Chapter 120
Chapter 120
“Jian Fan mentioned the Five Elements,” Qin Weiyi joined the discussion.
Lin Junruo immediately turned her inquisitive gaze toward Qin Weiyi.
“Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth. The key should lie in the word ‘Fire.’ But…” Qin Weiyi furrowed his brows. He really couldn’t figure out how this ‘Fire’ was supposed to manifest.
Surely it wasn’t the fire they had built themselves?
Qin Weiyi’s gaze actually landed on the campfire in the center of their group.
Not just him, but everyone else looked over as well.
“The Fire should be something that originally existed in the Realm of Death,” Jian Fan pointed out. This fire they had started themselves likely wasn’t it.
Furthermore, this Fire probably wouldn’t be as literal as a simple flame; the Realm of Death wasn’t that kind-hearted.
“My head hurts,” Lu Jing muttered. He flopped down onto the pile of grass and said, “You guys figure out this brain-taxing stuff yourself. I’m going to sleep. Wake me up when you’re done, and I’ll take the night watch.”
With that, Lu Jing pulled his Down Jacket over himself, closed his eyes, and acted as if nothing else concerned him.
Qin Weiyi glanced at him and chuckled.
He turned back to the discussion. “If we can’t think of anything regarding Fire, we should consider what other information we have.”
“Or maybe it really is like a game where we have to win until the end? If that’s the case, firing a gun or a misfire… could that be related to Fire?” Qin Nan once again linked the Deserted Island back to the concept of games.
It was a bit of a stretch, but Jian Fan felt things weren’t that simple.
“Let’s take it one step at a time,” Jian Fan said suddenly.
Since they couldn’t reach a conclusion, this was the only way. The enemies had to be eliminated regardless. They could eliminate the enemies while searching for a way to leave. These two tasks didn’t conflict; they just required more energy.
After Jian Fan finished speaking, he lay down.
He and Qin Nan shared one Down Jacket. Qin Nan had felt awkward about it and offered the jacket to Jian Fan. Jian Fan didn’t stand on ceremony, pulling it over himself as he prepared to sleep.
Qi Shuping let out a yawn. “It’s late. Let’s rest.”
Otherwise, if they overslept tomorrow, the Green Bubbles wouldn’t wait for them.
Qi Shuping also had a Down Jacket. As she pulled it over herself to sleep, she didn’t forget to wave Mu Xin and Lin Junruo over. “I only have this one jacket. You two stay close to me and squeeze in. We’ll have to make do.”
“Thank you, Professor Qi,” Lin Junruo thanked her quickly.
Lin Junruo nimbly lay down on one side of Qi Shuping, while Mu Xin lay on the other. With the Down Jacket draped over Qi Shuping, the two of them each managed to snag a corner.
It was better than nothing.
Xia Zeqin hadn’t said much the whole time. Seeing the discussion end, he lay down on the grass. Then, he reached into thin air and pulled out another Down Jacket.
Qin Nan: “…”
Xia Zeqin really had Points to burn.
But if he wanted to spend them, that was his business.
Watching the man wrap himself in a Down Jacket to sleep, Qin Nan felt a bit envious.
Other people had jackets; what did he have? He could only hug himself and lie down next to Jian Fan.
Just as Qin Nan lay down, Jian Fan-who was clearly facing away from him-suddenly reached out and tugged the Down Jacket slightly toward Qin Nan’s side. This sudden gesture left Qin Nan stunned.
For some reason, Qin Nan suddenly thought of Qian Xing.
Jian Fan and Qian Xing had some history, yet Jian Fan hadn’t shown the slightest ripple of emotion over Qian Xing’s death.
Qin Nan clicked his tongue inwardly. He wondered how Jian Fan would react if something happened to him. When he was trapped by the Green Bubbles earlier, he thought he heard Jian Fan calling his name. If that was true, did that mean he was more important to Jian Fan than Qian Xing was?
This was a pleasant discovery.
Qin Nan curled his lips into a smile, then unceremoniously pulled half of the Down Jacket over himself.
Although it was just a single piece of clothing and couldn’t cover much, wasn’t it quite warm if they huddled together?
Qin Nan felt inexplicably good.
Qin Weiyi looked at the people who had suddenly all but laid down and felt a bit helpless. “Is everyone sleeping?”
Yellow Hair was still sitting on the hay. Hearing Qin Weiyi’s voice, he spoke up, “You go ahead and sleep. I can’t drift off, so I’ll take the first watch. When I get tired, I’ll wake Lu Jing.”
In truth, there was no need for Yellow Hair to call him; if there were real danger, Lu Jing would wake up on his own.
Qin Weiyi smiled at Yellow Hair. “Then I’ll sleep first. If you can’t hold out, call Lu Jing, or have someone else take over for you.”
“Okay,” Yellow Hair replied, his lips twitching into a somewhat strained smile.
Orange Hair’s death still had a significant impact on him. It was likely he wouldn’t be able to sleep well today regardless.
Yellow Hair just sat there, staring blankly at the Fire. He stayed like that for several hours until around one in the morning when Lu Jing woke up on his own; Yellow Hair was still in the same position.
Lu Jing walked over to Yellow Hair and patted his shoulder. “Go to sleep. Otherwise, you won’t have any energy tomorrow. Even if you can’t sleep, just closing your eyes is better than nothing.”
Yellow Hair snapped out of his daze and gave Lu Jing a grateful smile.
He still had to survive, after all.
Despite his lack of sleepiness, Yellow Hair lay down and closed his eyes.
This night remained a safe one.
Early the next morning.
The group began to wake up one after another around six o’clock as scheduled. After packing their belongings and eating a bit, they gathered at the entrance of the Cave, waiting for seven o’clock to arrive.
This time, they didn’t encounter any Rabbit enemies, but their luck wasn’t great either.
The Transmission Medium for the Green Bubbles was Metal-which, in this case, meant stone.
They witnessed green bubbles suddenly sprouting from the cracks in some rocks. Upon touching the stone, they began to expand outward rapidly. Before long, the entrance to the Cave had been completely overtaken by Green Bubbles.
Having identified the Transmission Medium for the Green Bubbles, everyone put their luggage back where it had been.
While there was no immediate danger, they were trapped inside the Cave. Until the Green Bubbles receded, there was nothing they could do.
Lu Jing was remarkably easygoing. Since the surrounding area was covered in Green Bubbles, it was impossible for the Rabbits to appear, which meant they were absolutely safe here. Lu Jing dropped his gear, dove headfirst into the hay, and before long, a thunderous snoring filled the air.
The others: “…”
Lu Jing had slept before, but they hadn’t heard him snore like this. It was obvious that he hadn’t dared to sleep deeply before, but now that he was certain there was no danger, he had finally fallen into a deep slumber.
While the others couldn’t help but chuckle, they also felt a bit apologetic.
After all, they were all beneficiaries of his vigilance.
Aside from Lu Jing, Yellow Hair was also quite tired.
After grieving all night, he had finally recovered somewhat. Since there was nothing to do now, he also lay back down to catch up on some sleep. Aside from the two of them, the others gathered in a circle around the Fire once more.
They couldn’t go out, but they couldn’t just sit idle either. For instance, they could continue the topic from last night.
