Chapter 42
Chapter 42
On the track in front of the roller coaster, a bolt suddenly came loose, and the entire section of track dropped away in an instant.
“Brother Yang, look! This is way too advanced! The track can even transform!” Liu Ye shouted excitedly.
“That’s a goddamn derailment!!!” Fu Yang roared in despair.
…
Meanwhile, on Lyu Jicheng’s side, after running for a while, he stopped with his hands braced on his knees, gasping hard. He randomly found a shop, went inside, grabbed a bottle of soda, and gulped it down.
He planned to head straight for the beach and take that yacht back. As for what happened to John and the others, he couldn’t care less.
“Scratch, scratch, scratch…”
The sound of writing suddenly came from beside his ear. Lyu Jicheng instinctively looked toward it and found a television playing a video.
In the video, seven kids in their teens rode a speedboat to a deserted island. The place was completely barren, yet the seven children were having the time of their lives.
Lyu Jicheng hadn’t intended to watch, but the instant he saw what was on the screen, he froze as if struck by lightning.
“I… I remember now.”
Click!
The signal on the tablet cut out instantly, and John frowned.
It seemed Lyu Jicheng was dead too. Through the surveillance feed, John had also seen that scene: seven children playing. And the island those children had gone to was most likely this very island.
Judging by the timing, it should have been from seven years ago, because Chongmen Island had started construction exactly seven years ago.
The video had been shot very clearly, so he could make out all seven of their faces.
Six of them were obviously Lyu Jicheng and the others when they were young.
But the seventh person was a complete stranger. When John had first taken this job, he had already investigated all seven of them thoroughly.
Yet he had never found any information related to this seventh person.
He took out an electronic pen, quickly sketched the person’s portrait, and sent it to a friend, asking him to search for the person in the national database.
Soon, John received a reply, but the result shocked him.
“This person doesn’t exist?”
“That’s right. The person you asked me to find doesn’t exist at all,” the other party said.
John hung up. This made the whole thing even stranger. What exactly had happened back then? Thinking of this, he looked toward the movie theater.
It seemed to be screening only one film. If he wanted to know the truth, it looked like he had no choice but to go in.
…
On the other side, Liu Ye pushed the half-dead Fu Yang to the bungee jumping area.
Fu Yang was foaming at the mouth, his lips moving as he silently cursed something. His throat had only just started to recover, and now it was hoarse again.
Never in his wildest dreams had he imagined that after the roller coaster derailed and the two of them were flung off, Liu Ye would actually drag him down to the ground safely.
Well… calling it “safely” wasn’t exactly accurate, considering his face had still been slammed into the ground.
After that, Liu Ye had dragged him nonstop to the bungee jumping site.
And this was no ordinary bungee jump. The best part about this one was that there was no rope. Instead, there was a giant net below. Once you jumped, the net would catch you.
“Brother Yang, wanna jump?” Liu Ye asked excitedly.
“Heh heh heh. I do. Whoever doesn’t jump today is a coward!” Fu Yang said viciously.
He had figured it out. Today, he was going to drag this bastard down with him!
He already knew how to trigger a Fiend Taboo. Wasn’t it just failing to remember something when recalling the past?
He immediately began searching his memory. In that instant, he felt as if he had forgotten something.
A breeze began to stir. Just as confusion washed over him, an image suddenly burst into his mind.
“Brother Yang! Come play with us!”
Fu Yang: “…”
That feeling left him in an instant.
“Ahhh!!!”
…
By now, John had already arrived inside the movie theater. He had not let Wang Zixuan and the others come in with him.
He was afraid that if Zhao Na and the others watched the film, they would all be killed too.
So he had Wang Zixuan and the others wait outside, and warned them not to enter any of the rooms, because the contents of the film might be playing in there as well.
After entering the theater, John looked around. The movie theater was not large; it could only seat a dozen or so people.
But all of its facilities were quite luxurious.
He casually picked up a bucket of popcorn, then walked into the screening room.
John chose a random seat and sat down. Seeing a pair of 3D glasses beside him, he picked them up and put them on. The instant he did, an image appeared on the screen in front of him.
“…”
“Scratch, scratch…”
The sound of writing rang out. John felt his vision blur, and then he suddenly found himself sitting on a wooden chair. In front of him was an old-fashioned blackboard, with a huge pig’s head drawn on it.
“Ready. Who’s going first?”
A voice spoke, brimming with excitement.
John turned his head and saw Zhao Ze and the others. Only now, they were all very young, around fifteen or sixteen years old.
“Me! I’ll go!”
The young Xie Baoguo rushed over excitedly, reached into a box, rummaged around, and pulled out a crumpled ball of paper. After opening it, his expression turned ugly.
“What the hell? This again? Who wrote this? We’re sick of this one already.”
“Enough crap. Hurry up and do it. I’m still waiting,” the young Fu Yang said impatiently.
“Fine!”
Xie Baoguo sighed, then walked toward him and blew hard into his face.
John could not do anything. This body seemed to have been startled; when it saw Xie Baoguo, it began gesturing in a panic. Looking closely, one could see that a section of its thumb was missing.
“What are you gesturing for? Talk. Come on, talk, and I won’t mess with you anymore. Say something!” Xie Baoguo said gleefully.
John opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but not the slightest sound came out. He could feel that this body’s eyes had already turned red, and tears were falling.
“If you don’t say anything, I’ll take that as a yes. Look.”
Xie Baoguo took out the slip of paper from before. Written on it were three words: lighter.
This body trembled even harder. It shoved Xie Baoguo away and tried to run, only to be kicked to the ground by Lyu Jicheng. Then Xie Baoguo mounted him at once.
He slapped the boy on the head.
“You still want to run, you little shit?”
Then he flicked the lighter and began burning the boy’s hair. The boy was so frightened that his lips turned white, yet he still could not make a single sound.
John could even feel the sensation of the flames. His scalp seemed to have been burned. He wanted to get up and fight back, but this body held him back. He could sense that it was utterly terrified.
Around him, Zhao Ze and the others all burst into loud laughter.
As their laughter echoed, John’s vision sank into darkness. When he regained consciousness again, he found himself standing on a rooftop.
