Chapter 8

Ji Yan’an raised a hand to silence him. Squinting slightly, he leaned over and pinched the child who was currently sleeping sprawled out by the edge of the bed.

Uncle Li followed his gaze and was equally startled.

“This… this…”

He slapped his forehead. “I was wondering what I’d forgotten yesterday. This girl actually didn’t follow us out.”

“Are you alright, Young Master?”

They still weren’t sure if this child was a spy planted by someone, and given her strange set of skills, she might actually succeed if she truly intended to do something to the Young Master.

“It’s fine.”

Under Ji Yan’an’s persistent harassment, Jiang Yunsui finally woke up.

She opened her eyes to see a handsome but gaunt face, and her own nose being pinched.

Jiang Yunsui was still a bit dazed.

Who was she? Where was she? What was this place?

Ji Yan’an’s cold voice drifted over. “You certainly aren’t picky about where you sleep.”

Jiang Yunsui sat up and scratched her head, staring blankly.

Her brain was still rebooting.

Ji Yan’an said, “Didn’t I tell you yesterday that you could leave on your own?”

Jiang Yunsui’s little brows furrowed. “Don’t talk yet. Let me fink for a bit.”

Ji Yan’an was so exasperated he let out a short laugh.

“What? Is this how you speak to your master?”

Jiang Yunsui: She remembered now.

She stood up and gave a deep, polite bow to admit her mistake.

“I’m sorry. I don’t know when I fell asleep last night.”

But she still felt the need to defend herself.

She stole a glance at Ji Yan’an. “Maybe it’s because I didn’t sleep well last night…”

Ji Yan’an laughed again, purely out of irritation. She was subtly poking at the fact that he had hauled her over in the middle of the night.

“Fine. I assume you’ve slept well enough now?”

Jiang Yunsui nodded hesitantly. “I think so.”

“Then attend to my dressing. Go and bring my clothes over.”

Uncle Li looked at Jiang Yunsui with a hint of sympathy.

This little girl was so simple-minded that she constantly provoked the Young Master’s temper without even realizing it.

Their Young Master was quite petty, after all; he definitely held grudges.

Uncle Li went to call the servants to bring water for the Young Master to rinse his mouth and wash his face.

He also called out to Nanny Zhou, who looked after the Young Master. “Keep an eye on that little girl inside. She doesn’t know anything, and I’m afraid she won’t take proper care of the Young Master.”

Nanny Zhou looked confused. When she stepped into the room, she saw Ji Yan’an directing a toddler with short little legs to find his clothes all over the place.

“Why… are there so many?”

Jiang Yunsui was tiny. With her short arms and legs, she couldn’t even see the path ahead while hugging Ji Yan’an’s pile of clothes.

By a stroke of bad luck, one of Ji Yan’an’s belts fell to the floor. She didn’t see it and stepped right on it, successfully tumbling to the ground along with the clothes, her two short legs kicking up into the air.

Nanny Zhou: “…”

Jiang Yunsui crawled out from the pile of clothes without complaining.

She had a sudden idea and picked up only two pieces of clothing, scurrying over with them.

“Here, put these on first. I’ll go get the others.”

Ji Yan’an’s face darkened.

“They fell on the floor. You even used my clothes as a cushion for your fall, and now you want me to wear them?”

Jiang Yunsui didn’t understand. “They’re clean. Not dirty.”

Nanny Zhou hurried forward. “Nanmo, go and fetch a fresh set of clothes for the Young Master.”

This young master of theirs had been raised in luxury and prestige in the Capital since childhood. Even though he was later forced to support the Ji Family amidst constant schemes, the Ji Family had never let him lack for material comforts.

Consequently, even after coming to Mobei, Ji Yan’an remained a bit of a germaphobe and never mistreated himself when it came to his lifestyle.

A young servant answered and hurried off to get new clothes.

“Young Master, let me do it.”

Ji Yan’an gave a cold snort. “Nanny Zhou, starting today, take her and teach her the rules properly. She’s all thumbs.”
Nanny Zhou’s lips twitched as she sighed inwardly.

