Chapter 139
Chapter 139
“Why would it be impossible?” Jian Fan asked in return.
It was possible.
Once Jian Fan brought it up, Qin Weiyi thought the matter over again and realized that it really was highly possible.
It wasn’t that the dorm supervisor hadn’t had the ability to help Zhao Yingguo. It was that the dorm supervisor had never wanted to help her in the first place. She had played the role of Zhao Yingguo’s savior, reaching out a hand when Zhao Yingguo was being bullied, making Zhao Yingguo trust her and feel grateful to her. But little did Zhao Yingguo know, that might have been another dead end altogether.
The clues they had so far weren’t enough to prove it, but Qin Weiyi felt that the possibility was extremely high.
“On the calendar, October 21 was circled,” Qin Weiyi brought up again.
Jian Fan looked at Qin Weiyi.
Qin Weiyi tugged at the corner of his mouth. “There has to be something wrong with that day. But I don’t know whether the two years, ’14 and ’21, have some other meaning.”
Jian Fan didn’t answer him. Instead, he turned around and once again pulled out the things he had looked through earlier.
First was the diary.
October 21, 2013.
Jian Fan quickly flipped to the entry for the 20th. There was content on the 21st as well, but only a few sparse lines. It said that the weather had been nice that day and recorded a few trivial matters. After that, there were signs of pages having been torn out. By the time there was another entry, it was already the 23rd.
Jian Fan had always assumed the torn-out part was the entry for the 22nd, but now…
What had been torn out was probably the entries for both the 21st and the 22nd. It was just that the earlier content from the 21st had nothing to do with Zhao Yingguo, so it had been left behind.
After Jian Fan put down the diary, he pulled up the leave records again.
On October 21, 2013, two people had asked for leave. One had taken three days of sick leave. The other was Zhao Yingguo.
On October 21, 2013, Zhao Yingguo had requested leave. Reason: personal leave.
What had happened that day? And when Zhao Yingguo had her accident, there had still been half a year before that date in 2014. So why had it been circled?
Jian Fan couldn’t figure it out.
Or rather, they still had too little information in their hands.
“I didn’t find anything on my end. Did any of you find the password?” Wen Xi suddenly asked after making a round of the room.
Lin Junruo was the first to stop what she was doing. She shook her head. “I didn’t find any useful clues.” As she spoke, she looked toward Mu Xin. “Mu Xin, what about you?”
Mu Xin stopped moving.
She was on the balcony at the moment.
A few pieces of clothing were hanging there. Aside from that, there was a broom, a dustpan, and several potted plants.
The plants were extremely tenacious. Even after going so long without anyone caring for them, they had still struggled to absorb nutrients. By now, they had already grown out of their pots and twined around the balcony railing.
The situation on the balcony could more or less be taken in at a glance.
Mu Xin had already moved the pots earlier, but she hadn’t found anything.
By all logic, there shouldn’t have been any other clues on the balcony.
But…
Mu Xin stared at the flowerpots for a long time. In the end, she glanced around, took down one of the pieces of clothing hanging on the balcony, then grabbed a corner of it and wiped it across the soil in the pot.
When she lifted the clothing again, aside from the dirt staining it, there was also an especially vivid streak of blood.
The potted plants had been able to grow so quickly not because they had been left to grow freely, but because they had been watered with blood.
And the blood still hadn’t dried even now. In other words, it had probably been poured there not long ago.
How could that be?
Who had watered them with blood? And where had the blood come from?
Mu Xin’s mind was flooded with questions. Before she could think them through, she suddenly heard Lin Junruo call out to her.
Mu Xin stood up and looked toward the people inside. She didn’t answer Lin Junruo directly. Instead, after her gaze lingered on Lin Junruo for an instant, it fell on Jian Fan and Qin Nan.
“There’s blood on the flowerpot. It must have happened not long ago,” Mu Xin said.
Jian Fan’s thoughts stuttered to a halt, and he looked up.
The red liquid in Dormitory 6103 that was suspected to be blood. The bloodstains that had only just appeared in the dormitory supervisor’s room…
“There’s someone else here,” Jian Fan said, his expression turning grave.
Qin Nan’s brows had been furrowed the entire time as well.
The red liquid in the water tank was probably blood too. If it had been left behind when the incident happened all those years ago, then from ’14 to now, several years had already passed. How could it possibly still look the way it did now? That meant the blood in the water tank had been put there recently-very possibly right before they arrived. And the blood Mu Xin found in the flowerpot should have appeared around the same time.
For someone to do all that meant there had to be another person on this floor, someone they didn’t know about. An NPC belonging to this world.
And this NPC… was clearly standing against them.
Worse, it probably wouldn’t be easy to deal with.
That made their situation even more precarious.
Jian Fan couldn’t work out many details, so he simply headed toward the balcony. He wanted to take a look for himself and see if there were any other clues.
The moment Jian Fan moved, Qin Nan naturally followed.
The two of them entered the balcony one after the other.
Qin Weiyi followed as well.
Only a glass door separated the balcony from the room.
Qin Weiyi had just reached the doorway and hadn’t even had time to step out onto the balcony when a strange sound suddenly rang out inside the room.
Glug, glug.
It sounded like water bubbling upward, or like water boiling, except the noise was louder and more urgent. And as it grew louder and louder, there seemed to be faint sobs mixed in with it.
Lin Junruo felt her scalp prickle just listening to it, and she shuddered.
Mu Xin, Jian Fan, and Qin Nan were all on the balcony. Lin Junruo was still some distance from them. Qin Weiyi had already reached the balcony entrance, with Lu Jing following close behind him. Inside the room, near her, were Liu Ji and his three companions, along with Yellow Hair and Xia Zeqin.
Lin Junruo silently edged a little closer to Yellow Hair.
“What is that sound?” Yellow Hair asked.
No one could answer him.
But as soon as his words fell, another laugh rang out from within that spine-chilling sound. And that laugh…
Qin Weiyi’s entire expression darkened.
It was the laughter from the MP3 Player.
Before Qin Weiyi could think any further, Lu Jing’s face suddenly changed. “Run!”
Lu Jing grabbed Qin Weiyi. He had originally intended to run outside, but seeing that it was already too late, he made a split-second decision and shoved Qin Weiyi straight out onto the balcony. Then he followed after him. The instant he stepped onto the balcony, he spun around neatly and shut the balcony door with a sharp smack.
And at the very moment the door closed, something-no one knew what it was, something like a mass of red-charged out of the bathroom and slammed straight into the balcony door.
The balcony door was made of glass.
The five people on the balcony could all see clearly what had hurled itself at them.
It was an utterly terrifying Blood-soaked Figure.
Its face was unrecognizable, the whole thing looking as if it had been scorched black, yet blood was continuously seeping out from its features. Its entire face looked as though it had been soaked in bloody water. But that wasn’t the most terrifying part. The most terrifying part was its eyes.
No.
It had no eyes at all.
There were only two black pits left behind, horrifying enough to make anyone’s skin crawl.
