Chapter 136
Chapter 136
The group arrived outside the dormitory supervisor’s room.
Qin Nan stepped forward and pressed down on the door handle.
Nothing happened.
“It’s locked,” Qin Nan said.
Since this was an escape room, of course it would be one stage after another. Everyone understood that, but trapped in the Realm of Death, it was hard not to feel restless.
“This world might as well change its name to Find the Key,” Yellow Hair said irritably.
First, they had to find the key to the dorm room. Now they had to find the key to the iron gate by the Stairs. And before that, they had to find the key to the dormitory supervisor’s room. On top of all that, there was still the drawer key.
The game had barely started, and they already needed to find four keys.
Who knew how many more would be waiting for them later?
Qin Nan patted Yellow Hair on the shoulder. “Enough. Let’s find the key.”
Jian Fan swept his gaze over their surroundings, then half crouched down.
There was a mat at the entrance to the dormitory supervisor’s room. Jian Fan crouched and lifted it, glanced underneath, found nothing, then stood and walked over to the room’s window.
The student dorm rooms only had a balcony. There were no windows on the wall-facing side. But the dormitory supervisor’s room had a window right beside the door, fitted with burglar bars.
The window was shut. Jian Fan peered through the bars, then reached in and fumbled around briefly before pulling something out.
Yellow Hair was still feeling annoyed.
The place they were in now was just a corridor. There was either floor or wall-where was he supposed to look for a key? He was just about to complain when, after a few quick movements, Jian Fan turned and opened his hand toward them.
Lying in his palm was a key.
“A key?” Yellow Hair was stunned.
Jian Fan gave a faint “Mm,” then stepped forward and used the key to open the door.
Even if this was a game, the clues inside still had to follow some sort of logic.
Jian Fan had not yet figured out the deeper meaning behind the key behind the mirror, but the missing half of the mirror was already enough to catch his attention. As for the key to the dormitory supervisor’s room, that was simple.
Sometimes people kept a spare key nearby.
The window and under the mat were both likely places, and they were also the easiest places to hide a key in this corridor.
The key Jian Fan found was indeed the key to the dormitory supervisor’s room.
Once the door opened, a wave of dust rushed out. Jian Fan was at the very front, so he took the brunt of it.
He frowned, covering his mouth with one hand while waving the other in front of him. Only after the dust had dispersed a little and he had adjusted to the situation did Jian Fan lower his hand.
He did not enter immediately. Instead, he stood in the doorway first, sweeping his gaze around the room.
Unlike the dorm room they had been in earlier, this room, though also coated in a thick layer of dust, showed signs that someone had lived here.
Opposite the door was a balcony, where several pieces of clothing were still hanging. Against the wall on the left was a single bed with a quilt spread over it. In front of the bed stood a table that had been used as a TV stand, with a television sitting on top. Along the wall to their right were a simple double-door cabinet and a desk.
There was a desk lamp on the desk, along with a few miscellaneous items.
After sweeping his eyes over the room and roughly confirming the situation, Jian Fan finally stepped inside.
As soon as Jian Fan entered, the people behind him followed.
“Search,” Jian Fan said.
There was no need for Jian Fan to say more. Everyone understood.
Qin Nan was the first to open the cabinet.
The moment it opened, a foul stench poured out. Qin Nan’s expression changed from the reek. In the end, he pinched his nose with one hand and hurriedly rummaged around inside with the other.
A few pieces of clothing hung inside the wardrobe. Qin Nan gave them a quick once-over; there probably wasn’t a key in there.
At the bottom of the wardrobe lay the corpses of several insects. That foul stench was coming from them.
“What is that smell?” Lu Jing happened to walk past Qin Nan and immediately clapped a hand over his mouth.
Qin Nan looked around a few more times. After confirming there was nothing to find, he quickly shut the door. Once the door cut off that smell, Qin Nan finally felt like he could breathe again.
“There are a few dead bugs in the wardrobe,” Qin Nan explained to Lu Jing.
Lu Jing frowned. “How long would they have to be dead to stink that badly?”
Qin Nan shrugged.
That was one question he couldn’t answer.
Jian Fan was right beside Qin Nan. He paid no attention to their conversation, his gaze instead landing on the desk.
There was a folder on the desk.
Jian Fan picked it up.
Inside were several documents. The one on top was a registration form for the dormitory occupants.
Jian Fan pulled out the personnel information sheet, then placed his fingertip on the page. As his finger moved down, his eyes followed.
He soon found the information he wanted.
Dormitory 6103.
A four-person room. Their basic information was written on it.
Bed No. 1, Wang Yueyue, College of Liberal Arts, Chinese Language Major, junior, contact number 132****1682.
Bed No. 2, Shen Hong, College of Liberal Arts, Chinese Language Major, junior, contact number 132****6515.
Bed No. 3, Zhao Yingguo, College of Liberal Arts, Chinese Language Major, junior, contact number 135****0091.
Bed No. 4, Li Xiting, College of Liberal Arts, Chinese Language Major, junior, contact number 184****8873.
The person who had gotten into trouble should be one of these four, but at the moment, there was no way to tell which one.
After Jian Fan learned what he wanted to know, he switched to another document.
One was a hygiene report for each dormitory. It was useless. Jian Fan glanced at it, set it down, and quickly picked up another.
Leave records for each dormitory.
Jian Fan paused, then opened it. His eyes swept over the page, and a trace of surprise appeared on his face. Then he quickly flipped back several pages, and understanding dawned in his expression.
“What are you looking at?” Lu Jing had already gone to search for other clues. Qin Nan immediately shifted his attention to Jian Fan, and when he saw that Jian Fan was studying something, he leaned in.
Jian Fan did not hide it.
Qin Nan looked at what was written there, puzzled. “What’s so interesting about this? Though, leave records for each dormitory do confirm this is a student dormitory.”
“6103, Zhao Yingguo,” Jian Fan said.
Qin Nan gave a confused “Hm?” and swept his gaze over the page. On the page Jian Fan was looking at, it read: February 25, 2014, 6103, Zhao Yingguo, leave requested, reason: personal affairs.
“What about this Zhao Yingguo?” Qin Nan asked directly.
Jian Fan did not answer. Instead, he flipped back a few more pages and pointed to another spot.
December 14, 2013, 6103, Zhao Yingguo, leave requested, reason: personal affairs.
Then Jian Fan flipped back again.
November 17, 2013, 6103, Zhao Yingguo, leave requested, reason: personal affairs.
October 8, 2013, 6103, Zhao Yingguo, leave requested, reason: personal affairs.
…
Qin Nan looked at the entries Jian Fan had pointed out and finally started to piece it together. “Are you saying that this Zhao Yingguo is the girl who had the accident?”
