Chapter 136
Chapter 136
Heh. It was a snow fox.
It had probably been drawn over by the Imperial Flowing Essence on her body.
The more spiritual an animal was, the more sensitive it became to rare treasures like Imperial Flowing Essence.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk… Come here, little fox.”
Uh, that sounded like how you called a dog.
Oh well. Foxes were canines too. Same difference.
The Little White Fox held a white button mushroom in its mouth, tilting its head as it looked at Jiang Yunsui.
“Come here.”
She walked over carefully, placing a bit of Imperial Flowing Essence in her palm.
The little fox’s fur trembled in the wind, making it look especially beautiful.
“Yip, yip…”
In no time at all, Jiang Yunsui had the pretty fox in her arms and was happily rubbing it all over.
The little fox was ridiculously good at acting cute. It gently nibbled her finger and cried in a sweet, delicate voice.
It coaxed Jiang Yunsui into handing over quite a bit of Imperial Flowing Essence like a little fool.
“Woof, woof, woof!”
Zuozuo and Youyou came back, carrying a rabbit in their mouths.
They had returned happily with their prey.
But the moment they got back, their world collapsed.
What were they seeing?
They had only been gone for such a short while, and their master was already holding some little fox vixen!
Jiang Yunsui looked up.
“Zuozuo Youyou, you…”
“Woof, woof, woof!”
The two dogs barked wildly at the fox.
Damn fox vixen, get lost!
In the end, the little fox was still afraid of the two dogs, both much bigger than itself. It stopped yipping, kicked off from Jiang Yunsui’s arms, flipped down to the ground, and bolted away as fast as its legs could carry it.
It vanished in the blink of an eye.
Jiang Yunsui: “…”
“It was only a moment. Where did you go and hook a fox from?”
Jiang Yunsui planted her hands on her hips and huffed. “I didn’t hook it. It came over by itself.”
“Wow, are we eating roasted rabbit today?”
Song Jin said, “What else? Can’t you see with your eyes?”
Jiang Yunsui grumbled under her breath. She was just asking. This guy really knew how to make words sound awful.
After cleaning the rabbit, Song Jin began roasting it with full confidence.
Jiang Yunsui picked mushrooms.
She even contributed her own seasonings.
But when she looked at the finished product in Song Jin’s hands, Jiang Yunsui fell into doubt.
“Can this really be eaten?”
“Why is it different from the roasted rabbit I ate before?”
Song Jin rubbed his nose. “It just doesn’t look very good. The inside is definitely delicious.”
He said it with such certainty that the simple Little Mushroom believed him.
So she took the rabbit leg he handed her.
After one bite, she froze for several seconds, then spat the meat out with a series of ptooeys.
Song Jin looked at her. “You’re wasting food. Do you know how long I searched before I finally found this rabbit?”
After righteously condemning Jiang Yunsui, he said,
“If you can’t even endure this little bit of hardship, how are you going to find anyone?”
With that, he took a bite himself.
After chewing twice, his expression twisted.
Jiang Yunsui stared at him with her big, wide eyes.
“No wasting food, okay?”
Her voice drifted over eerily.
Song Jin really did not want to show weakness in front of this brat.
But the more he ate, the more ferocious his expression became.
Finally, he gagged and spat the stuff in his mouth into the fire. It was bitter, fishy, burnt, and somehow still had the texture of raw meat.
Expressionless, he said, “This isn’t food. This is garbage.”
Jiang Yunsui gave him a huge eye roll.
Then the big one and the little one squatted by the fire, staring blankly at the black, awful-tasting rabbit meat.
“Grrr…”
Someone’s stomach had started a rebellion. Oh, it was theirs.
Song Jin swallowed. “What do we do now?”
Jiang Yunsui rubbed her little belly. “Don’t we still have sweet potatoes?”
“Right. I’ll go get them.”
“Should we roast these mushrooms too?”
Jiang Yunsui nodded.
So they threaded the mushrooms onto the wooden skewers Song Jin had carved.
Song Jin took two sweet potatoes and tossed them into the fire.
The two of them held up the mushrooms and began roasting them.
“Should we add some oil? I feel like they’re getting a little burnt.”
Jiang Yunsui nodded. “Add some oil.”
She checked the Inherited Memories Tuantuan had given her.
But as the saying went, the eyes understood, the brain understood, and the hands declared they understood nothing at all!
She added too much oil, and the flames shot up at once.
Song Jin reacted a little faster. He grabbed Jiang Yunsui by the collar and flung her backward.
Splat…
Jiang Yunsui landed face-first on the ground, tears of pain welling in her eyes.
It wasn’t just from the fall. She seemed to have been singed by the fire just now, and her face stung hotly.
“Sorry, sorry. My hands moved faster than my brain. I really didn’t mean to.”
Song Jin coughed, looking a little embarrassed as he went over and picked Jiang Yunsui up.
But when he saw what she looked like, he froze on the spot.
Jiang Yunsui touched her own face. It seemed fine.
“Hahahaha…”
Jiang Yunsui: ???
Song Jin clutched his stomach, pointing at Jiang Yunsui with one hand as he laughed so hard tears came out.
“Your… your eyebrows and hair.”
He tried to hold it in, but he couldn’t hold it in at all.
Jiang Yunsui touched her eyebrows and hair and pulled down some charred black bits.
And the prickly, very wrong feeling beneath her fingers was bad news.
Little Mushroom had a bad feeling.
“What is this?”
She stared blankly at the black stuff in her hand, her little face utterly confused.
Song Jin rubbed his nose. “Your burnt hair.”
Jiang Yunsui’s nose twitched, and the smell of scorched hair lingered at its tip.
Jiang Yunsui: !!!
Her hair!
Unfortunately, there was no mirror here, nor any pool of water for her to see what she looked like.
Half of Jiang Yunsui’s eyebrows had been burned off, the remaining bits curling and hanging on for dear life.
Her eyelashes had also suffered the fire’s cruelty. Of course, the worst victim was still her hair.
She had bangs.
Her neat bangs had made her tender little face look even cuter.
But now, a good chunk of those bangs had been burned away, leaving them ragged and uneven, while her entire face had been roasted black.
“Don’t worry. You’re still little. Your eyebrows, eyelashes, and hair will all grow back.”
Jiang Yunsui cried her heart out, but once she started crying, her already-blackened little face looked even worse with tear tracks running down it.
Song Jin pinched himself several times before he finally managed not to laugh.
“Wuwuwu… I’ve gotten ugly.”
Little Mushroom covered her hair and cried miserably. She was a pretty Little Mushroom. She did not want to be an ugly Little Mushroom.
“You’re not ugly.”
Song Jin took a moment to steady himself before comforting her. “Like this… you have a different kind of cuteness.”
Ugly-cute was still cute, wasn’t it?
“Really?”
With no mirror, Jiang Yunsui couldn’t see what she looked like and could only ask Song Jin.
“Really. I swear. Besides, this will grow back very soon. It’s no problem at all.”
Fooled by his confident tone, Little Mushroom reluctantly believed him.
She was still hiccuping with sobs, though.
Song Jin quickly raked the roasted sweet potatoes out of the fire.
“We’re hungry. Let’s eat something first.”
Jiang Yunsui looked at the pitch-black roasted sweet potatoes and became even sadder.
“Why are your roasted sweet potatoes so different from the ones Fat Chef and the others roast?”
She poked one with a wooden skewer. Good heavens, the skewer couldn’t even pierce the inside.
Song Jin was just as baffled.
Wasn’t this thing supposed to be fine if you tossed it into the fire and roasted it for a bit? Why was it different?!
