Chapter 121
Chapter 121
Back at Nine Worlds Mountain in the real world, the dark figure tried to video-call Wang Xu.
Wang Xu immediately declined the call, then called back with audio only.
“Wang Xu, I found the thing. Let’s switch to video so I can show you.”
“No need. I don’t particularly want to see you for a while.”
The dark figure fell silent.
“What should I do now?”
“Release it here at Nine Worlds Mountain. It’s time the world learned a few things.”
“All right. I’ll livestream it for you!” the dark figure shouted excitedly.
“No need. Handle it yourself.”
Wang Xu quickly ended the call.
The dark figure stared at the phone.
Then he looked at the objects in his hand: a pair of bloodred eyeballs so unsettling that the mere sight of them sent chills down the spine.
He tossed them into the air and poured his yin energy into them. The eyeballs blazed with crimson light, and countless black shadows burst forth.
In Huicheng, Old Man paused over the cards in his hand at Rose Apartment. Something felt wrong.
“What is it?” Driver asked.
“Some little fellows have entered… but the timing isn’t right,” Old Man said, puzzled.
“Who cares? Let them come. What’s it got to do with us?” Driver played a pair of twos.
“I’m telling you, any world without that kid is heaven. The news said he disappeared. Maybe he died somewhere! Hahahaha!” Driver laughed wildly.
“Joker bomb!”
Driver fell silent.
“We’re partners! Why did you bomb me? I only had one card left!” he demanded furiously.
“Brother, it’s the last round, and I’ve lost too much. I wanted to… take a chance!” Shadow Fiend said.
Driver stared at him.
“Straight!”
“Bigger straight! Hahaha, I’m out. Pay up!” Old Man shouted in delight.
Driver had nothing left to say.
At the same time, scenes mirroring those in the Fiendish World unfolded across Huicheng. Great numbers of little Fiends began attacking humans.
“We’ve found a connection. Everyone attacked had some involvement with abortion. Nearly all the dead either had an abortion, advised someone to get one, or performed the procedure.”
“That’s completely unreasonable,” Frog said, speechless. “Some of them had no choice. Look at this woman-she was in a car accident. She didn’t want it to happen, but the pregnancy couldn’t be saved. What was she supposed to do?”
“You’re trying to reason with Fiends?” Xiaoshuai said helplessly. “This one had it even worse. He acted in a movie with a similar plot and delivered a few lines, and they bit him to death too. Where would you even go to argue your case?”
The dead man had once worked with him.
“Discussing that is pointless now. We need to resolve this quickly,” Swan said gravely.
Only Huicheng’s population knew of the Fiends’ existence so far. If the entire country learned the truth, the resulting wave of terror could attract extraordinarily powerful Fiends into the world.
“Have we determined where the little Fiends came from?” Swan asked.
“Have any of you heard the Legend of Nine Worlds Mountain?” John replied.
“No.”
Swan and the others shook their heads.
“I read it in an ancient text purchased by my family. The legend says that in a certain dynasty, the emperor became obsessed with immortality. Stories of immortals flourished across the empire, and countless frauds disguised themselves as holy men to cheat people.
“Near Nine Worlds Mountain, a Daoist called Wuxinzi exploited the ancient desire for sons. He convinced the people to sacrifice their newborn daughters to the River God, claiming it would make their wives bear boys.”
“Seriously? People believed that?” Frog asked in confusion. “Wouldn’t the fraud be exposed almost immediately?”
“Not necessarily.”
Xiaoshuai took out his phone, tapped rapidly, and placed it on the table. The screen displayed passages from several ancient texts.
“I read some records in the Illuminati. According to them, Fiends have existed since ancient times. Maybe he was using a Fiend’s power.”
“Perhaps. In any case, the practice continued for three years, until an official took office and forcibly stopped it. The people cursed him, his own family imprisoned him, and the frauds even tried to assassinate him.”
Swan and the others could imagine how difficult the official’s position must have been.
“In the end, however, the little Fiends’ resentment could not be dispersed. It erupted and brought an even greater Terror. Nine out of every ten people in the county died. Only when the official used his own eyes to suppress that Fiend did the disaster finally end.”
“Question!” Xiaoshuai raised a hand.
“Why was that official so special? He resolved a crisis of that scale with one pair of eyes? Isn’t that far too easy? And how did he even learn the method?”
John looked directly at him.
“The Yin-Yang Secret Codex.”
Xiaoshuai’s eyes widened.
“You mean that book?”
“Exactly. That’s what the record said. I was surprised too.” John tore open three packets of sugar, poured them into his coffee, stirred, and took a drink.
“So Wang Xu is the bastard behind this?”
The mere mention of the name made Xiaoshuai grind his teeth. The bastard had not only stolen his treasure but destroyed every Substitute Scarecrow he owned, leaving him completely trapped in John’s hands.
“It no longer matters who did it. Xu Fei, you’ve read that book, haven’t you? If the magistrate could seal the Fiend with a pair of eyes, we should be able to do the same.” Swan looked at Xiaoshuai.
“If only it were that simple.” Xiaoshuai felt his heart twist in pain.
“The knowledge in that book only works while you’re holding the book itself. Without it, the text is no different from incoherent nonsense. Why do you think I handed over a fake copy back then?”
“Then what do we do? If this drags on, the greater Terror from the legend may appear,” Frog said fearfully.
“Don’t panic. Brother Liu should be handling it already,” John said as he drank his coffee.
“How do you know he’s involved?” Swan asked in surprise.
“Simple. Brother Liu never does anything without meaning. He would not appear at Nine Worlds Mountain for no reason. Do you think useless trash like Fox warranted a personal visit from him?
“I didn’t understand his purpose at first. Once this incident began, everything became clear. Brother Liu’s true objective was that great Terror.”
John set down his coffee and spoke calmly.
“The rest is simple. A king faces a king; a general faces a general. Leave the great Terror to Brother Liu. All we need to do is delay it as long as possible.”
“Are you certain Liu Ye can deal with something like that?” Swan asked.
It was not that she doubted Liu Ye’s strength. This incident was simply too grave. The smallest mistake could result in a nation-ending disaster.
“Director, I will say this only once.”
John rose, his expression icy.
“Never doubt Brother Liu’s abilities.”
