Chapter 243
Chapter 243
Yellow Hair had been led completely astray by Lin Junruo.
What had they been discussing at the beginning?
Hadn’t it been the joy of shipping couples?
“Besides those two, are there any others?” Yellow Hair continued asking.
He was curious what other bizarre pairings Lin Junruo could invent.
Lin Junruo immediately searched her mind. “I don’t have especially good ideas for the rest, but if we absolutely have to pair people, there are possibilities. Take you and me, for example.”
Yellow Hair: “???”
What kind of dangerous statement was that?
“Cinderella and a Dwarf could work, couldn’t they? If a Dwarf can save Snow White, why can’t he save Cinderella? Of course, I don’t think it’s as compelling as the first two pairings.”
Yellow Hair: “…”
Yellow Hair did not want to speak.
Lin Junruo continued frantically assembling couples in her mind. “Actually, someone has probably shipped a Dwarf with Snow White too.”
Yellow Hair: “???”
Never mind. He did not dare offend Jian Fan.
“Then there’s Sleeping Beauty… Who could Sleeping Beauty be paired with? The Frog Prince? Ah, no, no. I’ve disgusted myself.” Lin Junruo talked cheerfully to herself.
Yellow Hair’s face had gone entirely numb.
After considering every possibility, Lin Junruo still found her first two pairings the most interesting. Revisiting the plots she had imagined, she decided she might actually possess a talent for writing novels.
The thought of novels made her expression freeze. Only then did she realize how far off topic they had wandered again.
“Ahem.” Lin Junruo cleared her throat and returned to the matter at hand. “In short, something this unknown contains too many possibilities. We still don’t understand this world.”
“Then our first priority is determining which plot we’re in. Only after understanding how it develops can we make further deductions,” Yellow Hair said, finally dragging his own thoughts back from their wildly diverted path.
Lin Junruo nodded.
After thinking, she added, “These are only some immature theories of mine. They might not be accurate.”
“Immature?” Yellow Hair tugged at the corner of his mouth. “They seem fairly complete.”
She had not only assembled the couples but already devised their general plots.
Lin Junruo smiled sheepishly.
The two walked through the crowd as they spoke.
They still devoted some attention to nearby conversations.
They too heard information about the host of the ball.
“That’s right. The host of this ball truly is Your Highness.”
Yellow Hair and Lin Junruo heard someone speaking.
Since it concerned the host, they instinctively stopped and listened closely.
“It really is Your Highness?” someone asked in surprise. “Why did he arrange this ball?”
“To find a girl who ran away.”
“A girl who ran away? Good heavens, is there actually someone unwilling to remain with Your Highness?”
“Who knows? But I hear Your Highness isn’t searching for her because he wants to marry her and make her his Princess Consort.”
“Then why? Is she his enemy?”
“I don’t know. But Your Highness seems certain the girl he seeks is at this ball. He will appear here precisely at nine. You’ll know soon enough.”
Lin Junruo and Yellow Hair immediately exchanged looks.
The nearby conversation soon moved on to another subject.
Only after walking farther away did the two speak quietly.
“Fairy tales don’t involve Princes searching for enemies. This must be some derivative story. Your Highness may have turned love into hatred or become a villain outright. We just don’t know which story this Prince belongs to.”
Lin Junruo sighed. “Fairy tales are such a headache. Everyone is just a Prince or princess, with no proper way to distinguish them.”
“Since he’ll appear at nine, we can wait and see. Any clue is still good news,” Yellow Hair said more optimistically.
Lin Junruo nodded.
Then she checked the time.
It was nearly eight fifty.
“Let’s keep searching for a little longer, then return and meet Qin Nan’s group,” Lin Junruo said.
Yellow Hair naturally agreed.
The two immediately resumed their work.
And Fang Kang?
He was still climbing with all his might.
He climbed and climbed.
The glass was far too slippery. Fang Kang would laboriously gain some distance, then slide partway down. He would struggle upward again, only to slip once more…
He worked extremely hard and suffered greatly, yet still had not reached the top.
Fang Kang could only hold his breath and continue.
Shi Chen was also trying hard to find clues.
But his condition was terrible.
Although he had spent Points to remain awake, the side effects were overwhelming. He could not stop yawning.
At first, he tried conversing with people, but his constant yawns quickly made the other party’s face turn cold. “Are you looking down on me?”
Shi Chen: “???”
What?
“You are extraordinarily rude,” the person accused. Then they declared, “I refuse to speak with you,” and turned away.
Shi Chen remained baffled.
He could only seek another person.
After several repetitions, Shi Chen finally understood the problem and grew worried.
He did not want to yawn, but he could not stop. What was he supposed to do?
He had struggled for ages without finding the slightest clue. Worse, Shi Chen realized his drowsiness was intensifying to the point that it began affecting his consciousness.
His mind now seemed divided between two extremes.
One voice urged him to hurry and find a way out. The other beckoned him into a beautiful sleep. The latter temptation grew stronger by the moment and was beginning to overwhelm the former.
That was dangerous.
Shi Chen could not allow his condition to deteriorate further.
He opened the Points Mall and searched for something useful.
There was nothing.
Not a single item could solve his problem. With no alternative, Shi Chen gritted his teeth to preserve his awareness.
He went to the buffet, picked up a glass of champagne, and seemingly by accident smashed it on the floor.
Champagne spilled everywhere as the glass shattered.
Servants quickly noticed and came to clean it up. Taking advantage of that brief distraction, Shi Chen secretly hid a shard.
Once he reached a corner, he gritted his teeth and drove the glass directly into his palm.
Pain brought his awareness snapping back for an instant.
It felt like abruptly waking from sleep.
But the relief did not last.
