Chapter 22
Chapter 22
The moment Wang Weiwei’s voice rang out, Liu Ye was so startled that he couldn’t help but shout.
“Holy crap!”
The second he spoke, a crisp crack echoed through the air, and the invisible restraints holding everyone in place instantly vanished.
John immediately lit his Oil Lamp and hurled it toward Wang Weiwei.
“Catch!”
Wang Weiwei caught the Oil Lamp, her face turning deathly pale.
However, that single action was enough to knock the Bride aside, bringing the wedding ceremony to a grinding halt.
Xiaoshuai and the Worker quickly moved to John’s side.
By now, Steward Wang’s expression was incredibly unsightly.
“What do you think you’re doing?!”
“Just as I thought…”
John glanced at Wang Weiwei again. It seemed highly likely that the Bride was on their side; the fact that Wang Weiwei had survived this long was proof enough.
That stupid woman didn’t have the brains to avoid breaking a Taboo on her own.
In that case, the true mastermind had to be him.
John looked at Steward Wang, whose face was now so dark it looked like it was about to drip ink.
Wang Weiwei spoke up rapidly.
“Don’t let him finish the wedding, or we’ll all die!”
“Hmph. Now, you’re going to die anyway!”
Steward Wang growled as a surge of yin energy erupted from his body. He pulled out a book.
Then, he barked toward the side, “What are you waiting for?”
*Puchi!*
In a shocking turn of events, Xiaoshuai and the Worker both plunged their blades into John at the same time.
“You… you two…” John looked at them in disbelief.
“Sorry…” Xiaoshuai said with a smile, putting more force into his grip to drive the knife deeper.
Time wound back to earlier, while Liu Ye and the others were busy working. Xiaoshuai had secretly sought out Steward Wang.
“Instead of helping, why have you come to me?” Steward Wang had asked, his voice raspy.
It was a grating, unpleasant sound, like a sharp blade scraping against a blackboard.
“I’m here to get something,” Xiaoshuai said with a grin.
Hearing Xiaoshuai’s words, the steward fell silent for a moment before looking at him with cold eyes.
“You’re quite bold. Aren’t you afraid I’ll kill you right now?”
“I wouldn’t have come here unprepared, of course.”
Xiaoshuai reached out and produced an Embroidery Needle. Upon seeing it, Steward Wang’s expression changed instantly.
“You wouldn’t want this to be handed over to that woman, would you? If that happens, you’re finished.”
“If I kill you now, I can still prevent her from getting it.”
“It’s useless.”
With a sharp snap, Xiaoshuai broke the Embroidery Needle in two.
“This one is a fake. The real one is with my partner. If you kill me, that item will be delivered to that woman immediately.”
Steward Wang remained silent for a long while before speaking slowly.
“I cannot give you the original.”
“Of course. I don’t want the original; I only want a copy.”
“You must also help me complete the ritual.”
“Deal.”
Back in the present, Xiaoshuai pulled out his knife. He looked somewhat regretfully at a length of rope in his hand. This was his Fiendish Item; it could bind a person and even restrict a Fiend’s movement to a certain extent. He just didn’t know what method those people had used to break free.
“What now?” Xiaoshuai looked toward the steward.
“It doesn’t matter. As long as we kill them all, the ritual can proceed as planned!”
“Wang Lang! What is the meaning of this?!” the First Lady couldn’t help but demand.
“It’s simple. You’ve outlived your usefulness.”
“What did you say?!”
One of the hot-tempered Fiends at the banquet table stood up abruptly.
Suddenly, a tentacle shot out from the book in Steward Wang’s hand. It began to violently drain something from the creature, and within moments, that Fiend vanished from the spot.
“I suggest you all stay exactly where you are. It’ll make dying much easier for you.”
Steward Wang grinned, then began chanting an incantation. As the words left his lips, a steady stream of Yin energy from his body surged into the book.
Some Fiends tried to seize the opportunity to escape, but in an instant, the book erupted with immense pressure. It weighed down on all the Fiends, rendering them unable to move.
Steward Wang’s own aura weakened significantly, yet his face was flushed with excitement.
“Heh heh… Today, you will witness a sight you won’t see again for the rest of your lives. To die at the hands of that Great One is an honor that spans several lifetimes!”
“Hey, wait… Could it be him? You’re insane!” the Driver couldn’t help but exclaim in shock.
“Who is it?” Liu Ye asked curiously from the side.
“In ancient times, he was an existence that destroyed a small nation. A single glance from him could drive tens of thousands of people mad. He is the most dangerous, most evil Fiend, known as the Evil God…”
“Descend! Lofty Lord!!!”
Following Steward Wang’s loud cry, the scene… remained exactly as it was. Nothing happened.
Whoosh…
A light breeze blew past. All the Fiends on the scene stared at him blankly.
Steward Wang: “…”
The other Fiends: “…”
Liu Ye and the others: “…”
“Ahem, that… maybe I misread something. Wait a moment!”
Steward Wang quickly recited the incantation again, then shouted!
“Descend, Lofty Lord!!!”
“…”
Another light breeze blew past. Still, nothing happened.
“That shouldn’t be right!”
Steward Wang looked at his book in a panic. He hadn’t misread it, so why wasn’t the Lofty Lord descending?
“Um, Steward Wang…”
The Chef spoke up from the side with a look of embarrassment.
Steward Wang looked over at him.
“That Lofty Lord of yours… he was shot dead like a wild boar by that man you brought. He’s currently being stewed in the pot.”
Steward Wang: “…”
The other Fiends: “…”
Xiaoshuai: “…”
They wondered if something was wrong with their ears. What did he just say? The Lofty Lord was shot dead?
Steward Wang’s mind raced, then he burst into laughter.
“So what if you managed to destroy an avatar of the Lofty Lord? Did you think that was my only trick!”
As he spoke, he pulled out the book again, rapidly chanting an incantation before slamming it onto the ground!
A loud crack echoed from the distance. The Willow Tree in the front courtyard instantly exploded, and a coffin came tumbling out, landing on the ground with a heavy thud.
“Heh heh, this is an Iron Corpse I have nurtured for over two hundred years! Right now is the exact moment it reaches completion. Today, I shall let him begin the slaughter!”
The Driver’s face changed again.
“What is it this time?” Liu Ye asked curiously.
“This is no simple matter. This corpse was placed under a thousand-year-old Willow Tree and fed with both Fiends and humans, absorbing the essence of heaven and earth. Once its time is up, it can be said to be a calamity upon the land!”
Bang!
Just as he finished speaking, the coffin lid flew off, revealing… a pile of ash.
Steward Wang: “…”
The other Fiends: “…”
Xiaoshuai: “…”
“My Iron Corpse! Where is my massive Iron Corpse!” Steward Wang screamed, having a total breakdown.
At that moment, the Chef spoke up cautiously again.
“That man you brought said there weren’t any green vegetables, so he went to the Mother Tree to pluck some branches…”
“Even if the branches are gone, it shouldn’t have ended up like this!” Steward Wang roared.
“He also said… he was a bit short on firewood…”
Steward Wang: “…”
