No. 1 slowly opened his eyes. For some reason, the breeze against his body felt rather chilly.

He snapped fully awake and discovered that he had been tied up and stripped bare. The sound of digging came steadily from nearby.
He jerked his head around and saw Liu Ye holding a shovel, a broad smile across his face.
“Brother, you’re awake.”
“What are you trying to do? Untie me! I’m warning you, this is against the law! Do you understand? Y-you have such a bright future ahead of you. Don’t do anything foolish!” No. 1 babbled in panic.
Liu Ye looked confused.
“Brother, have you misunderstood something? I would never break the law,” he hurriedly explained.
“Then why did you tie me up?”
“Oh, well, we’re playing a game of hide-and-seek. Some people are ‘it,’ and the rest of us have to hide. I wanted to make a few traps and catch them off guard.”
“I see. So I’m the bait,” No. 1 said darkly.
“Wow, Brother, you’re really smart!”
“Smart, my ass! Untie me!” No. 1 roared.
Liu Ye hurriedly released him. No. 1 rubbed his wrists and almost punched Liu Ye on the spot, but then the memories from before he lost consciousness returned. He immediately abandoned that hazardous idea.

No. 1 chased Liu Ye in a frenzy. Before long, however, both men heard a noise and ducked into hiding at the same time.
A woman in an evening gown walked toward them, a bloodstained dinner knife in her hand.
Her once-expensive gown had been torn to ribbons, exposing broad swaths of skin underneath.
She did not care in the slightest. Drool ran from her mouth as she giggled.
Her once-beautiful face was now twisted with madness.
“Hee-hee… There’s no point hiding. I already saw you. Hurry… hurry up and let me kill you. You’re the last two I need to finish the mission! Hahahaha…”
No. 1’s expression instantly turned grave. He had already seen the Fiendish World’s mission rules.
Ordinarily, No. 1 could have beaten a hundred women like her without breaking a sweat. But Escapees were forbidden from harming Killers, which made the situation genuinely troublesome.

He stripped off his clothes and walked into the open.
The woman was delighted when she saw someone emerge. Then she got a clear look at him and froze.

No. 1 paid no attention. He charged while whipping the clothes at her.

The woman shrieked, spun around, and fled. No. 1 pursued her with wild abandon.

Liu Ye stared after him.

At that moment, another man crept up behind Liu Ye. Liu Ye swung his shovel without looking. Its payload sailed through the air in a graceful arc and smacked squarely into the man’s face.
The forest fell silent for one beat.
Then a piercing scream tore through the trees.

“Sir! We encountered fierce resistance in the forest!”
A bodyguard burst into the base, terror written across his face.
“Resistance? Is this some kind of joke?” Fox Mask snapped. “They can’t hurt you. What are you afraid of?”
Then he frowned.
“How many of them are there?”
“Two!”
“Two men have left all of you helpless? You’re a pack of worthless idiots!” Fox Mask shouted.
“Sir, this really isn’t our fault. They may not be able to harm us physically, but the damage they’ve done to our minds is profound,” the bodyguard said miserably.
“Enough nonsense. Put the surveillance feed on.”
The bodyguard had no choice but to open the feed.
A crowd stood rooted to the spot, fear on every face.
“What are you doing? Charge! There are two Escapees waiting to be taken. Do none of you want to finish the mission?” Fox Mask yelled.
Then the camera shifted, and he understood.
Opposite the crowd stood two lunatics, each clutching a pile of ammunition and hurling it with everything they had. Dung bombs rained down in a relentless barrage, stopping every Killer in their tracks.
Fox Mask covered his eyes, unable to bear the sight.
He had no idea how No. 1 had become an Escapee, but he no longer had the energy to think about it.
“Leave them alone for now. It should be better by tomorrow,” Fox Mask said flatly.
