Chapter 118
Chapter 118
A Military Box fell from the sky.
It landed right in front of Lu Jing.
The Military Box slammed into a rock with a heavy thud. Being the closest, Lu Jing’s ears took the brunt of the impact.
He rubbed his ears and turned to look at Qin Nan. “Next time you say something like that, add a disclaimer. If I hadn’t stopped, I would’ve been crushed to death.”
Qin Nan: “…”
Who would have thought the Airdrop would suddenly listen to him so well?
However, Qin Nan quickly grew excited and urged Lu Jing, “Hurry up. A sound that loud will probably alert nearby enemies. We should grab the stuff and get out of here as soon as possible.”
It would be even better if there was water.
After walking for so long and eating those dry Compressed Biscuits, he was incredibly thirsty.
Lu Jing, of course, understood.
He gave a quick acknowledgement, slung his Sniper Rifle over his shoulder, and began to open the box.
Their luck wasn’t as good as last time. There wasn’t a single Tent or Military Overcoat in the entire Military Box; it was mostly guns and ammunition. However, the water Qin Nan wanted was there-a case of twelve bottles. Aside from that, there were two backpacks.
Lu Jing took one to hold his and Qin Weiyi’s things, then tossed the other to Yellow Hair.
“One bottle of water for everyone. There are three extra, so Mu Xin, Jian Fan, and Qin Nan get an extra bottle each. Any objections?” Lu Jing maintained his usual way of doing things; even as he spoke, his hands were already efficiently distributing the supplies.
After finishing the distribution, Lu Jing glanced at Qi Shuping and Lin Junruo. “The next time we find backpacks, they’ll go straight to you two.”
No one had any complaints.
After getting his water, Qin Nan quickly took a few gulps, feeling like he had instantly come back to life.
Lu Jing gathered all the compatible ammunition and dumped it into his backpack. Having a bag made it much easier for him to store bullets. Beyond that, Lu Jing destroyed all the remaining guns in the Military Box.
Most of the people in their group didn’t know how to use guns, making them more of a burden than an asset. However, they couldn’t leave them for the Rabbits either-those Rabbits knew how to shoot.
Once Lu Jing finished, the group hurried away from the area.
Not long after they left, a group of Rabbits did indeed appear near the Military Box. Seeing the destroyed guns, several Rabbits huddled together, chattering for a long time about who knows what.
Qin Nan and the others continued their ascent.
The Airdrop had just happened, so there were bound to be other Supply Boxes. Surely there wouldn’t be just one?
Qin Nan hoped their luck would hold out and they would find another one, and that the Military Box would happen to contain the Tent they needed.
However, things didn’t always go as smoothly as he wished.
Fortunately, while they didn’t find another Airdrop box, they did find a good place to settle down.
They found a hidden Cave near the mountainside.
Wild grass grew thick outside the Cave, perfectly concealing the entrance. If Lu Jing hadn’t been so sharp-eyed and stepped forward to pull the grass aside, they really wouldn’t have noticed such a good resting spot.
After clearing the grass, Lu Jing peered inside.
The interior of the Cave was pitch black; nothing could be seen.
“Let’s rest here for a bit. I’ll get a Fire going and head in to scout the situation,” Lu Jing said.
No one objected.
By now, everyone was numb to Lu Jing’s skill at starting a Fire by Friction. They watched as he produced a Fire in just a few movements. He then gathered some branches, tied them together, and lit them to create a simple torch.
Before entering the Cave, Lu Jing asked Qin Weiyi for the Military Knife again.
If they didn’t encounter any enemies, the Military Knife was clearly the more suitable weapon. Firing a gun recklessly would only draw more enemies to their position.
With a torch in one hand and the Military Knife in the other, and the Sniper Rifle slung across his back, Lu Jing entered the Cave with extreme caution.
It was pitch black inside. Lu Jing held the torch aloft, sweeping the light across the interior bit by bit to get a clear view of the surroundings.
While the exterior was all rock, the inner walls were naturally stone as well, but the floor was covered in a layer of soil. The interior was mostly empty, save for some wild grass, a few scattered rocks, and several puddles of water. There was nothing else of note.
Due to the presence of the Green Bubbles, there were no snakes, rats, or insects in the Cave.
Furthermore, the Cave was quite spacious, more than enough to accommodate all nine of them. Even setting up five or six Tents inside wouldn’t be a problem-though they no longer had any Tents.
It was a decent place to settle down.
Once Lu Jing confirmed there was no danger, he turned back and exited the Cave.
“Everything looks fine inside. We’ll stay here for today. Everyone, go nearby and gather some grass, branches, and stones. It’s about that time,” Lu Jing said.
Upon hearing this, the others nodded and immediately sprang into action.
They still had some luggage, which was too cumbersome to carry while working. Since it was still dark inside the Cave, they decided to have Qi Shuping and Qin Weiyi stay behind to guard the bags at the entrance. The rest of them paired up to forage for supplies in the vicinity.
Lu Jing was the exception; he went alone.
Assigning him a teammate would only hinder his progress.
Once the group had divided the tasks, they each set about their work.
After gathering enough supplies, Lu Jing built two campfires in the middle of the Cave and lit the Fire, keeping a pile of spare branches nearby. Lin Junruo and Mu Xin took charge of spreading the gathered grass to create two large communal sleeping mats.
One side for the men, one side for the women.
By the time they finished, night had fallen.
Lu Jing went to the Cave entrance and pulled some wild grass over to block the opening.
Qin Nan stretched his limbs and flopped onto the grass pile, letting out a long sigh of relief. “Comfortable.”
The island was cold at night, but inside the Cave with the Fire burning, the temperature was significantly higher. This way, they could just barely manage even without Tents or Down Jackets.
“Your standards are that low?” Qin Weiyi teased with a smile.
Qin Nan sat up from the grass. “Isn’t it all about the comparison? This Cave is a great find.”
The inside of the Cave was soil, while the outside was rock. This meant the location featured two different types of Transmission Medium, so they didn’t have to worry about a sudden attack from the Green Bubbles. Moreover, the Cave was well-hidden; even if they were trapped inside, they wouldn’t be in immediate danger as long as they waited for the Green Bubbles to recede.
The only disadvantageous possibility was if the Transmission Medium for the Green Bubbles turned out to be soil, and they were met by enemies the moment they stepped out of the Cave.
Qin Nan didn’t want to dwell on that possibility.
Mu Xin was also in a good mood.
“This Cave is saving us a lot of Points,” Mu Xin noted.
Their Tents had all been lost. Without this Cave, they would have clearly needed to exchange for more Tents. Now, it seemed they could make do by scraping by like this.
