Chapter 30
Chapter 30
The three Fiends searched all night, and at long last, just as dawn was about to break, they found Liu Ye a job.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. Great, perfect. Thanks a ton, man. I’ll send him over this morning.”
The driver hung up and flashed an OK sign at Old Man and Shadow Fiend.
“It’s a company run by a friend of mine. He’ll be an assistant to some minor celebrity. Food and lodging included, three thousand yuan a month, and they even pay social insurance and housing fund.”
Old Man and Shadow Fiend: “…”
“Wait, isn’t that friend of yours a Fiend too? Are you sure it’s okay to screw him over like this?”
“How is that screwing him over? Liu Ye won’t be dealing with my friend directly. His immediate boss will be that celebrity. If anyone gets screwed, it’ll be him,” the driver said.
“But can he really handle being a celebrity assistant?” Shadow Fiend asked, still uneasy.
“Why not? It’s not like he’ll have to do anything complicated. He’ll just be helping out with odd jobs. Most importantly, he’ll have to travel all over with the celebrity, so he won’t need to come back here to live.”
Put that way, it actually did sound pretty good.
“Right, one more thing. What do we do tomorrow when Liu asks about the tattoo?” Old Man asked.
The driver thought for a moment. Then a light bulb appeared above his head.
Early the next morning, Liu Ye stared blankly at the two huge seals pasted across the tattoo parlor’s door.
“How did this place get shut down?”
“Ahem… They were operating without a license, tattooing minors, and failed their fire safety inspection, so they got shut down,” the driver said, somewhat guiltily.
“Then they deserved it.”
Although Liu Ye felt sorry to lose the tattoo artist’s skills, when it came to matters of principle, he still knew right from wrong.
“Anyway, forget about that. Brother, I’ve noticed you’ve been in the city for a few days now without anything to do, so I found you a job. Take a look at the conditions.”
“Really? Thank you so much, big bro!”
Liu Ye was instantly excited. He grabbed the driver in a tight hug.
See? He knew there were still more good people than bad in this world. Just look-big bro had found him a place to live and now a job too. He was practically closer than an actual older brother.
Liu Ye made up his mind. In the future, he would definitely repay big bro properly.
For some reason, the driver suddenly shuddered.
Liu Ye glanced over the terms and was absolutely delighted. The benefits were way too good. He nodded and agreed on the spot.
Seeing that Liu Ye had accepted, the driver immediately took him to his friend’s company.
Ace Entertainment Company was a rather famous company in the entertainment industry, with many nationally renowned celebrities under its banner, such as Cai Ji, Ping Fan, and others.
Every one of them was a sensation in showbiz. In the news, they were always driving luxury cars, living in mansions, and surrounded by handsome men and beautiful women. Countless people envied them, all dreaming of desperately squeezing their way into that circle.
Every year, countless young men and women joined Ace Entertainment Company, and in recent years, the craze had only grown more intense.
If Liu Ye’s looks hadn’t been so undeniably average, the driver would have wanted him to become a celebrity too. After all, that line of work brought in money fast.
“We’re here.”
The two followed a staff member to the door of an office. Before they could even enter, they saw a girl come rushing out from inside, sobbing.
Then came a roar from within.
“What the hell are you people doing? Didn’t I tell you to replace her? Look at her face-she looks like a pig. Just seeing her makes me sick.”
“Fu Yang, Xiao Li has been with you since your debut, running around and working herself to the bone for you. Even if she hasn’t achieved anything great, she’s still put in years of hard work. If you replace her just like that, how is she supposed to work in the future?” a woman’s voice inside said helplessly.
“What do I care how she works? I’ve been putting up with her for more than a day or two. I’m telling you, I never want to see her again for the rest of my life. You have to get me someone pretty. Otherwise, I’m not going to today’s event.”
Tap, tap, tap…
A staff member knocked on the door, then pushed it open and walked right in.
Liu Ye stepped inside and saw a very handsome young man. At the moment, though, that handsome face was twisted with irritation.
A cigarette dangled from his mouth, filling the office with a smoky haze. This was Liu Ye’s assignment this time: Fu Yang.
Beside him sat a woman wearing glasses-his agent. She was on the sofa, peeling an apple.
“Ms. Wu, this is the new assistant the company assigned to Brother Fu. Little Liu.”
Fu Yang looked up at that. The moment he saw Liu Ye, he picked up the ashtray on the desk and smashed it onto the floor.
“What the hell is the company trying to say? Are they looking down on me? I said I wanted someone pretty. What is this supposed to be?”
“Brother Fu, this was the chairman’s decision. Telling me won’t help,” the staff member said apologetically.
The instant Fu Yang heard it was the chairman’s order, his temper vanished. He sat back on the sofa and kept smoking.
When the agent heard that this person had been sent over by the chairman, she immediately came over with a beaming smile, casually setting down the knife in her hand.
“You’re Little Liu, right? Oh, come here, come here.”
Liu Ye walked over, looking utterly clueless.
“I don’t need to introduce him, do I? You should know who he is,” the agent said with a smile.
“No, I don’t,” Liu Ye said, shaking his head.
Fu Yang: “…”
The agent: “…”
The driver: “…”
“Ahaha… Well, really, it doesn’t matter if you don’t know him now. You will soon enough. Our Yangyang is very popular. His dramas are all over TV.”
“I don’t watch TV,” Liu Ye said.
The agent: “…”
The driver covered his face. He was starting to lose confidence in Liu Ye’s new job.
At this point, all he could do was hope Liu Ye managed to last a little longer. No matter what, the guy had to earn some money.
After giving Liu Ye a few reminders, the driver turned and left.
He still had something to take care of.
After returning to the apartment, the driver went down to the basement. At that moment, a fat man was tied to a table.
When the man saw the driver come in, he began struggling nonstop.
…
Back on Liu Ye’s side, the agent left first because she had something to do, leaving only Liu Ye and Fu Yang in the room.
Fu Yang looked at the hopelessly unfashionable Liu Ye, and anger flared in his chest again and again. How had the company found someone like this to be his assistant? He wasn’t even as good as the last one.
If he didn’t vent this anger, it was going to drive him crazy. His eyes shifted, and he said to Liu Ye, “Come with me.”
With that, he got up and headed out. Liu Ye followed behind him. The two of them arrived at the gym, and Fu Yang tossed Liu Ye a pair of boxing gloves.
“Spar with me.”
When Liu Ye heard that, he quickly waved his hands.
“I can’t, Brother Fu. I’m really strong.”
Fu Yang looked at Liu Ye’s build and said disdainfully, “I’m a taekwondo black belt. You think I’m scared of you? Really strong, huh? In a minute, I’ll have you on your knees begging me. Come on!”
Fu Yang threw a few punches, and his movements did look rather powerful.
“Come on, come on! Hit me! Hit me! Go on, hit me!”
Liu Ye had no choice but to throw a punch.
Bang!
The punch landed squarely on Fu Yang’s head, and his whole body stiffened before he collapsed to the floor.
Liu Ye: “…”
“Bro, don’t scare me! It’s my first day on the job! Don’t do this to me! Bro, I’m begging you, don’t die!” Liu Ye knelt on the floor, holding Fu Yang as he shouted anxiously.
