Chapter 5
Chapter 5
A moment later, the driver returned to his seat with a satisfied expression. He tucked away his short blade and wiped the bits of shredded meat from the corner of his mouth before driving onward.
The carnage in the back of the car gradually merged into the interior, and within moments, the vehicle looked exactly as it had before. However, the stench of blood and filth lingered, refusing to dissipate.
Having enjoyed a full meal, the driver intended to continue searching for his next target.
It was then that he suddenly spotted someone standing by the side of the road, looking quite miserable as they took shelter from the rain.
The driver looked over and saw it was a man. Although he preferred the delicate texture of a woman’s flesh, he didn’t mind changing his palate once in a while.
Without a second thought, he drove over and pulled up in front of the person.
Liu Ye was currently feeling extremely depressed. He had just clicked that button and ended up being teleported out. Before he could even figure out what was going on, a torrential downpour had started, soaking him to the bone.
Fortunately, there was a tree nearby. Though it wasn’t very large, and he was still chilled to the core even while standing under the canopy, it at least provided some semblance of shelter.
Just as he was feeling helpless, a car suddenly stopped in front of him.
Liu Ye froze for a second, then looked at the vehicle with pleasant surprise. He had seen these things on television; he thought they were called taxis.
Seeing the driver stop in front of him, he assumed he was being invited in. Mimicking the movements he’d seen on TV, he opened the door and sat inside.
The moment he got in, the driver slammed on the gas and took off. The car sped down the highway.
“Oh, wow, thank you so much, Big Brother!”
Liu Ye spoke excitedly. Following the example of people on TV, he buckled his seatbelt.
Then, he began looking around at the car’s interior decorations.
“Man, this is really nice. These seats are way more comfortable than the tractor back in our village.”
He patted this and poked that, acting like a total country bumpkin. The driver looked at him with utter disdain; he hadn’t expected to pick up a hillbilly from the sticks. Still, he didn’t mind. Country folk were fine too-their meat was firm.
Of course, before the meal, he had to follow the old routine and scare him. After all, meat seasoned with terror tasted much better.
As he was thinking this, he didn’t pay attention to Liu Ye’s movements. After all, the guy was already in his car; where could he possibly run?
Liu Ye’s attention was currently fixed on a long handle next to him. There was a small button on top of it.
Men simply couldn’t resist handle-shaped objects like that.
“What’s this?”
Liu Ye instinctively grabbed the long handle and gave it a sharp pull.
*Screeech!!!*
The speeding taxi performed a violent fishtail and slammed into the guardrail with a loud bang.
Fortunately, Liu Ye was wearing his seatbelt. Unfortunately, the driver wasn’t. And so…
Liu Ye watched as a dark shadow blurred past him, smashed through the windshield, and went flying out.
“Big Brother!!!”
Liu Ye scrambled out of the car to check on the driver.
Luckily, the driver wasn’t actually human, so being launched out of the car didn’t really hurt him. However, the shards of broken glass from the windshield left him in a pathetic state.
Because the car was a Fiendish Item, it was capable of causing him actual harm.
Liu Ye rushed over, only to be startled by the sight of the driver’s face covered in glass shards.
“Big Brother… are… are you okay?” Liu Ye asked cautiously.
“…What do you think? Why don’t you try flying out yourself! I was driving! Why the hell did you pull the handbrake?!” the driver roared.
“No, Big Brother, I’m really sorry. I didn’t know.”
Liu Ye spoke with deep guilt. He really shouldn’t have let his hands wander.
He hurried over, hauled the driver up, and helped him back into the car.
“Big Brother, in your condition, can you still drive? How about I take over?” Liu Ye asked worriedly.
The driver: “…”
How the hell did a guy who didn’t even know what a handbrake was have the face to say that?
“Just sit your ass down right there!”
“Oh, okay.”
Liu Ye quickly sat back in his seat.
The driver let out a long breath. Just as he was about to start the ignition, something occurred to him, and he immediately buckled his seatbelt. Damn it-this kid had seriously given him a mental shadow.
He glanced forward. Well, looks like he didn’t even need the wipers this time… just burned through a few towels.
The driver wiped his face and hurriedly stopped the rain outside. The rain was part of his ability-he could release it or stop it whenever he wanted.
After pulling the rain back, he shot a look at the guy beside him and turned on the speakers.
“That night, I hurt you… that night, you left me shattered…”
“Our heads nestled together as we fell asleep…”
Music rang out again, but the sound coming from the speakers wasn’t quite the same as before.
As it sang, it suddenly sucked in a cold breath here and there-clearly the earlier crash had been agony for the car, too.
It couldn’t be helped. Smashing into a mountain was no big deal, but the driver smashing into the car was a huge deal. They were both Fiends-hurting each other was the most painful kind of pain.
And at that moment, the driver started his act.
“You know, I once had a beautiful wife.”
Crunch, crunch.
“We were deeply in love.”
Crunch, crunch.
“Then… the two of us…”
Crunch, crunch!
“…”
Crunch, crunch!
“…”
“Cru-”
“Can you not eat while I’m talking?!” the driver roared again.
Then he slapped the speaker hard and barked, “Just listen-this music, this atmosphere-does it make any sense for you to be gnawing on a green onion right now?”
The whole car reeked of green onion. There went the mood.
“Then… I’ll eat an apple?” Liu Ye asked carefully.
The driver took a deep breath.
“Can you just listen to me and stop eating?”
“Oh, okay. Go on, go on.”
Liu Ye sat properly in his seat.
The driver let out a long breath and tried to sync up with the music again.
“…”
“Where was I?”
“You two…”
“Oh, right. The two of us…”
The driver’s face sank back into gloom as he continued.
“We loved each other very much. I loved her so much I loved her more than myself. I loved everything about her!”
“Even her taking a dump?”
“Well, not that, because when my wife took a dump it really was kind of-”
“Your wife’s dumps are the ones that stink like hell!!!” the driver screamed, face red and neck thick, veins popping on his forehead.
Liu Ye shrank his head back, looking wronged. You were the one who said it-I didn’t say anything.
The driver let out a long breath. Damn it, this bastard kid had dragged him off track again.
Fine. No more beating around the bush. He’d kill this kid as fast as possible!
“My wife cheated on me!”
“Then bomb her with four deuces!” Liu Ye said, slapping his thigh.
“Get out of the car!” the driver yelled, eyes wide.
“Uh, sorry. I just… you looked too sad, so I wanted to liven things up a bit. Go on, keep talking,” Liu Ye hurriedly said.
“Do you know what I did after I found out she cheated?”
The driver showed a twisted smile, quietly drawing a sharp knife with his left hand.
The moment he turned his head, his expression stiffened.
Liu Ye was holding a Hunting Rifle, wiping it down over and over. And at a glance, the driver could tell that gun was a Fiendish Item-one of a very high level.
