Chapter 19
Chapter 19
“What are you thinking? I’m saying we should go to the Bride’s room and see if there’s anything we can help with. You saw the state of those people out there-do you really expect them to be of any use?”
Liu Ye spoke helplessly.
*I think expecting anything from you is an even bigger disaster,* Baolong thought to himself. However, he didn’t dare say it out loud and simply followed him to the Bride’s room.
Liu Ye even politely knocked on the door.
“Hey, little sister! Is it convenient? I’m coming in, okay?”
Baolong: “…”
That sounded incredibly awkward.
By all accounts, since she hadn’t married yet, she wasn’t supposed to see outside men. But Liu Ye was a different breed of beast; in his countryside home, there weren’t that many rules. With a loud *thud*, he pushed the door open and walked right in.
Baolong didn’t dare stop him, so he could only follow him inside.
Once inside, they saw two people in the room. One was sitting by the bed with a bridal veil over her head, while the other stood to the side with a face full of terror.
“Wang Weiwei!”
Baolong was somewhat surprised. He thought this woman was already dead, but to his surprise, she was still alive.
When Wang Weiwei saw Liu Ye and the other man, she immediately became agitated.
Just as she was about to speak, she heard Liu Ye say angrily, “No, I say, why are you just standing there like an idiot? Don’t you know what time it is? My god, you haven’t done a single thing! I knew I couldn’t count on you people.”
Liu Ye saw that the Bride’s clothes were still tattered and she hadn’t even put on her Wedding Gown.
He was fuming. These people were hosting them with good food and wine, yet she hadn’t helped with anything. This was simply not the way to do things.
“Hey, has the Bride’s makeup been done yet?” Liu Ye asked.
“Huh?”
Wang Weiwei looked at him, bewildered. What makeup?
“Oh, for heaven’s sake.”
Liu Ye felt a headache coming on. *You’re going to ruin the schedule.*
Then, seeing her mournful expression, he felt a wave of irritation. Someone was getting married, yet she had a face like her mother just died-who was she trying to show that to?
Left with no choice, he had to figure something out himself. Liu Ye thought it was lucky he came; otherwise, this wedding might not even happen.
He walked straight over to the Bride.
“Listen, little sister, I’ll take the liberty of calling you that. Let’s take off the veil first, and I’ll do your makeup for you.”
Wang Weiwei’s eyes nearly popped out of her head. This guy was playing a dangerous game-applying makeup to a Fiend?
Liu Ye saw that the other party didn’t respond. He thought for a moment and then realized-perhaps the young bride was shy. Besides, it was indeed a bit inappropriate for a grown man like him to be doing this.
“Little sister, I know it’s a bit improper, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Let’s just be understanding. Since you’re not saying anything, I’ll take that as a yes.”
As he spoke, he reached out and lifted the Bride’s veil.
In that instant, Wang Weiwei and Baolong nearly stopped breathing.
Beneath the veil was a face of pure Terror. Her eyes and mouth had been sewn shut with thread. The flesh on her face was turned inside out, revealing the red raw meat beneath, where white maggots occasionally writhed and rolled.
Seeing this scene, Wang Weiwei almost threw up.
Liu Ye, however, acted as if he hadn’t seen anything unusual, though his expression was somewhat grave.
“Little sister, I’ve got to say, your skin is in pretty bad shape. It’s peeling like crazy. Haven’t you thought about getting it treated? Let me tell you, a woman has to take care of herself.”
Baolong and Wang Weiwei: “…”
As soon as Liu Ye spoke, the Bride suddenly moved. Both of her hands lunged toward Liu Ye’s neck.
In that split second, Baolong and Wang Weiwei’s hearts leapt into their throats. Wang Weiwei was even about to scream.
But in that same instant, Liu Ye’s movements were even faster than hers.
He reached out and grabbed her wrists in a firm grip.
“Oh, sister, your nails just won’t do. You’re getting married, and if you look like this, people will talk. Hey, Brother Long, hurry up and bring me my bag.”
Wang Weiwei was dumbfounded. This guy was a total beast. She could see the Bride’s Fiendish arms trembling, veins bulging as she struggled, yet she simply could not break free from Liu Ye’s grip.
Baolong, however, was already used to it and brought Liu Ye’s bundle over immediately.
“Brother, uh… have you ever done a manicure before?”
As soon as those words left his mouth, Liu Ye’s body stiffened. Then he spoke up.
“Uh… of course I have! Why wouldn’t I? I’m telling you, and I’m not bragging, back in our village, I did the nails for everyone!”
In truth, he had never done one. But he had seen it on TV, and he figured it was just hammering and clipping-probably not much different from shoeing a horse back in the village.
Even if that was the case, he couldn’t actually say it out loud. Brother Guiwa once told him that when venturing out into society, if you have three parts talent, you have to brag like you have seven, so people don’t look down on you. As for the remaining ninety parts… well, that’s up to fate!
Though he had never trimmed fingernails, when it came to shoeing horses, he was the village expert.
For some reason, the Bride suddenly shivered, and her struggles became even more violent.
“Don’t move! This will be quick!”
Liu Ye pulled out a pair of handcuffs and snapped them onto the Bride’s wrists. In an instant, the Bride went completely still.
[Fiendish Item: Mana-Binding Cuffs]
[Type: Support]
[Quality: Red-Clad]
[Effect: Nullifies all phenomena that exceed common sense.]
[Consumption: None]
[Remarks: Catch me, and if you catch me, I’ll let you… hehehe!]
Baolong looked at the handcuffs on the Bride, and he nearly started drooling. Although he couldn’t see the specific attributes, the surging Yin energy emanating from them told him this was no ordinary object. He glanced at the Hunting Rifle on Liu Ye’s back and then asked cautiously.
“Big brother, if I may ask, what line of work are you in?”
“Me? I’m a farmer!”
Baolong: “…”
*Big brother, are you sure you’re a ‘normal’ farmer?*
At this moment, Liu Ye was also feeling a bit unsure. He really hadn’t studied manicuring, but he was being forced into it now. He certainly couldn’t count on the two useless ones behind him.
After thinking for a moment, he pulled out a knife used for trimming horse hooves.
In that instant, both humans and the one Fiend in the room were shocked. Although the Bride’s eyes were sewn shut, she wasn’t completely blind.
Upon seeing that tool, her struggles became even more frantic.
“Big Brother!!!” Baolong shouted instinctively.
Liu Ye jumped, nearly chopping the Bride’s hand off. He turned around angrily and yelled.
“What is it now? I’m trying to work here. Can you stop being so jumpy? You almost caused an accident!”
“No, Big Brother… it’s just that your manicure tool is… it’s, uh, it’s quite unique.”
“Have you ever had a manicure?” Liu Ye asked, suddenly feeling a bit defensive.
“No.”
As soon as he heard the ‘no,’ Liu Ye’s confidence surged back.
“If you’ve never had one, then what are you talking for? Who’s the professional here, you or me?”
*I don’t know if I’m a professional, but I’m damn sure you aren’t!*
Liu Ye turned back, lined the tool up against the Bride’s hand, and then slammed it down with force.
*Crack!*
A crisp sound echoed. The long nail on the Bride’s thumb came off cleanly.
“See? Perfect!”
*Squelch…*
A stream of black blood sprayed out from the base of the nail.
Liu Ye: “…”
Baolong and Wang Weiwei: “…”
