Chapter 89
Chapter 89
A few days later, Old Man and the other Fiends gathered in the basement, looking utterly haggard.
Liu Ye hadn’t gone out these past few days. He had been staying home to research cooking for them, and eating what he made was about the same as drinking sulfuric acid. They didn’t have the energy left to find Liu Ye a job.
“We can’t let him stay here anymore. If this keeps up, we’re all going to die! Get him outside. I don’t care what he does, as long as he doesn’t stay home,” the Driver said weakly.
The rest of the Fiends nodded like mad.
“But what excuse do we use to make him go out?” Shadow Fiend asked.
All the Fiends fell silent.
And then…
At that moment, the newly arrived Yellow Hair’s eyes suddenly lit up.
“Seniors, actually, we’ve all been looking at this the wrong way.”
“Oh? How so?” The Fiends immediately looked at him.
“Isn’t the reason Teacher Liu is living here because he has no money? Then we just need to make him rich, right?” Yellow Hair said.
The Fiends had thought he had some brilliant plan, but it turned out to be this.
“That’s why we need him to go work!” Shadow Fiend said.
“That’s way too slow. You have to remember, there are plenty of ways in this world to get rich overnight,” Yellow Hair said.
“How could it be that easy? You know what his personality is like. He won’t do even the tiniest bad thing. Shady business is out of the question. Everything else either depends on luck or we don’t have the opportunity!”
Clap!
Yellow Hair slapped his hands together and said excitedly, “Exactly. If there’s no opportunity, we can create one!”
As soon as he said that, the Fiends froze. Then they were overjoyed. Right! That was a great idea. They could set up a trap and let Liu Ye get the money!
The group immediately huddled together and began whispering.
That afternoon, Liu Ye came back from grocery shopping. As he passed by the park, he heard someone shouting.
“Ring toss! Ring toss right here! Grand prize of one million! Ring toss! Ring toss!”
Liu Ye turned his head, took one look, and walked straight away.
The Fiends hiding in the dark: “…”
“Why isn’t he going over? Look, everyone else has gone crazy for it!” Yellow Hair said anxiously.
“I’ll go take a look!” the Driver said.
Then he pretended to run into Liu Ye by chance.
“Hey, bro! Where are you going?”
“I’m going to play ring toss! Didn’t you see the prize is one million? What if I win?” The Driver put extra emphasis on the word win.
Who would’ve thought Liu Ye would hurriedly grab him and stop him?
“Bro, you can’t touch that kind of thing. Brother Guiwa said you must never get involved with drugs, gambling, or prostitution.”
The Driver: “…”
“No, this thing only costs two bucks. What if you win?”
“Bro, that’s exactly what everyone who gets scammed thinks.”
The Driver: “…”
Damn it, you’re way too vigilant!
After that, no matter what the Driver said, Liu Ye refused to go. That method could be considered a failure. But they didn’t give up, because the direction was right.
The Fiends gathered together again, and the Driver immediately said, “What that kid just said reminded me of something. What if we find him a girlfriend? As the saying goes, a sheer cliff stands firm because it has no desires! The reason he’s so invincible right now is because he has no attachments. So we just need to give him an attachment!”
The Fiends: “…”
“Bro, come on. He’s got no money, no house, no job, and he’s average-looking. What girl would be into him?” Shadow Fiend said helplessly.
“Tch, if you put it that way, nobody would ever date anyone. Not every girl cares about those things. We’ll find someone young and inexperienced, set up a classic hero-saves-the-beauty scene, and she’ll be his for sure,” the Driver said meaningfully.
And so, near Rose Apartment, the Driver hid in the shadows and watched Liu Ye standing at the street corner. He had told Liu Ye that the supermarket would have a special on eggs at eight o’clock tonight, and that was how he’d managed to lure Liu Ye out.
He picked up the walkie-talkie.
“Shadow, is everything ready on your end?”
“Ready. The target is on his way.”
“Yellow Hair, are you ready?”
“Ready. Everyone’s in position.”
“Good. Get ready. Begin!”
“Ahhh!!! Help!!!”
A scream tore through the air. Liu Ye, who had been waiting on the street corner to buy eggs, heard the cry for help and rushed over without a second thought.
When he reached the alley, he saw a masked man holding a knife and glaring viciously at a young woman.
“Stop! What do you think you’re doing?!” Liu Ye roared.
When the masked thug saw Liu Ye, he knew the target had arrived and it was time to move the plot along. He immediately said, “What? You trying to stick your nose where it doesn’t belong, kid? Do you know who I am? I’m-ow!”
Before he could finish his line, Liu Ye kicked him straight to the ground, then started stomping him from head to toe. The beating made him howl in pain.
Bro, wait, this force isn’t right! If you’re hitting this hard, that’s going to cost extra! He looked toward a certain corner in grief and outrage, only to see the Driver take out a thick stack of cash.
“…”
If that was the price, then he was going all in!
The thug immediately stopped even trying to cover his face. In fact, he actively leaned into Liu Ye’s fists.
A few minutes later, the thug was unconscious. Liu Ye took out a rope and tied him up, then turned back to the girl.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. Thank you.” The girl’s expression was a little tense. She bowed to Liu Ye, then hurried away. Liu Ye didn’t pay it any mind. He grabbed the guy on the ground and headed for the police station. He had to hurry, or he would miss the supermarket’s egg discount later.
“No, wait, she just left? Isn’t a life-saving favor supposed to be repaid with marriage?” the Driver said in shock.
“That’s only if she likes him. If she doesn’t, it’s ‘I can never repay your life-saving grace, so in my next life I’ll be your ox or horse to repay you,'” Yellow Hair said with a sigh.
“This is about this life! Why are you dragging the next life into it? Who’s going to know you in the next life?!” the Driver snapped.
“What’s the point of telling me? Look at Teacher. He’s so young, but he dresses like a middle-aged uncle from the northeast. If I were a woman, I wouldn’t want to either,” Yellow Hair said.
Everyone looked at Liu Ye’s appearance and sighed inwardly. The Driver was especially exasperated. If the girl wasn’t going to take the initiative, then Liu Ye should! Go after her!
As the old saying went, even the fiercest woman feared a persistent suitor. So go be persistent! What was the use of staring at eggs all day?
Could eggs spend the rest of their life with him?
They were on the verge of collapse, thinking this attempt had failed again.
But unexpectedly, that night, things took a turn.
“What? You want to ask Liu Ye out? Great, great, great, I’ll tell him right away! Tell me the place. Okay, okay…”
The Driver hung up and pumped his fist hard.
“I told you the hero-saving-the-beauty routine works! She was just shy, that’s all. Look, now she’s asking Liu Ye out! Hahaha…”
“Yesterday you said you wanted to eat her,” Shadow Fiend said with a curled lip.
“That was a misunderstanding! I’ll go tell him the news right now!”
The Driver ran upstairs excitedly. Old Man and the others breathed a sigh of relief. At last, they could have a few quiet days. But before they could be happy for long, they heard the Driver’s roar from upstairs.
“You’re not going?! Why not?!”
A moment later, the Driver stormed back down, his chest heaving violently.
“Bro, why won’t he go?” Shadow Fiend asked.
“Could it be that he’s embarrassed because it’s his first date with a girl?” Old Man said.
“Maybe he has social anxiety?” Yellow Hair said.
“So what exactly is the reason?”
With red eyes, the Driver said, “The supermarket downstairs is giving away free eggs tomorrow!”
All the Fiends: “…”
