Chapter 363
Chapter 363
Shit!
Qin Weiyi watched the seven guests race toward him. Their bodies were clearly stiff, yet they moved astonishingly fast.
“Lu Jing!” He could only shout for his formidable bodyguard. At the same time, he hurled the video camera at them, then turned and ran toward Lu Jing’s location.
Lu Jing could see all the footage.
The moment the guests’ bodies stiffened, he had noticed something wrong. Worried about Qin Weiyi, he had already run out. Now, hearing Qin Weiyi call his name, he immediately rushed toward the sound.
The two soon met up.
At the same time, the seven rigid NPCs charged after them. Three wore the faces of Jian Fan and the others.
Lu Jing reacted swiftly, pulling Qin Weiyi aside and kicking the leading NPC away. When it came to “Jian Fan” and the other two, however, he hesitated.
Was that really not Jian Fan?
But the hesitation lasted only an instant.
Soon, Lu Jing attacked them without restraint.
The seven NPCs were clearly not very strong. Faced with Lu Jing’s fighting ability, they were beaten back for the moment.
But he could not kill them either.
“Go!” Qin Weiyi made the decision at once.
Lu Jing hoisted him over his shoulder and immediately took off.
Meanwhile, inside the mourning hall…
The camera suddenly projected a screen of light.
At present, it displayed only a time.
A five-minute countdown.
“What’s this supposed to mean?” Looking at it, Qin Nan began to worry.
“A countdown to the real scenario, probably,” Jian Fan said.
Qin Nan: “?”
They had all been together. How was it that he knew nothing?
“This isn’t an escape room. This world should have something to do with Qi Xu,” Jian Fan said.
Qin Nan nodded. “And?”
“Two of the camera’s recordings are abnormal.”
“The first is from Qi Xu’s funeral, and the second is the one we’re in.” Qin Nan quickly picked up his train of thought. He did not know how Jian Fan had arrived at it, but he could guess what he meant now. “You’re saying this camera will take us back to the time of Qi Xu’s funeral? That’s the scenario we’re really supposed to experience?”
Jian Fan nodded.
It all fell into place for Qin Nan.
“So this is a countdown to the start of the scenario. And the reason there’s a countdown is that not all our members are here yet. If Qin Weiyi and Lu Jing don’t get here before it ends, they’ll…”
“Die,” Jian Fan supplied directly.
Qin Nan felt decidedly unwell again.
He swept his gaze around the mourning hall.
This was a sealed room. How were Lu Jing and Qin Weiyi supposed to get in? And they only had five minutes. No, four now. Waste a little more time, and they would not even have that.
“Qin Weiyi’s clever. He should be able to find us.” Qin Nan could only console himself. Then he fixed his gaze on the countdown, wishing he could stare it to a halt.
He stared and stared.
Time passed quickly. The countdown entered its final sixty seconds.
Soon, the last ten seconds began.
Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two…
Lu Jing was still running with Qin Weiyi over his shoulder.
“Xiao Qin, what do we do now?” he asked, keeping an eye on the situation behind them.
Qin Weiyi was thinking too.
They had entered together with Jian Fan and the other two. Until he discovered something wrong, they had been filming the show. Jian Fan’s group probably thought they were still filming too. But because they had been in different locations, they had been sent to different places.
Put simply, he and Lu Jing were together, filming false versions of Jian Fan’s group. The real three were in another parallel space, being filmed by false versions of Lu Jing and Qin Weiyi.
As staff, the two of them were in an open area. Jian Fan’s group, however, should have been sent into a sealed room.
They were probably still in something like an escape room.
Escape rooms… three Scripts.
Were the Scripts identical, or…
Wait. If they had entered separate spaces from the very beginning, the Script Jian Fan’s group received might not be the ancient castle Lu Jing had chosen. There were still two other Scripts…
“Lu Jing, what were the other two escape room Scripts?” Qin Weiyi asked.
Still running, Lu Jing answered, “One was a funeral home, I think. The other was an old mansion.”
An old mansion. An ancient castle. A funeral home.
A hospital building. An office building.
Qi Xu.
The first two locations had both been connected to Qi Xu. The third, the one Jian Fan’s group was experiencing, had to be connected to him too. An old mansion or an ancient castle could both fit. Perhaps Qi Xu had spent a fortune buying historic buildings. But…
A funeral home was a much more direct connection!
“Go find the Scripts,” Qin Weiyi said at once.
He did not know how to find the funeral home’s filming location. But since this was a world of technology, or perhaps the supernatural, the only way he could think of to enter the relevant world was to find something connected to it first.
The Script was the only such thing.
Lu Jing immediately carried Qin Weiyi toward the room he had been in earlier.
He had casually left the Scripts on the table.
Lu Jing ran very fast.
Or rather, once he and Qin Weiyi entered a certain area, the seven NPCs, whatever they were, abandoned the chase.
Lu Jing took Qin Weiyi straight into the room.
He put Qin Weiyi down, grabbed the Scripts nearby, and turned to hand them over. “Xiao Qin, it’s this…”
Before he could finish, however, he felt a pull. He looked sharply down at the stack of Scripts in his hands, astonished.
The papers were emitting a white light, and that light was trying to swallow him.
Shit!
What was this?
Lu Jing was shocked.
Qin Weiyi, however, knew he had guessed correctly.
He immediately stepped forward and pressed his hand onto the Script too.
The moment he touched it, the light spread over him as well.
Before long, both men vanished. At the same time, the white light gradually faded, and everything fell quiet again.
Qin Nan and the others knew nothing of what Lu Jing and Qin Weiyi had experienced.
They watched the countdown before them.
It was almost over.
Qin Weiyi and Lu Jing still had not appeared.
They were about to lose two companions.
Even Jian Fan was surprised. Amid that surprise, he could not help feeling some regret.
Had he been overconfident this time?
On the projected screen, the countdown had dropped from two to one. Zero would come next, and then there would be no room to change anything.
But just then…
Countdown: 0.9.
Qin Nan: “????”
It could do that?
Qin Nan felt as though he had been brought back to life at full health. Then he reconsidered. What use was it? They had hardly gained any time.
The countdown soon reached 0.1.
Then…
Countdown: 0.09.
At that number, Qin Nan went numb. Jian Fan was speechless as well.
Why not simply say the scenario would begin once everyone arrived? Did it really have to mess with their heads first?
