Chapter 94
Chapter 94
The night deepened.
As the sound of breathing behind them grew steady, the trio of Qin Nan and the others lowered their voices.
In truth, it was mostly just Qin Nan and Yellow Hair talking.
Jian Fan only chimed in occasionally. Qin Nan and Yellow Hair, both being extroverts, had actually managed to strike up a real conversation.
As the two were chatting in low tones, Yellow Hair’s expression suddenly froze. He blinked and gestured with his chin toward a certain direction. “Qin Nan, did you see a flash of light just now?”
Qin Nan shook his head and looked in the direction Yellow Hair was pointing. “No, what light? Are you tired? Seeing things?”
Yellow Hair became a bit uncertain. “Maybe I am seeing things?”
Jian Fan had been staring down at the fire, but hearing their exchange, he looked up as well. At that moment, however, everything was pitch black except for the campfire before them and the starry sky above-a view impossible to find in the real world.
Where was there any light?
Yet, Jian Fan didn’t think what Yellow Hair saw was an illusion.
He stood up and gazed in the direction Yellow Hair had indicated. Naturally, he couldn’t see anything. Moreover, without knowing the distance, nighttime was clearly not a good time for scouting.
*I’ll go check it out tomorrow,*
Jian Fan decided. Just as he was about to sit back down, Lu Jing, who had been lying among the group behind them, snapped his eyes open.
Lu Jing sat up instantly without making a sound. He scanned his surroundings and found nothing out of the ordinary, but he didn’t relax. As if struck by a thought, he suddenly jerked his head upward.
“Get out of the way!” Lu Jing’s expression changed drastically as he bellowed at the top of his lungs.
Lu Jing shouted so loudly that everyone was jolted awake, though they couldn’t react immediately. Qin Weiyi opened his eyes, still looking dazed, only to be grabbed by Lu Jing and hurled toward a nearby stretch of sand.
It wasn’t just Qin Weiyi; Orange Hair and Qian Xing were also tossed aside by Lu Jing. Simultaneously, Lu Jing himself lunged outward with explosive speed.
Lu Jing had done a lot, but in reality, only a few seconds had passed. Before Qin Nan and the other two could even process what was happening, they saw Qin Weiyi and the others being thrown over. A second after Lu Jing cleared the area, something fell from the sky and slammed into the spot where the four of them had been sleeping.
Qi Shuping and the others were sleeping some distance away from Lu Jing’s group and weren’t in any life-threatening danger. However, when the object hit, it kicked up a cloud of dust and grit that sprayed all over their faces.
Mu Xin wiped her face with her hand while quickly pulling Lin Junruo up, heading toward Qin Nan and the others.
Since they didn’t know what it was, staying away was the safest choice.
Qi Shuping and Xu Tian reacted quickly as well, following behind Mu Xin to regroup with Qin Nan’s party.
“What’s the deal?” Orange Hair scrambled up from a pile of sand, spitting out grit as he questioned Yellow Hair.
Yellow Hair shook his head; he was just as confused. Seeing no answers from each other, the two instinctively turned to look at Lu Jing.
“What is that thing?” Qin Nan asked. Everything had happened too fast. If not for Lu Jing, that thing would have crushed them-at least one of the four would be dead, and the rest maimed.
Lu Jing was currently pulling Qin Weiyi to his feet. Hearing Qin Nan’s question, he gave a casual reply: “Not sure. You guys stay here, I’m going to take a look.”
Qin Weiyi had just found his footing when he heard Lu Jing’s words, and his brow furrowed immediately.
He wasn’t very keen on letting Lu Jing take the risk.
Lu Jing understood Qin Weiyi’s concern and gave him a small smile. “It’s fine. I’ve even defused bombs before. I’m faster than all of you; if anything happens, I’ll be able to dodge it.”
While he knew Lu Jing’s background was likely extraordinary, defusing bombs was another level…
Qin Nan swallowed hard.
If he told someone he knew a big brother who could defuse bombs, they would probably think he was just bragging.
Although Qin Weiyi was reluctant, he wouldn’t force Lu Jing to stay. He nodded and said, “Be careful.”
As Lu Jing walked toward the unknown object, Xia Zeqin also stepped out of his tent. He didn’t come over, instead standing at the entrance of the tent, watching Lu Jing with an expressionless face.
As he neared the object, Lu Jing immediately grew alert. He lowered his center of gravity and approached it step by step with caution.
Once he was close enough to see what it was, Lu Jing’s expression turned peculiar.
It was a Military Box.
He was very familiar with this item, but why would something like this appear here?
Lu Jing approached with a face full of doubt. He didn’t open the box immediately, instead tapping it with his hand first and then leaning in to listen for any sounds. Finding nothing out of the ordinary, he focused all his attention and began to open the box.
Everyone else watched Lu Jing with tense expressions.
The Realm of Death would never let them experience a simple Deserted Island Survival scenario. Therefore, this unknown object was very likely a setting unique to the Realm of Death, which would directly affect their survival in this world.
The box wasn’t difficult to open, but Lu Jing didn’t dare act rashly. He took it one step at a time, spending quite a bit of time on it. When the box finally opened and he saw the contents inside, Lu Jing was stunned.
What was going on?
He stood up and pulled a Sniper Rifle out of the Military Box.
The group watched as Lu Jing approached cautiously, then suddenly seemed to relax. Then they saw him stand up, shouldering a gun.
What on earth?
After Lu Jing glanced at the Sniper Rifle in his hand, he peered into the box a few more times.
A Pistol, some ammunition, and the rest were daily necessities like tents.
Lu Jing was confused, but he immediately took possession of both guns. Aside from the dangers of the Realm of Death, a Player might also shoot them in the back; he couldn’t give them that opportunity.
In the eyes of the others, they saw Lu Jing open the box, then head back toward them with a Pistol in one hand and a Sniper Rifle over his shoulder. The feeling was… quite difficult to describe.
Qin Weiyi didn’t feel that way, though.
As far as weapons were concerned, the more the better.
“What’s the situation?” Qin Weiyi asked.
Lu Jing handed the Pistol directly to Qin Weiyi and said, “For self-defense.” Only then did he answer Qin Weiyi’s question. “It’s a Military Box. It’s very strange; there are also things like tents inside.”
Yellow Hair froze for a moment, then blurted out, “Chicken Dinner?”
Quite a few people present were familiar with that term.
Qin Nan thought about it and felt it really was somewhat similar. He spoke with a complicated expression, “There won’t be a need to Run the Poison Circle, will there?”
“What’s ‘Run the Poison Circle’?” Lu Jing asked, looking completely puzzled. “If there really is poison gas, even I wouldn’t be able to outrun it. You guys can actually run through a Poison Circle?”
Qin Weiyi cleared his throat and explained, “It’s a game.”
“I know that. Isn’t the Realm of Death a game?” Lu Jing replied as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
Everyone fell silent. He wasn’t wrong.
