Chapter 33
Chapter 33
“Ahhh!”
Zhao Ze shot upright in bed. He had just had an absolutely terrifying nightmare.
He dreamed that he had run into a Fiend. Even worse, the thing had written something like, Welcome to the Terror World.
The most crucial part was that he remembered the scene from the dream with perfect clarity. He could even recall every expression he had made.
“I’ve really been going overboard lately.”
He rubbed his head and instinctively looked up at the ceiling. In the next second, his entire body froze as a massive wave of terror flooded through him.
On the mirror he had installed on the ceiling, several bloody words had appeared in stark red.
“Welcome to the Fiendish World!”
“Ahhh!”
Zhao Ze leapt out of bed, threw on a piece of clothing, and bolted outside.
As he passed the coffee table, he failed to notice that the book lying on it had been blown open by several pages.
He rushed out of his apartment, ran into the elevator, and frantically jabbed the button for the first floor.
The elevator doors slowly closed, and the numbers on the display began to descend.
Zhao Ze panted heavily. His stamina was not bad, but the string of shocks had completely rattled him. Now, trapped in such a confined space, he felt an oppressive tightness in his chest.
Suddenly, he had the sense that he had forgotten something. It was a strange feeling, as if an extremely important memory had been forcibly gouged out of his mind.
It was enough to make him forget the terror before his eyes as he desperately tried to remember what exactly he had lost. But no matter how hard he tried, he could not recall it.
Boom!
The elevator abruptly lurched to a stop. A moment later, the lights went out, leaving only the emergency switch flickering.
Zhao Ze was instantly seized by fear. He pounded wildly on the elevator doors, his mind already shattered by sheer panic.
Yet in that instant of overwhelming terror, an image flashed through his mind. He seemed to remember something, but at that very moment, the elevator doors were pried open.
A hand reached inside.
“Quick, grab my hand!”
It was a woman’s voice. Zhao Ze had no time to think about anything else and immediately grabbed her hand.
In that instant, he felt a tremendous force come through his arm, and he was yanked up in one pull. One had to know, he weighed nearly two hundred pounds.
After getting out, he thanked her in a trembling voice.
“It’s nothing. You just happened to be my mission target, that’s all.”
Hearing her voice, Zhao Ze looked up and saw a fair-skinned, stunningly beautiful woman standing in front of him.
He knew this woman, too. Her name seemed to be Wang Zixuan, and she was his neighbor.
Back when he had first seen her, he had even wanted to pursue her. In the end, however, she had rejected him without mercy and even given him a beating. After that, he had never dared to provoke her again.
“All right, let’s go find the next one.”
Wang Zixuan stood up. Zhao Ze could tell that she seemed to be in a bad mood, so he did not dare ask any questions and obediently followed behind her.
In truth, that was exactly the case. Her mood could be described as terrible.
This damn mission was already troublesome enough, but the most unacceptable part was that she was not allowed to conceal her face. Her identity would definitely be exposed. For an unaffiliated player like her, that meant she would have no choice but to seek shelter with some other faction when the time came.
They went downstairs. A car was parked below, and only after Wang Zixuan carefully checked its condition did she get in.
“Where are we going now?” Zhao Ze asked.
“To find the others. With more people, our chances of surviving will be a little higher.”
As she spoke, she glanced at Zhao Ze again and said coldly, “Fasten your seat belt.”
Zhao Ze immediately did as he was told and buckled up.
Wang Zixuan stepped on the gas and drove toward a hospital in the city. She knew one of the targets was a celebrity.
Judging from his condition, he seemed to have been attacked as well.
She had heard he was still alive, so they wanted to find him first. After all, in his current state, he likely couldn’t be moved.
It would give her a good chance to observe the rules of this mission. She wasn’t delusional enough to think all six of them could survive. If they managed to save even one, that would already be good enough.
She drove steadily, keeping her speed at around sixty kilometers an hour, not daring to go any faster.
She had already seen two accidents on the news today, and she didn’t believe they were coincidences. So even though she badly wanted to meet up with the others, she still didn’t dare speed.
Whoosh.
Just then, a light breeze blew past. A truck suddenly pulled up beside them, loaded with a massive amount of rebar. One glance was enough to tell it was carrying far more than the legal limit.
The ropes tied over the load were already straining to hold the rebar in place, but with that gust of wind, it was as if the final straw had broken the camel’s back. The ropes snapped in an instant, and the rebar went flying in every direction.
Right beside it was the car Wang Zixuan was driving.
Boom!
Several steel bars came crashing down onto the car. One of them even pierced straight through the vehicle and drove into Zhao Ze’s chest.
The airbags deployed, and the tremendous impact knocked Wang Zixuan unconscious on the spot.
But at that very moment, the car’s fuel tank began to leak. And, by sheer coincidence, the driver of a passing car flicked a cigarette butt out the window.
Boom!
A violent explosion erupted into the air, blasting the car to pieces.
…
“Ahhh!”
Zhao Ze shot up from the bed, his entire body soaked in sweat. He panted heavily, grabbed the bottle of mineral water beside him, and gulped it down.
Only after draining the entire bottle in one breath did he calm down a little. The agonizing pain of being pierced by steel and the sensation of flames scorching his body still felt vivid, making him tremble uncontrollably.
“Was it a dream?”
Zhao Ze murmured to himself. But in the next second, his head snapped up, and he saw the line of bloody words written on the ceiling.
“Welcome to the Fiendish World!”
“!!!”
It was all real! Zhao Ze clutched his head, his whole body shaking uncontrollably. But in that instant, he seemed to remember something. Images flashed through his mind, scenes from when he had gone out for fun a few days ago.
They had been on a small island, drinking and singing. Then… then… he couldn’t remember again.
He slapped his own head, trying to force himself to recall it, but no matter what he did, he couldn’t remember what had happened next.
He couldn’t even remember how he had gotten back in the first place.
The feeling was unbearably frustrating, like something was right there on the tip of his tongue, only for him to fall just short of remembering it.
Ding-dong!
Just then, the doorbell rang. He quickly went to the door and looked through the peephole, only to see Wang Zixuan standing outside.
He immediately opened the door and said to her, “I know what you’re going to say. Listen to me first!”
Then he quickly told Wang Zixuan everything he had seen in his dream.
Wang Zixuan stared at him in shock. Could he predict the future?
