Chapter 101

Song Jin reached out to take one, and Jiang Yunsui immediately bolted.

The two of them circled Ji Yan’an in a perfect reenactment of “King Qin Circling the Pillar.”

In the end, Jiang Yunsui was still at a disadvantage because her legs were short and she ran too slowly. Song Jin caught her, and she lost a peach.

“The peaches are ripe, huh.”

As he spoke, he took a bite right in front of Jiang Yunsui.

The little girl was so angry her cheeks puffed up like a pufferfish.

“Don’t be so stingy. Don’t you still have plenty in that cloth pouch of yours?”

Jiang Yunsui’s heart ached. If she’d known, she would have handed him the smallest one herself.

When she saw Shen Qingzhu, Jiang Yunsui ran over and offered him a peach on her own.

Song Jin raised a brow and pinched the little bun of hair on the tiny girl’s head.

“Hey, isn’t this a little too much? Why does he get different treatment from me, hm?”

Jiang Yunsui said, “Shen Qingzhu helped these peaches grow too. He gave me medicinal powder to drive away all the bugs. Otherwise, the big peaches would have been eaten by insects.”

Li Yunniang arrived afterward, and Jiang Yunsui gave her one as well.

But Li Yunniang wasn’t leaving with them. She had only come to give a brief work report.

Everything in Beizhen City had been arranged. With Old General Tang holding things down behind the scenes, it would not slip out of Ji Yan’an’s control in the short term.

The carriage swayed as it set off.

Jiang Yunsui looked around and realized that, wasn’t this still the same lineup as when they went to fight the mountain bandits last time?

The only difference was that Song Jin no longer had that gloomy, male-ghost-like aura about him.

Instead, he was acting cheap and shameless.

Jiang Yunsui found him so annoying. He was always sneaking her food. He was even worse than before, when he had been gloomy, sharp-tongued, and looked down on everyone.

Crunch…

Song Jin tossed a fried dough twist into his mouth.

“This thing’s pretty good.”

“Let me try that one too.”

Jiang Yunsui was holding a skewer of candied hawthorns. Hearing him, she handed him a piece of hawthorn roll, curled into a little cylinder about the length of a finger.

All the while, she kept grumbling.

“Eat, eat, eat. You’re already so grown up and still so greedy, even asking a little kid like me for snacks. I’ve never seen anyone as shameless as you.”

Song Jin pretended not to hear. Watching the child puff up in anger was rather amusing.

At least the journey would not be boring.

Jiang Yunsui snorted and handed Shen Qingzhu a small plate of snacks.

“Shen Qingzhu, these are for you.”

Song Jin said, “Hey, kid, do you have something against me?”

Jiang Yunsui said, “You snatch my food. How is that the same as me giving it away?”

The inside of the carriage was noisy and lively.

Ji Yan’an leaned against the soft couch, his face somewhat pale.

Nanshu was anxious at his side. Every time the Young Master went out, he suffered terribly.

Jiang Yunsui stuffed a piece of sour preserved fruit into Ji Yan’an’s mouth.

“Does this make it a little better?”

“Or do you want to see if there’s anything you’d like to eat?”

Ji Yan’an opened his eyes and glanced over. The sour taste in his mouth made him feel marginally better.

“I’m fine.”

When they reached a place to rest for the time being, Jiang Yunsui took him and ran out of the carriage.

Breathing the air outside made him feel much more comfortable.

As for her, she couldn’t sit still and started looking for trouble again.

“I’m going to look around and see if there are any wild fruits to eat.”

After saying that, she ran off, a little rabbit let loose and impossible to catch.

“It’s almost dark. Be careful on your own!”

In the end, that was the only warning they managed to call after her.

Night did not affect Jiang Yunsui much.

There were not many trees nearby. After searching for a while, she found a jujube tree.

They were not ripe yet, so she couldn’t eat them.

“A wild chicken!”

Seeing the wild chicken flap its wings and fly off, Jiang Yunsui happily chased after it.

