Chapter 172
Chapter 172
“The sixth floor isn’t safe.” Shi Chen didn’t dwell too much on the meaning behind the Hair Ribbon. There was still a difficult problem right in front of them.
How were they supposed to get up to the sixth floor?
Zhao Yingguo was on the sixth floor. If they ran into her, they were dead for sure.
“Zhao Yingguo can’t see. If we’re careful and don’t make any noise, maybe… there’s a chance?” Yellow Hair cautiously offered an idea.
In truth, he didn’t need anyone else to answer. Yellow Hair already knew the answer himself.
If they made no sound and didn’t alert Zhao Yingguo, then of course they would be safe. But could they really avoid making even the slightest noise? Forget everything else-even opening a door made the sound of a door opening.
Seeing everyone fall silent, Yellow Hair sighed as well.
They had to go back to the sixth floor. So the question now was how they would get there, how they would avoid Zhao Yingguo, and how they would return to Dormitory 6103 to find the final clue they needed.
Yellow Hair felt a headache coming on.
He sat down off to the side and said, “Just thinking about it makes my head hurt. I can’t figure this out, so you guys do your best.”
“Create a diversion,” Jian Fan said after thinking it over. In the end, he still voiced his plan.
Qin Weiyi frowned. “Like before?”
Jian Fan nodded. “More or less.”
“It’s risky,” Qin Weiyi replied at once.
Jian Fan did not deny it. “Mm. It’s a last resort.”
But they didn’t exactly have a first-rate option, either.
Qin Weiyi had to admit that what Jian Fan suggested was very likely their only method. But once they used it, Qin Weiyi turned and glanced at Lu Jing.
The person doing it would definitely be Lu Jing. If anything went wrong, Lu Jing would be in danger.
This time, it wasn’t the Vampire World, where Lu Jing could still rely on force to fight back. Here, Zhao Yingguo was outright invincible. Forget fighting her-Lu Jing basically had no way to resist at all.
Although Lu Jing was still somewhat lost, the moment Qin Weiyi looked at him, he understood what Qin Weiyi was worried about.
“It’s fine. I’ll be careful,” Lu Jing said.
Qin Weiyi’s expression darkened. “Careful how?”
Lu Jing scratched his head, not knowing how to answer.
Still, after Lu Jing’s little blunder, much of the worry in Qin Weiyi’s heart faded. He nodded and said, “Do it your way.”
Jian Fan’s method was simple.
First, he had everyone scavenge around the dormitory for small, hard objects, then handed all of them to Lu Jing.
“The moment you see Zhao Yingguo, throw them in the opposite direction. The louder the noise, the better,” Jian Fan instructed Lu Jing before they went up to the sixth floor.
With a heavy bag of odds and ends on his back, Lu Jing nodded. “Got it. Understood.”
Qin Weiyi looked at this simple-minded guy and felt helpless.
Among their group, Lu Jing was the strongest, so naturally, he could throw things the farthest and lure Zhao Yingguo farther away from them. Relatively speaking, that would better ensure their safety.
Once they had finished preparing, the group began heading toward the sixth floor.
They moved with extreme caution, terrified of making even the slightest sound. When they reached the entrance to the sixth floor, Jian Fan took out the key to unlock it. Everyone held their breath again, afraid that even the sound of the lock opening would draw Zhao Yingguo over.
Their gazes shifted from Jian Fan’s hand to the corridor and back again.
Fortunately, by the time Jian Fan removed the lock and pushed open the iron gate, Zhao Yingguo still had not appeared.
Everyone let out a breath of relief.
The group began moving inside cautiously. But just as Lu Jing stepped through the iron gate, his clothes caught on it for a moment. Normally, that wouldn’t have made any sound. The problem was that Lu Jing currently had quite a few little objects hidden in his clothes.
And when those things hit the iron gate…
Bang.
The sound wasn’t particularly loud, but it scared everyone half to death. They all stopped in their tracks, tensing as if facing a mortal enemy.
They didn’t dare run. If they ran, they might make even more noise and lure out Zhao Yingguo when she hadn’t been drawn over in the first place. But if they stayed where they were, they were afraid Zhao Yingguo would appear here in the next second.
Lu Jing was a little annoyed with himself too.
But this wasn’t the time to apologize. He had already grabbed a handful of things from his clothes. The moment Zhao Yingguo appeared, he would start throwing them.
Of course, he couldn’t throw anything yet. That would only draw her out completely.
Time ticked by, second by second.
Then, in the empty corridor, a cloud of Red Mist suddenly began to spread. The Red Mist quickly gathered into a mass, and finally, Zhao Yingguo’s body took shape.
Everyone had the feeling that, sure enough, this was exactly what they had expected.
The moment Lu Jing saw her, he didn’t need Jian Fan or the others to remind him. He immediately threw the things in his hand toward the corridor ahead.
The objects hit the floor with a series of clattering sounds. The instant the noise fell, Zhao Yingguo reacted. She took a few steps forward, then almost instantly teleported to the spot where the objects had landed.
That speed…
It was as if everyone’s throat had been seized. Not a single sound came out.
Zhao Yingguo tilted her head.
She seemed a little puzzled as to why there had been a sound, but no one was nearby. Soon, however, she started to laugh. “You’re being naughty. Bullying me because I can’t see.”
Yellow Hair rolled his eyes inwardly.
He wanted to say she was the one bullying a group of ordinary people like them.
Zhao Yingguo lingered where she was for a while. When she presumably found nothing, she casually chose a direction and started walking. Unfortunately, the direction she chose happened to be exactly where their group was.
Fuck.
Qin Nan cursed inwardly. What kind of rotten luck was this?
Jian Fan frowned as well, but he made a decision quickly.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. They were already face-to-face with Zhao Yingguo. If they were overly cautious now, not only would they fail to break the deadlock, they would also throw their lives away for nothing.
And so-
Jian Fan suddenly took a few steps forward.
Everyone froze.
Jian Fan walked very carefully, doing his best not to make a sound. Zhao Yingguo, meanwhile, seemed not to notice that her prey was walking toward her.
Qin Nan was the first to follow.
Seeing this, Mu Xin gritted her teeth and followed too. After her came Mu Xin, and after that, Qin Weiyi and Lu Jing.
In the end, under Jian Fan’s lead, the group took the risk and walked toward Zhao Yingguo.
Just as they were about to run into Zhao Yingguo, Jian Fan suddenly stopped. Then he leaned his whole body against the wall beside him, pressing himself tightly to it, and pointed for Lu Jing in the direction ahead of Zhao Yingguo.
Lu Jing immediately understood.
He grabbed another handful and flung it hard forward.
The sound rang out. A smile appeared on Zhao Yingguo’s face, and she quickly headed toward the front.
Seeing this, Jian Fan let out a breath of relief and continued forward. Then he waved at Lu Jing again. As soon as Jian Fan signaled, Lu Jing kept throwing things ahead.
Zhao Yingguo’s attention was drawn away by the sounds. She had no idea that her prey was already about to slip away right under her nose.
The group arrived at Dormitory 6103.
Jian Fan took out the key. Under Lu Jing’s cover, he opened the door. Then the group carefully entered the dormitory. At the same time the door closed, Lu Jing threw something forward one last time.
The sound of it hitting the floor covered up the sound of the door closing.
Zhao Yingguo did not notice.
