Chapter 243
Chapter 243
Liu Ye and Xiaoshuai, however, remained unmoved by the sight before them. Xiaoshuai had witnessed scenes far worse than this. The Illuminati’s training was no easy affair.
As for Liu Ye, he had seen all manner of dead bodies back in the village, so he was not afraid in the slightest.
“As expected of Brother Liu. You suggested the elevator because you wanted us to find this?” Xiaoshuai said admiringly.
He had smelled blood too, but he had not been certain where it came from. He had never imagined Liu Ye would identify it in an instant.
The viewers online also saw the light.
“I knew the Nuclear Warhead wouldn’t make a mistake like that. So this was why!”
“That power of observation is insane. How did he notice?”
“Only someone like that could survive in an environment like this.”
Liu Ye fell silent.
“No, I just thought taking the elevator would be more convenient.”
“I understand what you mean. You put yourself in their position and concluded that they would instinctively take the elevator, didn’t you? They were on the eighth floor. If they tried to run downstairs while panicking, their stamina might not last. The elevator would seem like a reasonable choice-at least it could separate them from the danger outside. What they failed to realize was that the true danger had been hiding among them all along.”
“So that’s it!”
“Damn! He figured all of that out in such a short time? People really aren’t created equal.”
“Wait, then why does he look so goofy?”
“Idiot! Who says every powerful person has to be handsome? That’s nothing but wishful thinking from ordinary people like you. Who says a mighty expert can’t be bald? Sob…”
Meanwhile, Xiaoshuai wedged a chair between the elevator doors and stepped inside. Large smears of blood covered the area by the entrance. Clearly, these people had tried to escape after discovering the danger, but it had already been too late.
He searched through the pieces of corpses on the floor and eventually found several phones. Every one of them was still recording.
“Why were their phones recording?”
“Some people say you can see ghosts by filming them like this.”
“Then that means the ghost was among them!”
Xiaoshuai opened one of the recordings. The footage shook violently, making the owner’s extreme nervousness obvious. But what appeared in the video stunned everyone.
“That many people?”
“Right? This elevator only holds ten, doesn’t it? How are there so many?”
“I can already imagine what happens next.”
Sure enough, the camera soon began thrashing wildly as blood sprayed across the frame.
Once everything fell still, the scene in the video looked exactly like the elevator before them now.
Xiaoshuai closed the recording and checked the videos on the other phones. Their contents were much the same.
“Gentlemen, let’s run! This obviously isn’t something we can handle!” Brother Biao cried, tears streaming down his face.
He had clearly reached his limit.
“We can’t. There’s still one person alive. We have to save him!” Liu Ye immediately replied.
“One person?”
“Yeah. Isn’t that Brother Hao still alive?”
“How do you know he isn’t dead? Maybe he went and got himself killed with the others right after we called him!” Brother Biao protested.
“No.”
Xiaoshuai raised the phones in his hand.
“Before you entered, I confirmed there were twenty-seven of you. Counting the people and the ghost in these recordings, plus the three of you, there are twenty-six in all. One person is very likely still alive.”
“Th-then…”
Brother Biao desperately wanted to ask whether they could simply leave without him. But the livestream was still running, and he could not force the words out.
Liu Ye saw what was worrying him and patted him on the shoulder.
“Don’t worry. I’ll protect you! Ask around if you don’t believe me. When I, Liu Ye, give my word, I keep it!”
“Really?”
Hearing that, Brother Biao felt somewhat reassured.
What he failed to notice was a comment drifting across the screen from a user named Formerly a Big Star.
“It’s settled. That guy is finished.”
“Why? Does anyone still doubt Liu Ye’s abilities?”
“That’s not the issue. When Brother Liu says he’ll protect you, he really can keep you alive through absolutely any danger.”
“Isn’t that a good thing?”
“The problem is, you’ll only be alive.”
Tears spilled from Fu Yang’s eyes after he typed that line.
Who else could have kept someone in his condition alive? Brother Liu could, that was who. Brother Liu… Boohoo…
The three men had no other choice. They did not dare leave Liu Ye and Xiaoshuai to walk out on their own, so they followed them into the elevator.
Suppressing their revulsion, they stood amid the mangled flesh. Xiaoshuai then pressed the button to close the doors.
Ding!
The elevator doors shut. The light overhead flickered, making them feel as though they had entered a sealed slaughterhouse made of flesh.
The bloody stench in the air kept the three men retching.
Crack!
At last, a sharp sound rang out and the elevator light died.
Brother Biao and his assistants were so frightened that they collapsed to the floor.
Xiaoshuai frowned and raised his phone. Countless comments streamed across the screen.
“Run! The elevator is a Fiend!”
“You’re inside the Fiend’s mouth.”
Xiaoshuai’s pupils contracted. He immediately switched on his flashlight and was stunned to discover that the metal walls had transformed into raw flesh. Beneath their feet lay a bright red tongue.
“I see!”
Xiaoshuai finally understood how the others had died.
The tongue abruptly curled and swept them to one side. Two rows of enormous teeth now surrounded them from above and below.
Just as the teeth were about to close, Liu Ye’s complaining voice came from the darkness.
“We should’ve cleaned up before coming in. Whose belt is tangled around my foot?”
As he spoke, Liu Ye crouched, grabbed the “belt,” and gave it a hard yank.
Snap!
“Aaaagh!”
A scream even more miserable than those of Brother Biao and his assistants erupted from inside the elevator. Then, with a heavy clang, the elevator stopped. Xiaoshuai and the other four could clearly feel it trembling.
“Did the elevator break down?” Liu Ye asked worriedly.
“Possibly. It has been abandoned for a long time, after all.”
“Should we call someone to come repair it?”
Brother Biao tossed out the suggestion without thinking. He swore he had only said it in passing. He merely wanted more people to come rescue him.
To his surprise, Liu Ye answered in complete seriousness.
“Why make someone come all this way in the middle of the night? What if somebody truly needs help and we delay the repairman?”
“Then are we supposed to stay trapped in here forever?” Brother Biao wailed.
“Why are you scared when I’m here?”
Liu Ye reached into his small cloth pouch and pulled out a screwdriver.
Beside him, Xiaoshuai’s eyes widened.
“Brother Liu! Show mercy!”
