyi.
Jian Fan had no answer either.
Of course the backstory couldn’t be mere decoration. There had to be clues buried in it. They simply didn’t know where to begin yet.
For now, they could only remember what they had seen and wait to learn whether later clues connected to it.
Jian Fan brought over another disc and started playing it. Then the others dispersed. This time, they really did search while watching.
After making a circuit of the room, they found nothing new.
That made the locked computer considerably more important.
“Anyone want to guess the password?” Qin Weiyi joked once they had regrouped around the desk.
Jian Fan said nothing. He simply bent toward the computer. No one knew what he did, but some kind of code interface appeared. After a few quick operations, the computer rebooted.
It loaded successfully into the desktop.
Everyone: “???”
That worked?
He could simply skip the entire process of finding the password?
Only then did everyone remember that Jian Fan wasn’t merely a Big Shot in the Realm of Death. He worked in computing, and he wasn’t some ordinary IT guy–his field was artificial intelligence research.
A trivial matter like this computer…
Well, then.
Everyone accepted the development remarkably easily.
Once the computer was open, their attention quickly shifted to it.
The tablet was packed with games, but Little Princess’s computer was very clean. It contained only common software, and even the desktop background was uncluttered.
Jian Fan briefly searched through each drive.
Most of the files concerned Little Princess’s work: patient records and case studies, some her own and some from the hospital for research and training. There were also numerous papers and a copy of her résumé.
Everyone took a look.
Good grief. Little Princess was a genuine rich, beautiful heiress. She had studied a wide range of subjects from childhood. Despite being hopelessly romance-brained, she was exceptionally accomplished. She had gained admission to an excellent university through her own ability, then gone abroad to study psychology through a combined master’s and doctoral program. After graduating and returning home, she had taken a position at a highly ranked hospital.
She wasn’t some self-styled counselor who could open an office on a whim. She was a legitimate, licensed psychiatrist.
“Little Princess is pretty impressive,” Qin Nan remarked.
Everyone agreed.
Unfortunately, none of that was useful to them.
Jian Fan had already opened the next folder.
This one contained photographs.
The pictures on the tablet appeared to have been taken earlier in Little Princess’s life. Those on the computer came from after she began working. In most, she wore professional clothes or went shopping and traveling with several female friends.
There were still photographs of her traveling with the same five men.
But…
“Why do I feel like something’s off about Little Princess?” Mu Xin said suddenly. Her brows pinched together in confusion.
Everyone immediately turned to her.
“What’s wrong?” Qin Nan asked.
Mu Xin pursed her lips. “I keep feeling as though Little Princess doesn’t like spending time with them. Look–when she’s with her female friends, she’s obviously happy. But when she’s with these men…” She shook her head.
“Maybe she’s relaxed around other women but shy and reserved around men?” Yellow Hair guessed.
Mu Xin immediately shook her head. “No.”
“No,” Lin Junruo agreed. “Little Princess is the female lead, and these men are supposedly the male leads who romance her. Whether they’re already lovers or about to become lovers, they wouldn’t interact like this. There is no emotion in Little Princess’s eyes. She doesn’t like these five men.”
When it came to matters of the heart, Lin Junruo was by far the most qualified to speak.
Everyone stared at her, stunned.
“Little Princess doesn’t like them?” Qin Nan asked blankly. He pointed at the tablet. “What about the earlier pictures? She didn’t like them then either?”
Lin Junruo hadn’t said anything of the sort when they viewed the tablet.
She shook her head. “No. In the earlier pictures, I could sense that Little Princess was sometimes happy and sometimes shy. There was obvious romantic tension. In these later photos, their poses are more intimate, but I can’t feel any tension at all–none of that sweetness between lovers.”
What?
What was going on?
Everyone looked utterly baffled.
