Chapter 166
Chapter 166
Jiang Yunsui tried to hug Ji Si’s neck as she cried, but her arms were full of eggs.
Still sobbing, she handed them one by one to Centurion Lin, Shuanzi, and the others.
“This one… waaah… is Shuanzi’s.”
“This one’s… Xiao Wu’s.”
“There are too many. Can you take them yourselves? I can’t hand them all out… hic!”
Her tearful hiccup made everyone both amused and relieved.
Ji Si wiped her tears.
“Waaah, Si Si, I missed you so much.”
Her already dirty face now looked like a little calico cat.
“Do you want eggs? I took lots.”
Song Jin leaned closer, jealous. “So you only remember Ji Si? I’m this big and you ignore me?”
Jiang Yunsui huffed. “You can have one.”
Once her arms were empty, she clung to Ji Si and cried again.
“Why did you come? Is your wound better? Where’s Ji Yan’an? Where’s Fat Grandpa?”
Fat Chef entered with reddened eyes. “Child! Your Fat Grandpa is here!”
“Waaah, Fat Grandpa!”
“Waaah, my poor child!”
They sounded like opera performers. Song Jin went numb.
“Go stand watch outside,” he told Ji Si.
Ji Si stared at Jiang Yunsui without registering a word Song Jin had said.
Fine. Apparently, Song Jin had to wait on every last one of them.
They cried quietly, aware of the danger. When other slaves noticed something, Shuanzi and the others went to deal with them.
Jiang Yunsui pushed a Verdant Jade Mushroom into Ji Si’s hand. “Eat this, Si Si. It heals wounds.”
“Any more? Give me one,” Song Jin said.
“There were only a few. No!”
He was not injured. Why should he eat one?
“Enough. Time is short. When do we leave?”
Jiang Yunsui looked at Centurion Lin. “We’re taking them too.”
He shook his head. “No. You leave first.”
Avoiding her eyes, he told Song Jin that she must not be risked. She had spent days finding them food and weapons. They owed her too much. Armed now, they could fight and leave the rest to fate.
Jiang Yunsui glared. “I fed you for so long. You can’t die!”
“You’ve done enough.”
Her eyes reddened again. She produced her map. “Look! I drew everything. We can escape.”
Song Jin examined it and hissed in surprise. “Little Yunsui, look at you. You’ve mapped nearly every important place in the Barbarian camp.”
The others crowded around. She had marked the granaries, treasure vault, armory, stable, and even the King’s tent.
Jiang Yunsui’s ability was truly heaven-defying.
“You went to the stable? It looks far away.”
Embarrassed, she explained how she hid in hay while watching Barbarians fight and was carried there on a fodder cart. She complained about the horse bullying her and how long her short legs took to walk back.
Her expressions changed endlessly while the adults indulged her.
After talking herself dry, she drank water.
Song Jin studied the map, then smiled with familiar wickedness.
“Then let’s do something big.”
Everyone looked at him.
“What happens if the granaries, the King’s tent, and the treasure vault all catch fire at once?”
King Huxie’s whole camp would fall into chaos.
“We can use the horses too.”
Centurion Lin frowned. “We may not control them. Many horses accept only their owners or those who tamed them.”
“Jiang Yunsui has a way.”
She blinked. “Me?”
“Remember the grass you grew? Spend the next few days growing more. Feed selected horses until they know and crave its scent.”
“But there are so many horses, and not enough grass!”
“Who told you to feed all of them? Count our people and choose only that many.”
Song Jin pointed at Ji Si. “Report to the Young Master so they stop worrying. Send one person back to Beizhen City in Mobei and have the fastest cavalry meet us.”
They had already found the route home.
Ji Si left expressionlessly, then soon returned the same way.
Song Jin stared. “Why are you back?”
“I sent them on ahead. I’ll stay and set the fires.”
“Speak like a human.”
Jiang Yunsui raised her hand. “I know! Si Si says he’ll stay and help burn the tents.”
Song Jin rubbed his forehead. Two articulate men had gone, leaving him someone whose words required guessing. Still, a hidden guard’s skills suited arson and ambush.
Because Jiang Yunsui had to grow grass, Song Jin took her out when they left.
Shuanzi and the others watched reluctantly. Centurion Lin hid his own sadness.
“Why are you standing around? Once we’re free, you can see her every day.”
“Now we resume our old training and survive.”
Conditions were poor, and they trained secretly in scraps of time, fighting for every chance to live through the rebellion.