Today, she wanted to eat beggar’s chicken.

She concealed her presence and followed that wild chicken until she found a whole flock of them.
Only one of them had beautiful feathers, so dazzling that it still stood out even under the night sky, with tail feathers that were especially long.

The other pheasants were all dull and gray.

Wow. That male pheasant had so many wives.

Jiang Yunsui hid in the grass. After thinking for a moment, she began absorbing Moonlight Essence.

Then she released a tiny bit of the Imperial Flowing Essence she had condensed.

Sure enough, the pheasants over there were drawn over by her Imperial Flowing Essence.

The moment a pheasant came close, Jiang Yunsui pounced without a second thought.

“Got one, hahaha…”

“Cluck, cluck, cluck…”

For a while, feathers flew and chaos reigned.

Jiang Yunsui had caught one of the rooster’s wives.

At first, the pheasants really were startled by her sudden appearance. Except for the one she had caught, all the others scattered.

But before Jiang Yunsui could be happy for long, they seemed to realize that there was only one very bullyable-looking child here. The rooster immediately led his wives charging back with murderous momentum.

Every single one of them had a fierce glint in their eyes.

The huge smile on Jiang Yunsui’s face gradually froze. Her eyes even went a little blank.

Then her bottom was viciously pecked.

“Awooo!!!”

No, seriously, why were the pheasants here so fierce?!

“You have so many wives! What’s wrong with me eating one?!”

“Stop pecking me! Ow, that hurts!”

Jiang Yunsui tried to stand her ground against the pheasants. She was bigger than them. Fine, she couldn’t beat anyone else, but surely she could beat a pheasant.

Reality proved that the useless Little Mushroom really couldn’t.

After getting her little arms pecked until the skin broke, Jiang Yunsui grabbed the pheasant she had caught in one hand, shielded her head with the other, and broke into a frantic run.

“You’re ganging up on me! That’s not fair!!!”

In her panic, she climbed up a tree and quickly snapped off a branch to wave around.

“Help! Ji Yan’an!!!”

Because of the weapon in her hand, the pheasants below temporarily didn’t dare come up. Jiang Yunsui quickly shouted at the top of her lungs.

The person already searching for her nearby heard the sound and hurried over.

Ji Si was honestly impressed. Every time Jiang Yunsui ran off, she would hide herself, making him lose track of her every single time.

What impressed him even more was that every time he found her, she was either already in trouble or on her way to getting there.

This time was even more incredible. She had been bullied up a tree by a flock of pheasants and couldn’t get down.

Ji Si’s arrival finally scared off those pheasants, and the male pheasant tragically lost another wife.

Jiang Yunsui hung from the tree. When she saw Ji Si, it was like seeing family.

“Si Si, those pheasants bullied me. I can’t get down QAQ.”

Ji Si: “…”

He climbed the tree with ease and carried her down.

Jiang Yunsui tossed the pheasant to him, then blew on the spots on her arms where she had been painfully pecked.

She had even been pecked on the face. That pheasant really had been ruthless with its beak.

Her bottom had been pecked several times too!

Ji Si held two pheasants in one hand and gripped the back of her collar with the other.

“We’re going back.”

Jiang Yunsui said, “Wait, wait…”

She pointed at the tree she had just climbed.

“The lemons on the tree. Pick the lemons. They’re edible.”

As for the fruit lemon, how to put it? Just smelling it was pretty fragrant.

But one bite would make your teeth ache from the sourness and your saliva pour out.

Still, it tasted great made into fruit tea, or mixed with a little honey and steeped in water.

Ji Si glanced at her. “Wait here.”

At the end, still not reassured, he added, “Don’t run.”

Jiang Yunsui obediently oh’d.

Ji Si leapt around in the tree, and soon picked about twenty lemons.

These wild lemons weren’t very big. Their bright golden color looked rather nice, but the bumpy surface seemed rough and uneven.

In short, they didn’t exactly look good enough to sell.
