Chapter 32

This was the first time he had ever received a Fixed Mission to protect someone. In his estimation, this mission probably wasn’t going to be simple. If these people died, it would likely lead to some fairly serious consequences.

But there was no point overthinking it now. As it happened, one of the targets was someone he knew, so he simply asked that person to meet him.

“Brother Zhao, what brings you out today? You actually had time to ask me out?”

A young, fashionably dressed woman sat down across from John. Miss Zhang, who was wrapped around John’s neck, instantly bared a vicious expression.

“You bastard! That shameless little slut is trying to seduce you! Kill her!!!”

Expressionless, John pressed Miss Zhang down, then said to the woman in front of him, “I’ll get straight to the point. Someone wants to kill you. I’m here this time to protect you.”

“Kill me? Pfft. Brother Zhao, you’re hilarious. If you want to ask me out, just say so. Did you really have to come up with an excuse like that?” Huang Shiya said, amused.

John said nothing. He picked up his coffee and gestured toward the café’s television.

“Breaking news…”

The earlier report played again. Huang Shiya looked completely baffled.

“What does something happening to him have to do with me?”

“Fu Yang, Zhao Ze, Huang Shiya, Lyu Jicheng, Zhao Na, and Xie Baoguo. Six people in total. I’m sure that should make you think of something. I found out that a few days ago, you all seemed to have gone somewhere together. My guess is that you did something and offended something. If nothing unexpected happens, all of you will die.”

Huang Shiya’s expression immediately turned ugly. After all, no one would be in a good mood after having their private matters dug up for no reason. Still, she didn’t quite believe him.

“We did go out, but we were just having fun. We didn’t offend anyone. Why would anyone want to kill me?”

“I never said the thing trying to kill you was human.”

“That’s ridiculous. If it’s not human, what else could it be? A Fiend?”

John raised his coffee to her in a small salute.

“Congratulations. You got it right.”

“Tch. Brother Zhao, if you want to ask me out, you can do that anytime. But I’m not going to sit here listening to all this nonsense. Sorry, I need to use the restroom.”

With that, she stood and headed toward the restroom.

“Aren’t you going to stop her? At a time like this, being alone is very dangerous.”

Miss Zhang’s head rubbed against John’s cheek. As a Fiend herself, she knew all too well what Fiends were capable of.

“Stopping her won’t help. Unless she sees it with her own eyes, she won’t believe me.”

Inside the restroom, Huang Shiya looked at herself in the mirror. Perhaps it was because John’s words had scared her, but she suddenly felt uneasy, as though she had forgotten something.

“Crack!”

The mirror abruptly shattered, scaring Huang Shiya half to death. And then, at that moment, she suddenly saw the version of herself in the mirror smiling at her.

The her in the mirror took out a lipstick and wrote on the glass:

“Welcome to the Fiendish World!”

[Ding! Novice Mission activated!]

[Mission: Oblivion]

[Mission Objective: Escape the Grim Reaper’s pursuit.]

[Mission Reward 1: 200 points]

[Mission Reward 2: 300 EXP]

[Mission Reward 3: Fierce Ghost-quality random item x1. Random-quality item or skill x1]

At the sight of this, Huang Shiya was completely dumbfounded. Her body began trembling uncontrollably.

Then she bolted out of the restroom in a panic. When she saw John still sitting there, she immediately rushed over.

“Won the lottery?”
Huang Shiya was so frightened she couldn’t speak. All she could do was nod frantically.

John picked up a cup of coffee he had prepared beforehand and kept adding sugar to it.

“Don’t panic. Panic won’t solve anything. Only by staying calm will you survive.”

He pushed the coffee in front of Huang Shiya and gestured for her to drink.

Huang Shiya hurriedly picked it up and took a gulp. The moment it entered her mouth, a sickening, cloying sweetness flooded her tongue, nearly making her throw up.

Still, it did help her calm down a little.

“Wh-what do we do now?”

“We go to the hospital first and find that celebrity.”

John looked at the tablet. Aside from that celebrity, there was also a young man dressed in an extremely old-fashioned way.

Back when he first saw the news, he had recognized Liu Ye at a glance.

Only after learning that this big shot was participating too did he finally feel much more at ease.

With that big shot around, completing the mission wouldn’t be a problem. What he needed to consider next was how to perform well in front of him.

The two paid the bill and headed out.

But the moment they stepped outside, a light breeze blew past, and Miss Zhang, who was attached to John, immediately shouted,

“Watch out!”

“Boom!”

A large truck suddenly lost control and came barreling straight toward the two of them.

Fortunately, in that instant, Miss Zhang on John yanked them both aside.

The truck slammed directly into the coffee shop and then exploded.

In the blink of an eye, the entire coffee shop turned into a sea of flames.

“Hey, hey, hey, isn’t this a bit much? What a waste.”

Miss Zhang stared at the situation inside the shop, drool running from the corner of her mouth.

John’s expression, however, was extremely grim.

He had figured out what the most dangerous part of this mission was. If every danger caused by the Fiend this time was on such a massive scale, then all sides of the real world definitely wouldn’t just sit back and do nothing. When that happened, other uncontrollable entities were bound to appear.

“Move! Get in the car. Call those people and tell them to go to the hospital.”

John pulled Huang Shiya, who had gone limp on the ground, into his car, then sped toward the hospital.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Fu Yang was boredly watching TV. By now, he had calmed down a lot. Since the situation could no longer be changed, all he could do was endure it.

What made him uncomfortable, however, was that he kept feeling like he had forgotten something-and whatever he had forgotten was extremely important to him. But no matter what, he couldn’t remember what it was.

Just as he was growing irritated, a spoon appeared beside his mouth.

“Thanks.”

Fu Yang subconsciously took a spoonful. Then he sensed something was off and turned his head, only to see Liu Ye smiling beside him.

“Why haven’t you left yet?! Didn’t I tell you to leave?!”

Fu Yang broke down.

“I have to protect you. Besides, Brother Yang, I took the money. My job is to take good care of you.”

Fu Yang pursed his lips and lay back down on the bed. Liu Ye brought the spoon to Fu Yang’s mouth again, but Fu Yang impatiently pushed it away.

“I’m not drinking… Wait, what is this stuff? Why does it smell so weird?”

With an innocent look on his face, Liu Ye said, “I don’t know. I saw it by your bedside cabinet, so I brought it over for you to eat.”

Just then, another patient came in, looked around, and scratched his head.

“Have either of you seen the food container I use to soak my dentures?”

Liu Ye: “…”

Fu Yang: “…”

“Blaaargh!!!”
