Chapter 8

The moment he hung up the phone, the cell phone lying on the floor suddenly turned on by itself. It opened the contact list and dialed a number.

“Hello? Why are you calling me again? We’re finished!”

A pleasant female voice came from the other end of the line.

The man’s face paled. He opened his mouth to speak, but to his horror, his own voice began speaking through the phone instead.

“Honey, I’m sorry. I’m a scumbag. I shouldn’t have gambled, and I shouldn’t have hit you and the kids. I was wrong, truly wrong. Look, honey, listen to me. I have some things I need to tell you. I promise that after we talk, I’ll disappear from this city forever. Let’s meet one last time. I’m at an apartment in Huicheng. The address is…”

“No! Don’t come here!”

The man screamed at the top of his lungs, but his wife on the other end couldn’t hear him at all.

“Fine. I’ll listen to whatever else you have to say!”

“Don’t come here!!!”

The man roared in desperation, but the call disconnected.

He slumped against the wall, defeated. He understood the intent of this room perfectly: either he died, or his wife did.

This house was absolutely terrifying. No matter what method he used to try and leave, he would always end up back here. Moreover, the room would use every means possible to drive him to suicide.

He looked down at the phone on the floor. A map had automatically popped up on the screen, showing a small red dot moving toward his location.

He knew it was his wife, rushing toward the apartment.

“Don’t come…” the man sobbed, covering his face.

He was filled with immense regret. He had only moved into this apartment to save a bit of money. He was a scumbag, a man consumed by all five vices-drinking, gambling, whoring, and drugs. He felt that his own death didn’t matter, but his wife…

At that thought, a look of ruthless determination crossed his face. If he had to die, fine, but he would go out on his own terms and fight this bastard of a house to the bitter end!

He stumbled into the kitchen, threw open the refrigerator, and pulled out every bottle of alcohol he could find. He wrapped them in cloth and set them ablaze.

“If I’m going down, we’re all going down together!”

The man roared as he set the entire house on fire. In an instant, the apartment was transformed into a sea of flames.

The fire swept through the rooms immediately. Amidst the crackling heat, the man thought he heard a faint, monstrous roar of Terror.

A smile touched his lips as he closed his eyes and collapsed onto the floor.

Before long, the entire apartment had been reduced to charred remains.

The sound of a lock turning echoed through the hallway. Three people walked in through the front door.

“Take a look. This is the place.”

A hideously ugly Old Man entered first, carrying an Oil Lamp. Following behind him were Liu Ye and the driver.

Liu Ye walked in clutching his bundle of belongings. He looked around the apartment and saw that it was fully furnished-a sofa, a television, and a plush mattress. It had everything he had only ever seen on TV before, and he was extremely satisfied.

“This is great! Look at this sofa; you practically sink right into it.”

Liu Ye sat down on the sofa with an excited thud, bouncing up and down. “Old Man, can I really stay here for free?”

“Of course. If you don’t believe me, we can sign a contract.”

With that, the man produced a document. It was a rental agreement stating that Party A, Wu Hai, was willing to rent the property to Party B, Liu Ye, for free until such time as the tenant chose to move out voluntarily.

To any ordinary person, such a Fiend contract would clearly scream of a trap. However, Liu Ye had just come from the countryside and lacked experience with such schemes. With the driver there to vouch for the deal, he didn’t hesitate to sign his name in large, bold strokes.
The moment he signed his name, the light screen reappeared before his eyes.

[Ding! Random Mission Triggered!]

Seeing Liu Ye sign the paper, the old man smiled and placed the key on the coffee table.

“Well then, I won’t disturb your rest. Sleep well.”

With that, Old Wu headed out.

The driver glanced at Liu Ye, a cold snort echoing in his heart, though he maintained a smile on his face.

“How about that? Your big brother is a man of his word, isn’t he? I said I’d get you a place, and I got you a place.”

“Big Brother, you’re amazing! I’ll definitely pay you back someday!” Liu Ye said excitedly.

“Heh, let’s talk about that after you survive a week.”

The driver thought coldly to himself.

The rule of this house was to torture a person for a week until they were driven to suicide.

The driver figured that while he was no match for Liu Ye in a head-on confrontation, how would the kid handle this?

“I wish you sweet dreams.”

After saying that, the driver backed out of the room.

Liu Ye had been busy all day and was feeling quite tired. He pulled out a Pancake with Scallions from his bundle and ate his fill.

Soon, his eyes began to droop. Drowsily, he made his way toward the bathroom, intending to relieve himself before heading to bed.

As soon as he stepped inside, the bathroom door slammed shut on its own.

Clearly, the house had no intention of letting Liu Ye have a peaceful night.

Just as Liu Ye entered, an electrical wire dangled down from the ceiling, landing right against his neck.

At that moment, Liu Ye was just about to open the floodgates.

Splatter!

Accompanied by the sound of rushing water, a blood-curdling scream suddenly rang out in Liu Ye’s ear!

“AAAAAAAHHHH!!!!”

“Holy crap!”

The sound jolted Liu Ye wide awake. A sudden shriek like that in the middle of the night would be enough to rattle anyone.

He batted away the dangling wire and was about to head out to see what happened when a loud bang echoed through the room.

The toilet exploded. Sewage water sprayed out violently from the pipes.

“AAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!”

Liu Ye also let out a piercing scream.

He threw open the bathroom door and ran out, soaking wet.

Then he suddenly snapped to his senses. That voice just now… it sounded like the Old Man! Something might have happened to him.

The Old Man was a good person for letting him stay here for free. If something really happened, he couldn’t just ignore it!

Thinking of this, he didn’t care that he was covered in water and ran straight out.

When he reached the first floor, he saw the Old Man clutching his stomach, lying on the floor and foaming at the mouth.

The driver was crouching beside him, looking frantic.

“Big Brother, what happened?”

“You’re asking me what happened?! What did you do this time?!” the driver shouted in grief and indignation.

Liu Ye was stunned, then said in shock, “Blaming me again? Big Brother, I just got down here. I didn’t do anything!”

“What were you doing in your room?!” the driver yelled.

“I didn’t do much, I was just using the bathroom… Oh, right, the bathroom pipes exploded.”

The driver: “…”
