Chapter 116
Chapter 116
The moment the Green Bubbles touched the surrounding water, their growth came to a screeching halt.
Everyone watched as the Green Bubbles bypassed Qin Nan and began spreading in other directions.
Jian Fan let out a heavy sigh of relief.
Qin Nan also exhaled sharply, though while the immediate danger was gone, his current situation was far from ideal. He was stuck in such a small area that any movement might result in being swallowed by the Green Bubbles. Furthermore, he had to consider one thing: what would happen once the water evaporated?
He couldn’t possibly keep using his Points to exchange for water, could he?
Qin Nan began to fret over his predicament once more.
He hoped Lu Jing could finish off those Rabbits quickly. That way, since Jian Fan had already made it out, Jian Fan could move some stones over here to help him escape.
Speaking of Lu Jing, Qin Nan paused, looking toward Lu Jing’s last known position.
Lu Jing had been right by the tree, which was the first place the Green Bubbles had invaded. At this point, wouldn’t Lu Jing be…? Qin Nan thought back and realized it had indeed been quite a while since he had heard any gunfire.
Qin Nan wasn’t the only one searching for Lu Jing; Qin Weiyi was as well.
Once Qin Weiyi realized it was too late to help the people behind him, he had started scanning for Lu Jing’s figure.
He was the first to notice that the gunfire had ceased.
Those Rabbits were clearly subject to the Poison Circle just like them. Under the assault of the Green Bubbles, none had survived.
But what about Lu Jing?
Lu Jing had been bringing up the rear. No one had seen which way he rolled at the last second, and now, looking out across the field, there was nothing but a sea of green. Where could Lu Jing possibly be?
Qin Weiyi clenched his fists, his eyes gradually reddening.
Could Lu Jing have survived?
Qin Weiyi desperately hoped so, but he had to face reality. How could Lu Jing possibly survive under these circumstances? He wasn’t Xia Zeqin, who carried sand with him, nor was he Qin Nan, who happened to have water on hand to resolve the crisis.
However-
“Lu Jing!” Qin Weiyi suddenly shouted at the top of his lungs.
It was like a release of pent-up emotion, his voice trembling with a hint of a sob. The people around him were also feeling downcast, mourning the death of a Partner while worrying about the road ahead. Without Lu Jing, they truly lacked any real combat power.
No one believed Lu Jing was still alive.
Yet, just as Qin Weiyi’s shout faded, Lu Jing’s booming voice drifted over from not far away.
“Xiao Qin, I’m right here!” Lu Jing’s voice rang in everyone’s ears.
The group froze in shock, while Qin Weiyi was overcome with pure joy.
As for why Lu Jing had survived, Qin Weiyi didn’t want to think about that at all right now. As long as he was alive, that was all that mattered.
Qin Nan was also happy, but alongside his joy, he found it rather miraculous. Lu Jing was actually alive? He was quite curious about how Lu Jing had managed to pull it off.
After responding, Lu Jing shouted toward them again, “Xiao Qin, hurry up and figure out a way to build me a path! My spot is a bit small, and it’s a tight squeeze!”
Qin Weiyi let out a laugh despite himself, shouting back, “Okay, I’ve got it!”
Qin Nan joined in from the side, yelling, “Lu Jing! Is the danger gone? Are there any enemies left?”
“Gone! They’re all dead. These Green Bubbles are way too powerful,” Lu Jing’s loud voice quickly returned.
Listening to the group shouting back and forth, Lin Junruo suddenly burst into a giggle. She suddenly felt that this was nice.
The Realm of Death was terrifying, but there were people here who weren’t terrifying at all. Before, she had only followed Mu Xin, doing whatever Mu Xin said like a puppet on a string, never worrying about or considering anyone else’s safety. But in this moment, she felt her heart filled with the richest, most beautiful emotions in the world.
It was good.
It was so good that they were still alive.
Though she grieved for the deaths of Orange Hair and Qian Xing, she was even more relieved that Qin Nan and Lu Jing had survived.
Once the initial wave of relief passed, everyone quickly got to work.
Sand was nowhere to be found, and water was far too precious to waste. The only resource they could utilize right now was stone.
They scrambled to gather rocks from the vicinity, passing them forward one by one.
Unlike Qin Nan’s previous temporary immunity to the Green Bubbles, the others had no such protection. They had to be extremely careful while placing the stones, making sure they didn’t accidentally slip into the Green Bubbles themselves.
Because of this, their progress was somewhat slow.
There were currently three people trapped among the Green Bubbles. Lu Jing’s situation was unclear for the moment, and Xia Zeqin wasn’t in any immediate danger. The highest priority was Qin Nan.
They had to get Qin Nan out before the moisture evaporated.
Fortunately, Qin Nan had originally been running toward the foot of the mountain, so he wasn’t particularly far from their stony path. After a considerable amount of effort, they finally managed to extend the stones to his feet.
Jian Fan placed the final stone.
“Let’s go,” Jian Fan said casually, as if Qin Nan weren’t in any danger at all and they were just there to pick him up.
Qin Nan smiled at Jian Fan, then handed over his backpack and the surviving Down Jacket.
The water had been completely used up, but the Compressed Biscuits inside were still there-they couldn’t let those go to waste.
Jian Fan took them, returned the smile, and turned to lead the way back.
After Jian Fan had taken a few steps, Qin Nan braced his hand against a stone and slowly pushed himself up from the ground. Once he found his footing, he stepped onto the stones and made his way back step by step.
While Qin Nan was being rescued, the others had already begun paving a path toward Xia Zeqin.
Xia Zeqin wasn’t far from Qin Nan, so he was rescued shortly after.
Next was Lu Jing.
They continued passing the stones forward one by one.
With Xia Zeqin and Qin Nan joining the effort, their speed increased significantly. However, Lu Jing was quite a distance away, and this time, the group had to put in a lot of work.
As they slowly extended the path, they finally caught sight of Lu Jing.
Lu Jing was currently huddled under a tree. The space he had to survive in was about the same size as Qin Nan’s. However, Lu Jing was much larger than Qin Nan, making the space look incredibly cramped.
Lu Jing saw Qin Nan first.
Watching Qin Nan place stones toward him, Lu Jing was deeply moved. “Brother Qin Nan, you’re finally here! I was just about at my limit.”
Seeing a grown man like Lu Jing curled into a ball was actually quite a funny sight. However, considering Lu Jing’s predicament, Qin Nan tried his best to stifle his laughter.
While Lu Jing was sitting, no one noticed anything unusual; they only saw that the Green Bubbles were avoiding him. But when the stones reached him and Lu Jing braced himself against them to stand up, everyone finally saw the secret of the ground where he had been sitting.
The spot where Lu Jing had been crouching was a patch of bare earth-just soil, without a single plant growing on it.
Jian Fan, who was nearby, suddenly laughed when he saw this. “I understand now.”
Qin Nan turned to Jian Fan with a look of confusion.
He wanted to know: what exactly did Jian Fan understand this time?
