Chapter 162
Chapter 162
A wave of heat hurled Liu Ye through the air. Fortunately, he reacted quickly and summoned his airbag in front of him, escaping without injury.
The airbag vanished again. Liu Ye stood and looked back.
The building was gone.
“What the hell?!”
Liu Ye truly deserved the title of Saintly Father. Faced with such devastation, he disregarded his own safety and immediately charged into the ruins to rescue people.
One after another, he dragged victims from the rubble. Whether by good fortune or bad, no one had died, but…
Looking at the long row of charred figures lying on the ground, Liu Ye felt waves of sorrow.
How could a perfectly good hospital contain a bomb? Had terrorists attacked the place?
Several people in white coats approached, their expressions dark. The sight of the researchers sprawled across the ground made their hearts ache.
Every one of these people had been among their finest researchers. Now all of them were ruined.
“What exactly happened?” the leading man demanded, glowering at Liu Ye.
“I don’t know. I had just come out after picking up some medicine, and the building exploded. The blast threw me away.”
Liu Ye still looked shaken. Who could have imagined that collecting medicine would lead to something like this?
“Who do you work for?” the man in the white coat asked.
“Director Jia. A man named Zhao Qianyi told me today that he’d die without a certain medicine, so I came to retrieve it for him.”
Someone behind the man immediately approached with a computer.
“Dean, he’s telling the truth. Zhao Qianyi does have that condition.”
The dean nodded, and most of his suspicion toward Liu Ye disappeared. No criminal would cause a disaster like this and then rush back inside to save people.
Besides, the dean had judged countless people. One look into Liu Ye’s eyes told him the young man was honest.
He patted Liu Ye on the shoulder and spoke gently.
“You’ve worked hard. Go back for now.”
The dean thought the young man was promising and simple-hearted. If they drove him into despair, he might make an excellent experimental subject. For some reason, however, the brat looked vaguely familiar.
Now that others had arrived, Liu Ye had nothing more to do. He returned to the ward.
In Ward 06, Zhao Qianyi had been flirting with Zhang Ru when the sudden explosion startled him.
“What happened?”
His condition had fully returned, leaving him unable to see.
Zhang Ru went to the window and looked outside. Something seemed to be missing. What was it?
She stared.
Where was the building? How had an entire building suddenly disappeared?
A thought struck her, and she quietly asked Patient No. 6, “Which building stores your medicine?”
“Building Five. Why?” Patient No. 6 wondered if the brat had died.
“N-nothing.”
Zhang Ru swallowed. She had guessed what happened outside. Brother Liu was truly ruthless.
Soon, the ward door opened. Liu Ye entered covered in ash and carrying two plastic bags.
Zhang Ru hurried to take the bags and handed him a towel.
“Brother Liu, what happened outside?”
“Good grief, I’m telling you, it was close. You almost never saw me again.”
Liu Ye set aside the towel, picked up a cup of water, and gulped it down.
“Listen, none of you should go outside for the next few days. Terrorists may have infiltrated this hospital.”
“Terrorists? Weren’t you the one who blew it up?” Zhang Ru accidentally voiced her thoughts aloud.
Liu Ye’s face immediately darkened.
“What do you mean, I blew it up? I don’t like the way you people talk. Do I look capable of something that big? Why dump every filthy accusation on me? I’m an ordinary man. How could I possibly do that?”
“I’m… I’m sorry,” Zhang Ru apologized at once.
“Listen, miss, I’m not angry with you. I just feel wronged.”
Tears nearly filled Liu Ye’s eyes.
“I’m telling you, you city people are awful. Whenever anything happens, you pin it on me. Take Chongmen Island. I only went there on vacation and rode a roller coaster. Then the entire island vanished, and everyone insisted I blew it up. Tell me, isn’t that unfair?”
Zhang Ru and Patient No. 6 nodded. It was rather excessive.
Although Patient No. 6 was surprised that Liu Ye had returned alive, he did not take it seriously. A simpleton like this would be easy to play to death.
As for blaming Liu Ye for the catastrophe, that was genuinely absurd. Whoever had done it must have been shameless to pin an incident that large on a country bumpkin.
“And remember when the two of us attended that wedding feast? Wasn’t I running around helping with everything?”
Zhang Ru pursed her lips and twisted her hands together, overcome with guilt.
“You were.”
“Exactly. That wedding couldn’t even have happened without me, yet they said I ruined it. Honestly, it chilled me to the bone.”
Zhang Ru stared at him.
What could she say? She did not dare say anything. She knew what had happened back then, but… well, it was more or less as Liu Ye described.
“And then there was Huicheng High School. I was doing perfectly well as a teacher. The students adored me, and the administration was so satisfied with my teaching that they promoted me to dean of students. Then the whole school disappeared.”
“The school shut down?” Patient No. 6 asked curiously. He had already been hospitalized at the time and knew nothing about it.
Zhang Ru remained silent.
“It… shut down in a very physical sense.”
She knew about that incident. She simply had not realized Liu Ye had caused it too. Yes, by now she had decided it had been him. One or two incidents might be coincidence, but when every place he visited exploded, it stopped being coincidence.
“Forget it. I don’t want to talk about this anymore. If your Brother Liu hadn’t met some good people, who knows how much debt I’d owe by now? Sorry for making you listen to all these upsetting things. What that brat with bone hyperplasia said yesterday left me a little hurt.”
Liu Ye placed the plastic bags beside Patient No. 6.
“I brought your medicine. Don’t forget to take it.”
Wiping his tears, Liu Ye left. Once outside, he suddenly wondered if he had forgotten something.
“Forget it. If I can’t remember, it probably wasn’t important.”
He had forgotten to mention that he had mixed the medicine at random. Liu Ye returned directly to his ward. He was in no mood to care for anyone else today.
Inside Ward 06, Patient No. 6 felt around and found the medicine beside him.
“Hm? Why are these bottles so big?”
He paid it no further attention. He believed he had seen through a man like Liu Ye and was certain the coward would never dare deceive him.
Patient No. 6 unscrewed a cap and began gulping down the contents. He no longer needed the medicine to survive, but it did ease some of his physical symptoms.
Still, was it his imagination, or did the medicine taste different?
“Zhao Qianyi, I think our plan should-Aaah!”
Zhang Ru suddenly screamed in horror.
“What’s wrong?”
Patient No. 6 realized that his vision had returned. For some reason, however, Zhang Ru appeared upside down.
