Chapter 95

“‘Chicken Dinner’ is a game, and ‘Run the Poison Circle’ is a term from that game,” Qin Weiyi explained with a touch of helplessness.

Only then did Lu Jing realize what they were talking about.

Lu Jing was getting on in years and didn’t seem like the type to enjoy video games, so it wasn’t surprising that he didn’t know. No one thought it was strange, but once Lu Jing understood, another puzzled voice rang out.

“Is this game a bit of a misnomer?” Jian Fan asked.

Qin Nan was stunned and looked at Jian Fan. “You don’t know this game?”

“Why should I?” Jian Fan asked back as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Qin Nan was choked by the question. After thinking about it, Jian Fan clearly looked like a top professional in his field; he was likely the type to bury himself in scientific research, focusing only on his studies while remaining oblivious to the world outside.

“The game’s full name is PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Players compete for resources and fight each other, and the last one alive is the winner. As for running the poison, the game is divided into a Safe Zone and a Poison Circle. The Poison Circle gradually expands over time, and correspondingly, the Safe Zone shrinks. Players need to stay inside the Safe Zone to survive,” Qin Nan explained as simply as possible.

Jian Fan understood and pointed to the Military Box not far away. “Resources?”

Qin Nan nodded.

Qin Weiyi spoke up at this moment. “There are still differences. We can’t view this entirely based on the game’s mechanics.”

Jian Fan looked at Qin Weiyi again.

Since he knew nothing about the game, he could only rely on gathering more information from the others.

“There’s no hunger setting in a Chicken Dinner game. Furthermore, in the game, an Energy Drink restores energy and a Bandage restores health. But do you really think that for us, made of flesh and blood, a Bandage could save our lives if we actually got shot?” Qin Weiyi said.

As he spoke, Yellow Hair’s gaze silently fell upon the Sniper Rifle in Lu Jing’s hands.

It wasn’t just Yellow Hair; others were looking too.

“Alright, stop staring. In the game, if it says you can shoot, you can. But here, even if I give you the guns, are you sure you can use them? Don’t end up getting yourself killed before you even hit anyone else,” Qin Weiyi said.

These words served as a wake-up call.

“And the supplies are different too,” Qin Nan said, his thoughts finally returning to the right track.

Qin Weiyi nodded. “I suspect the theme of this world is still Deserted Island Survival. Regardless of the solution for now, we need to be self-sufficient to survive on this deserted island. However, on top of the island survival, some additional settings have been added. Currently, I’m guessing they’re related to the Chicken Dinner game.”

“Thinking about the game, we can’t rule out the possibility of other NPCs acting as Game Players to fight against us. We don’t know how to use guns, but that doesn’t mean those NPCs won’t.” Speaking to this point, Qin Weiyi’s expression turned heavy.

If that were the case, it would be very bad news indeed.

If others could shoot at them while they couldn’t shoot back, wouldn’t they be forced to do nothing but hide?

“Since there are supply boxes and guns, they must have a use. Your hypothesis is very likely. Besides that, regarding the ‘running the poison’ part, I think that’s also very possible. The problem is, if there really is a Poison Circle, we have no idea where it is. Won’t we just be wandering around blindly?” Qin Nan’s expression was also quite grim.

This situation was far too disadvantageous for them.

“I understand,” Jian Fan suddenly said.

Qin Nan looked at Jian Fan and smiled. “What do you understand?”

“Deserted Island Survival with three additional custom settings,” Jian Fan said succinctly.
“Which three points?” Lin Junruo asked curiously. Between Running the Poison Circle and the presence of other NPC Players, weren’t there only two points?

“Supplies falling from the sky can crush people to death; enemies exist, though whether they have guns is questionable; and Running the Poison Circle is also questionable.” Jian Fan summarized the current situation into a single sentence.

He wasn’t wrong; that was exactly the situation.

However, it wasn’t particularly helpful, as these were mostly things everyone already knew.

“If it’s just a matter of enemies, I might be able to help,” Lu Jing spoke up again.

And why wouldn’t he? Their resident expert, Lu Jing, was a professional.

“As soon as it gets light tomorrow, we’ll look for a place to hide nearby and set up some camouflage. I’ll also set some traps around our base. Since I have a gun now, I can handle it as long as the enemy doesn’t have too many people.” Lu Jing was quite confident in this regard.

Except for Yellow Hair and Orange Hair, everyone present knew that Lu Jing was someone who had fought a Vampire, so they naturally didn’t doubt his abilities.

“However, I’m helpless when it comes to the Poison Circle,” Lu Jing said with some difficulty.

Jian Fan remained calm. “The shrinking of the Poison Circle can’t rely solely on luck. There must be something we haven’t discovered yet.”

Qi Shuping, who had been silent until now, finally spoke. “If we follow the logic of a Poison Circle, our active area will be strictly limited by the Realm of Death. As the Poison Circle shrinks, if we don’t leave, death is only a matter of time.”

“Maybe if we kill all the other Players and become the final winners, we can leave?” Orange Hair suggested a possibility.

Qi Shuping smiled and shook her head. “I don’t think so. While that is a possibility, nothing has ever told us that this is the ‘Chicken Dinner’ game you’re talking about. I believe the focus of this world is Deserted Island Survival. If that’s the case, the only way to be rescued is to leave the deserted island.”

Leave the deserted island?

Qin Nan’s gaze fell on the sea behind them.

The only way to leave the island seemed to be that vast expanse of water. Were they supposed to build their own boat? Not only did they lack supplies, but even if they could build one, they would likely be capsized and drowned in a sea that stretched as far as the eye could see.

“Have you ever considered that if a Poison Circle exists, once the coastal area enters the circle, we’ll lose any chance of leaving the island? At that point, all we can do is struggle to survive a bit longer before the Poison Circle covers the entire island,” Qi Shuping said seriously.

Everyone present fell silent.

What Orange Hair said was possible, and what Qi Shuping said was also possible. But if Qi Shuping’s hypothesis was correct, it meant they couldn’t leave the shore-or they had to find a way to leave before the Poison Circle reached this area.

Seeing the atmosphere turn somber, Qin Nan laughed. “Let’s not get too depressed. We’ve only seen one supply crate so far. All this talk about ‘Chicken Dinner’ is just our own wild speculation. Maybe it doesn’t even exist? For now, we have a gun, and we have tents, right? That’s a good thing for us.”

Jian Fan gave a brief “Mm” and then said, “Go get the tents.”

Qin Nan immediately responded.

They didn’t know how many tents there were, so it was first come, first served.

Rather than standing around overthinking things, it was better to do something useful first.
