Chapter 205
Chapter 205
After scanning the shelves, Qin Weiyi’s gaze settled on the desk.
It was a long table set between the two bookcases. Snacks, a computer, and a disorderly spread of books and documents covered its surface, while a floor-to-ceiling window occupied the wall opposite.
Qin Weiyi walked over.
He switched on the computer, then idly picked up one of the books while he waited for it to boot.
Despite the shelves full of romance novels, every open book on the desk concerned psychology. Qin Weiyi leafed through a few pages, and the material looked quite professional.
Before he could read much, the computer finished booting.
Instead of loading the desktop, however, it prompted him for a password.
Qin Weiyi called across the room, “Little Princess’s computer is password-protected.”
Qin Nan was in the lounge area.
A white carpet covered the corner, where a row of pale-purple sofas sat amid numerous stuffed toys. Beside the sofas stood a snack cabinet and a magazine rack, while a CD player rested on a nearby table.
Qin Nan was sorting through the discs. Hearing Qin Weiyi, he immediately flashed him an okay sign.
Then he pulled out the tablet.
He saw the messages Little Princess had sent earlier, ignored them, and typed his own question.
“Hey, gorgeous, what’s the password to your computer?”
Her reply came almost instantly.
Question marks filled nearly the entire screen.
“Are you out of your mind? You’re actually asking me that?”
“Do you have even the slightest awareness that you’re a Player?”
“I don’t know! I don’t know! I don’t know! Stop asking me questions!”
Qin Nan rubbed his nose sheepishly as he read the messages, then called back to Qin Weiyi, “She won’t tell me.”
Qin Weiyi wasn’t disappointed.
Without the password, they could only set the computer aside, search for other clues, and keep an eye out for something that might reveal it.
His attention returned to the books on the desk.
Psychology was outside Qin Weiyi’s area of expertise. A few pages told him nothing, so he turned to the documents instead.
He picked one up at random.
To his surprise, it contained the records of a psychiatric patient.
Between the large collection of patient files and the psychology books on the desk, an idea had already formed in Qin Weiyi’s mind.
Someone in this household was probably a psychologist or psychiatrist.
And the third floor was clearly Little Princess’s domain, which meant Little Princess herself might be the psychiatrist.
Huh.
That was unexpected.
An innocent young woman who devoured romance novels, played dating games, and loved fantasies and daydreams had chosen a career in mental health.
After surveying the desk, Qin Weiyi turned back to the bookshelves.
They were meticulously categorized. Romance novels occupied a vast portion, including quite a few traditional-character editions. The next-largest category consisted of books related to psychology.
Some were popular science references, while others were novels with psychological themes, such as multiple personality disorder.
Beyond those two categories were all manner of highly specialized books.
Standing before shelves filled with such wildly different material, Qin Weiyi frowned in thought.
Little Princess’s reading tastes truly ran from one extreme to the other.
While Qin Weiyi searched, the others were naturally busy as well.
After reporting back to Qin Weiyi, Qin Nan put away the tablet and began looking for clues nearby.
He flipped through the contents of the magazine rack.
Those too were clearly sorted.
Half were romance fiction. Of the remaining half, roughly three quarters were psychology magazines, with the small remainder covering travel and economics.
The reading material of a romance-obsessed young woman sat side by side with that of a hard-driving career woman.
Interesting.
Qin Nan laughed softly.
Then he moved to the CD rack.
It held rows of pristine discs. Each bore only a label with a string of numbers written on it.
Qin Nan selected one at random, considered it, then took it to the CD player and inserted it.
The machine whirred to life. Before long, a woman’s voice filled the room.
That voice… wasn’t it Little Princess’s serious voice?
The CD player offered sound but no image, so Qin Nan had no idea what he was listening to. He continued, hoping the contents would make the situation clear.
“Hello. Are you ready to begin?” the woman asked.
A husky, deep male voice answered, “Yes.”
“I will now attempt to awaken your alter personality. Mr. Shen, I need you to relax completely and trust me.”
The man seemed to hesitate. Only after a long silence did he answer, “All right.”
“Zhou Qing, wake after I call your name three times.”
“Zhou Qing.”
“Zhou Qing.”
The woman softly spoke the name. Silence followed, and only after quite some time came a faint rustle, like clothing being straightened.
“Good evening, Dr. Jian.” It was the same man’s voice, but the earlier husky gravity had vanished, replaced by a lively note.
The woman laughed too. “Good evening. How have the last few days been?”
“…”
As the CD played, the others gathered around.
This was plainly a recording of a therapy session, and the patient had multiple personality disorder.
“Is that Little Princess?” Yellow Hair asked. If Qin Nan recognized the voice, naturally the others did too.
Yellow Hair found it hard to believe. “I never expected Little Princess to have such a high-powered career.”
Qin Weiyi picked up the explanation. “About half the books on the shelves are related to psychology, and there are case files on the desk. We can confirm that Little Princess works as a psychiatrist.”
The recording continued as they talked.
“These should all be recordings of patient treatment sessions. Who knows whether any of them contain clues,” Qin Nan said.
Jian Fan remained calm.
“Listen while you search,” he said.
No one objected.
However–
Jian Fan stopped the CD player, took the disc, and headed toward the home theater area.
There was video equipment over there.
If they could see the footage, there was no reason to settle for sound alone.
Jian Fan inserted the disc. An image soon appeared on the projection screen.
It showed a warmly decorated office. A woman with her hair pinned up, dressed in a suit and skirt, sat on a sofa opposite a man.
They didn’t recognize the man, but the woman was unmistakably the girl from the photographs–Little Princess herself.