What could a child this small possibly learn?

The Young Master was clearly a man whose bark was worse than his bite. Despite his harsh words, he hadn’t actually mentioned any punishment for the little girl.

But where had this little girl come from?

Nanny Zhou cast a discreet glance toward Jiang Yunsui.

Jiang Yunsui didn’t seem at all bothered by being called clumsy. Seeing that there was nothing left for her to do, she openly started daydreaming.

Nanny Zhou: …She certainly has a thick skin.

Though she wasn’t sure what the Young Master’s intentions were in keeping such a young child by his side, Nanny Zhou still led Jiang Yunsui away when it was time to leave.

“I don’t know why the Young Master is keeping a little thing like you around, but since you’re now his personal maid, you’d better work hard. Remember what I’m about to tell you.”

Jiang Yunsui nodded obediently. “Okay. Thank you, Nanny.”

The child was beautiful, looking like a soft little white rabbit, which caused Nanny Zhou’s heart to soften involuntarily.

She patted Jiang Yunsui’s small head. “As long as you don’t cross the Young Master’s boundaries, he’s actually quite easy to serve. He doesn’t like people getting too close and is a bit of a neat freak, so your clothes must always be clean. And there is one more thing you must remember.”

Nanny Zhou grew serious. Jiang Yunsui instinctively stood up straight, perking up her ears to listen intently.

“Never, under any circumstances, mention anything regarding the Ji Family in front of him.”

Jiang Yunsui nodded earnestly, her voice sweet and milky. “Okay, I’ll remember!”

Nanny Zhou had intended to teach her some proper etiquette, but looking at the tiny figure standing before her-hardly reaching her waist-she ultimately couldn’t bring herself to be harsh.

She truly couldn’t fathom what the Young Master was thinking, keeping a girl who was barely four years old to serve him.

After giving Jiang Yunsui a few more pointers, she let her go.

Once she was free to leave, the first thing Jiang Yunsui did was head back to Cook Chen’s small courtyard.

Just as she left the area of the Front Courtyard, she saw Cook Chen waiting at the intersection.

“Suisui!”

“Aunt Chen!”

Jiang Yunsui ran over, and Cook Chen grabbed her small hand.

“How are you?”

Having not seen the girl return all night, heaven only knew how worried Cook Chen had been.

Jiang Yunsui shook her head. “I’m fine.”

She stood on her tiptoes and touched the dark circles under Cook Chen’s eyes, her soft voice filled with confusion. “Aunt Chen, you didn’t sleep well. It’s dark here.”

Cook Chen smiled. “It’s nothing. I just couldn’t sleep last night.”

“Come on. I made some lean meat porridge for you. Let’s go back and eat.”

Jiang Yunsui’s eyes lit up. She nodded and gave a soft, sweet “Okay.”

After happily finishing the porridge, Jiang Yunsui patted her little belly with great satisfaction.

When Cook Chen learned that she had actually become the Young Master’s personal maid, her surprise was beyond words.

Wait, Suisui is still so small. Can she really take care of the Young Master?

She gave her instructions with an air of worry. “Suisui, you’re still young and don’t know how to do much yet. From now on, just listen to the Young Master. Do whatever he tells you to do.”

This little girl was a bit slow and ditsy. Now that she had become a maid and her master was the Young Master himself, there was no other choice but to follow his orders.

Jiang Yunsui nodded and said in a tiny, soft voice, “Okay, Suisui will be good.”

Aunt Chen was good to her, so she would listen to Aunt Chen.

Aunt Chen told her to listen to Young Master Ji, so she would listen to him too.

Feeling a bit sleepy after eating, it was time for a nap.

“Aunt Chen, sleep.”

“You’re tired.”

She could see that Cook Chen was exhausted.

“Yes, yes, yes. Our Suisui is truly a good girl.”

Cook Chen hadn’t slept yesterday and had to go on duty early this morning; she was indeed exhausted.
