Chapter 162
Chapter 162
Jiang Yunsui nodded and patted her plump belly.
“Eat lots, get strong, run fast!”
Seeing Centurion Lin’s men moved to tears gave Little Mushroom an enormous sense of achievement.
She thumped her chest grandly. “I’ll feed all of you!”
She had made something of herself. She was supporting so many people at once!
Hehehe…
The men were deeply touched. They almost wanted to dedicate the rest of their lives to her.
Sorry, Young Master. It was not that the Ji Family Members treated them poorly; Jiang Yunsui was simply too wonderful.
She yawned after her exhausting day. Centurion Lin urged her to sleep, but she shook her head, sat cross-legged beside the hay, and cultivated.
The gaunt men formed a wall before her to block the wind.
“How is Xiao Wu?”
Shuanzi grinned. “Better. His fever is down, and the wounds aren’t inflamed.”
Centurion Lin relaxed completely and began treating the remaining green mushrooms like priceless medicine.
“The few of us can’t escape alone,” he said calmly. “Starting tomorrow, test the attitudes of other Ji Family Army men you meet. We can also approach decent people who truly hate the Barbarians.”
There were other pens and other captured soldiers, though probably not many remained. They could meet only while working outside.
“Yes!”
Hope shone in every eye. Even if they died, they would take Barbarians with them.
Thus, in a crumbling, drafty sheep pen, the slaves began planning rebellion without their captors knowing.
Cultivation counted as rest for Jiang Yunsui. She absorbed moonlight until she fell asleep.
Centurion Lin’s men spent half the night hiding weapons separately and discussing whom to recruit. Their excitement kept them awake until he finally ordered them to sleep and warned them to act weak tomorrow.
As Centurion Lin lay down near Jiang Yunsui, his hand pressed something unlike hay.
A termite mushroom had sprouted from the ground.
Centurion Lin fell silent. How had mushrooms started growing here after all his time in this place?
“Centurion, look what I found!”
Shuanzi held up a large shiitake. More mushrooms clustered in the hay.
Then someone pointed beside Jiang Yunsui. “Isn’t that the kind you fed Xiao Wu?”
Three beautiful blue-green mushrooms had sprouted there.
Centurion Lin stared in shock. A little immortal truly had descended to save them!
“Quickly, dig them up and pick the rest. Keep quiet.”
No one could sleep now. They excitedly harvested everything, treating the three Verdant Jade Mushrooms as treasures that could save lives.
Then they squatted around Jiang Yunsui and stared.
“Centurion, she really is a little immortal, isn’t she?”
“She’s cute and kind, and she said she’d feed us. My own mother never said that.”
Heaven had sent Jiang Yunsui at their most desperate moment. She was a ray of light in their darkest hour.
Centurion Lin’s gaze hardened. “Whoever leaves this place must protect her, even with his life.”
Everyone nodded.
Jiang Yunsui heard none of it. Refreshed after cultivating, she opened her eyes at the first rooster’s crow and found several grimy faces inches from hers.
Little Mushroom jolted in fright.
Those faces were terrifying!
“Little Yunsui, you’re awake. The Barbarians will come soon. Hide and don’t let them find you.”
She scratched her head and agreed.
Soon the Barbarians’ curses sounded outside. Jiang Yunsui could not understand them, but their tone alone told her the language was filthy. Centurion Lin’s men instantly hunched over, their eyes numb again.
Jiang Yunsui stroked her chin. Were they acting?
After everyone left, Little Mushroom rubbed her belly and went foraging again.
She patted her cheeks. “I’m feeding lots of people now. I can’t be lazy.”
Carrying her handmade map, she strode out energetically.
Over the next few days, everyone pursued their own part of the plan. Jiang Yunsui mapped almost the entire camp while stealing enemy food and weapons for her people. It was thrilling.
Meanwhile, Centurion Lin’s men contacted others they could trust, and the rebel group slowly grew.
Meanwhile, Song Jin’s party suffered. They searched for days without finding Jiang Yunsui and began to wonder whether she had left.
Then Song Jin noticed something.
Assigned to guard slaves herding livestock, he saw one eating a mushroom – a very familiar mushroom.
He watched quietly for two days before confronting Centurion Lin with a shiitake.
“Where did this come from?”
Centurion Lin’s expression changed, especially when the man spoke the language of the Central Plains.
“We found it while herding sheep, sir.”
Song Jin laughed. “Do I look stupid? These don’t grow on the grasslands. And I’ve noticed you making contact with one another. Planning a rebellion?”
Centurion Lin clenched his fists, considering whether to kill him.
Song Jin smiled. “How many Ji Family Army soldiers remain?”
Centurion Lin jerked his head up.
“Relax.” Song Jin removed his disguise, making Centurion Lin’s eyes widen further.
He lowered his voice. “Finally found her. That Little Ancestor hid herself well.”
