Chapter 92

Liu Ye looked up, thought for a moment, then said in sudden realization,

“Baolong!”

“It’s me, Brother Liu!”

Baolong was overjoyed. He never expected to run into Liu Ye here. This run was as good as in the bag.

When the group behind him saw his reaction, they hurriedly asked,

“Big Brother Baolong, is this guy really strong?”

“Insanely strong. On one of my previous missions, he carried me from start to finish and slaughtered his way through the whole thing. With him around, there was basically nothing left for us to do.”

The group instantly lit up with joy. They were all rookies who had only been through one or two Fiendish World missions.

After learning what this mission was, they had all fallen into despair. The Bus No. 444 mission was famously dangerous in their circles. Several groups had already been wiped out.

But now, with a big shot protecting them, they were safe.

“Bro, we’ll be counting on you for our safety.”

“Yeah, bro. You wouldn’t just watch us die, right?”

“Bro, if we die, that basically makes you the killer too!”

The first few lines had been fine, but the more Baolong listened, the more wrong it sounded. Wasn’t this basically moral blackmail?

He was just about to speak when he heard Liu Ye pat his chest and say,

“Since everyone trusts me this much, I’ll definitely protect you all. I’ll definitely get everyone to where they need to go.”

When the group heard Liu Ye say that, they were instantly delighted. So this expert was kindhearted! That made things much easier.

“Brother Liu, don’t be like that. The nicer you are to people like them, the more they’ll take advantage of you,” Baolong said. This was a bloody lesson he had learned from past experience.

“It’s fine. You know me. I’m just that kind of kindhearted person. I can’t stand seeing other people suffer. Back in the village, everyone used to call me Saintly Father,” Liu Ye said.

Hearing that term, Baolong thought back to the Liuxi Village mission…

Baolong: “…”

How are you connected to those two words in any way?!

“Bro, who gave you that Saintly Father nickname?”

“The people in my village. Every time I went out with them to have fun, I’d be the only one who came back in the end. The villagers even called me Dad. Isn’t that messing up the family hierarchy?” Liu Ye was depressed too. Seriously, if they were leaving, they could have at least said something.

Baolong: “…”

So that was the kind of Saintly Father he meant-the last father standing!!!

Baolong suddenly felt that this trip might not be so safe after all.

The bus continued on its route. At that moment, the faces of the people inside began turning deathly pale.

Because the real danger was about to begin.

This mission had two main objectives. First, they had to ride this bus all the way to the terminal station. Second, they had to make sure that when they arrived at the terminal station, everyone sitting on the bus was human.

With Liu Ye here, their safety was guaranteed. But if there was a Fiend on the bus when they reached the terminal station, they would still die.

Psssh…

“Wanghun Residential Community. Passengers getting off, please exit through the rear door.”

Everyone’s body tensed.

Then they saw two people board through the front doors, one old and one young. The old woman had a face full of wrinkles and looked extremely aged. In one hand, she carried a vegetable basket. With the other, she held a child’s hand.

“Good grandson! Let’s go sit in the back.”

The moment she said that, the people in the back immediately grew nervous.

This bus was on the smaller side, with only thirty-six seats in total. Apart from the last row, which had six seats, all the other seats were arranged in pairs.

Including Baolong’s group and Liu Ye, there were nine of them altogether. They had all taken window seats on the left side.

Only Liu Ye was sitting in the seat behind the exit door.
The old woman glanced around, then went and sat down behind Liu Ye. For some reason, though, the child’s face suddenly filled with reluctance, as if he were afraid of something.

A sharp young man wearing a cap noticed the child’s expression, and his heart leaped into his throat.

There were rumors that children could sometimes see things adults couldn’t.

So what was that child afraid of? A bad feeling suddenly rose in the young man’s chest.

After all, everyone here had boarded together. There was only one person who hadn’t.

Liu Ye!

Liu Ye was a Fiend!

He instantly came to that conclusion, and cold sweat broke out all over him. If they really believed Liu Ye, then they were in danger!

For a moment, everyone on the bus fell silent. Baolong and the others stayed quiet because they had no idea whether these two people were Fiends or not.

They were terrified that saying the wrong thing might touch a Taboo and get them killed.

But staying silent wouldn’t work either. If no one spoke, how were they supposed to determine whether the two were Fiends?

Just as they were worrying, something suddenly happened on Liu Ye’s side.

Before Liu Ye had gone out, he’d been afraid there wouldn’t be anything to eat on the road, so he’d cooked a few flatbreads back at the apartment. Now that he was hungry, he was eating one when the old woman behind him suddenly spoke.

“Young man! Those flatbreads in your pocket smell pretty good. Give me one, won’t you?”

The old woman said it with a beaming smile.

But as soon as she finished, the child beside her hurriedly said, “Um, Grandma, I’m not hungry. Let’s not, okay?”

Who would have thought Liu Ye would immediately speak up?

“Don’t be shy, kid. Look at you, so polite. What a good boy. Let me tell you, when you’re away from home, people should help each other out. Here, eat up!”

Liu Ye handed over a flatbread.

The young man in the cap saw the terror on the child’s face and became even more certain that Liu Ye was a Fiend.

And when he thought about the child’s special ability, how the kid could help them distinguish ghosts and monsters, he knew they absolutely couldn’t let Liu Ye kill him.

So he immediately said, “A child that small could choke on flatbread. Why don’t we just forget it?”

“How can we forget it? He’s giving the bread to me. What’s it got to do with you?” the old woman snapped.

Then she snatched the flatbread from Liu Ye’s hand, tore off a piece, and quickly stuffed it into the child’s mouth.

The child: “…”

In that instant, he felt as if he’d swallowed a burning coal. His entire ghostly body was on fire.

That’s right. He was a Fiend. His name was Child Fiend. Strictly speaking, he belonged to the same category as Guiwa.

They had all been abandoned right after birth and eventually died by accident.

They had only just arrived in this world, only to have their lives brutally taken from them. Because of that, powerful resentment formed, finally gathering into Fiends.

His ability, however, was far inferior to Guiwa’s. His ability was to confuse adults, making them mistakenly believe he was their child, and then slowly kill them off.

He simply hadn’t expected the person he confused this time to be this damn fierce.

“Aiya, ma’am, why would you give a child such a big piece all at once? A child’s esophagus is delicate. Here, drink some water and wash it down!”

Liu Ye twisted open a bottle of water and, ignoring the Child Fiend’s resistance, shoved it into his mouth.

In that instant, the Child Fiend felt as if he’d drunk sulfuric acid. His entire body trembled!

“Look at that, you’ve made the kid choke. Ma’am, don’t take this the wrong way, but as parents, we have to be attentive.”

“Brother Liu… if you keep pouring, his eyes are going to roll back,” Baolong said carefully.

Liu Ye looked down.

“Aiya, sorry about that. My bad!”
