Chapter 32
Chapter 32
Things were certainly getting more and more interesting.
“I’ve finished writing the prompt. One silver melon seed for every character you write.”
Hearing this, Little Mushroom grew excited. “Okay!”
Her response was exceptionally loud and clear.
Ji Yan’an was still feeling a bit tired. Instead of attending to official business or other matters, he sat beside Little Mushroom and watched her write.
Whenever her posture was incorrect, he would use a small wooden ruler to lightly tap the offending spot to correct her.
Seeing the little thing pout with grievance while still trying her best to fix her form, the corners of his mouth unconsciously curled upward.
Jiang Yunsui held the brush clumsily, scribbling away on the paper.
Well, what she was producing couldn’t really be called characters.
Ji Yan’an was utterly unimpressed. “It’s hideous.”
Little Mushroom puffed out her cheeks. She was really working incredibly hard on her writing.
It was just that her hands wouldn’t listen to her.
But looking at her own work compared to Ji Yan’an’s, even a Little Mushroom who knew nothing about calligraphy could see the world of difference.
It was the kind of thing anyone with eyes could see.
She muttered softly to herself, “Silver melon seeds, silver melon seeds…”
Yes, she was cheering herself on!
Ji Yan’an had originally been leaning lazily against the chair with his legs crossed.
An action that might look crude when done by others possessed an air of noble elegance when he did it.
Because they were sitting so close, he caught the scent emanating from Jiang Yunsui.
It was a unique scent, one that seemed to belong to the forest.
Unknowingly, he felt more and more drowsy until his eyes gradually drifted shut.
*Clatter…*
The hard-working Little Mushroom heard the sound and looked down, discovering that the ruler he used to tap her had fallen to the floor.
The youth beside her was leaning against the chair, his head slightly tilted as he slept.
Ji Yan’an was very handsome, with sharp, well-defined features. Because he was still young, there was a hint of delicacy to his looks.
Of course, that was only when his eyes were closed.
Jiang Yunsui noticed that his eyelashes were very long-quite pretty, actually.
However, there wasn’t much flesh on his face, and there were visible dark circles under his eyes.
While Little Mushroom was secretly observing Ji Yan’an, Uncle Li and Nanshu’s eyes had already widened in shock.
He fell asleep! The Young Master actually fell asleep!
“The Young Master, he…”
“Shh, shh…”
Uncle Li covered Nanshu’s mouth. “Keep it down. Don’t wake the Young Master.”
Nanshu nodded frantically.
Once Uncle Li let go, he asked in a low whisper, “But is the Young Master just going to sleep there?”
It was rare enough for him to fall asleep, but sleeping in a chair would be far too uncomfortable.
Uncle Li was also anxious and conflicted. “But if we wake him now, what if he can’t fall back asleep?”
As for finding someone to carry the Young Master into the inner room, that was even less of an option.
The Young Master was extremely vigilant now; he would bolt awake if anyone approached him.
Wait…
Uncle Li looked at the child sitting next to the Young Master, whose hand was itching to pluck one of the Young Master’s eyelashes.
“Hiss…”
Stared at by two pairs of burning eyes, Little Mushroom instantly retracted her restless little hand. She looked at Uncle Li and Nanshu with a well-behaved but guilty expression.
She-she hadn’t actually touched him yet.
Uncle Li stared at Jiang Yunsui, feeling only a sense of strangeness in his heart.
Why was it that when this little girl was so close to the Young Master, instead of his instinctive vigilance kicking in, he had actually fallen asleep?
“How about you give it a try?” Uncle Li urged Nanshu.
Nanshu replied, “You’re older and more steady, you should try.”
Uncle Li countered, “It’s precisely because I’m old that I’m afraid I won’t be able to hold the Young Master steadily. You youngsters have more strength, you go.”
The two of them continued to ‘defer’ to each other in low voices.
Finally, Uncle Li gave Nanshu a shove. “Go on, go on. Stop dawdling.”
Nanshu thought: *Ginger really is spicier when it’s old!*
He walked gingerly to the Young Master’s side and, under Jiang Yunsui’s puzzled gaze, reached his hands toward the Young Master.
The next second, the previously sleeping Ji Yan’an snapped his eyes open and grabbed the nearest object to hurl at Nanshu.
He didn’t even notice what he had grabbed.
Nanshu was still slightly bent over, reaching out to carry him, when the ink hit him square in the face. His skin was now pitch black.
He froze entirely, not daring to move a muscle.
Jiang Yunsui also froze because the object Ji Yan’an had thrown was the brush she had been holding.
Ji Yan’an looked at Nanshu, his brow furrowing slightly. “What are you doing?”
Having his sleep interrupted had left him with quite a temper.
Nanshu looked like he wanted to cry but had no tears left. “Master, I just wanted to carry you inside to sleep. It’s uncomfortable sleeping sitting up like this.”
Only after being reminded did Ji Yan’an realize with a start that he had actually fallen asleep.
Just like that previous time.
It wasn’t because of the medicine.
The only common factor between the two instances was…
Ji Yan’an shifted his gaze to Jiang Yunsui.
It seemed unbelievable.
But he would know for sure once he tested it.
He stood up and stared at Jiang Yunsui.
The Little Mushroom’s large eyes were filled with confusion and bewilderment.
*What’s going on?*
“You, come with me.”
After saying that, he walked straight toward the inner chamber.
Jiang Yunsui pointed at herself. “Ah? Me?”
Uncle Li stepped forward. “Don’t just stand there dazed. Follow him.”
“Cough… Nanshu, why don’t you go wash up first?”
*Hehe… good thing I let this young lad go first.*
Nanshu shot him a resentful look.
Ji Yan’an sat by the edge of the bed, staring at a certain Little Mushroom who was sluggishly shuffling her way over.
Jiang Yunsui felt like hiding under his intense gaze. Her little feet moved this way and that, walking in a complete zigzag pattern.
Yet, his eyes remained fixed on her.
“What are you doing?” Ji Yan’an asked, his patience wearing thin.
Jiang Yunsui replied, “No-nothing.”
Not daring to play any more tricks, she hurried over.
Then, she stood there obediently, waiting for instructions.
“Just stand here.”
Ji Yan’an pointed to a spot near the head of the bed.
After a pause, he added, “Make yourself comfortable. You can sit if you want.”
Then, right in front of him, Jiang Yunsui sat down cross-legged. She tilted her small face up slightly to look at him, as if asking, *’Like this?’*
Ji Yan’an: “…”
He had originally wanted to scold her for having no manners-did he mean for her to sit *right now*?
*She’s still small,* Ji Yan’an reminded himself. He then lay down on the bed.
“Uncle Li, you go out.”
Uncle Li was a bit worried, but he also knew the Young Master’s rules regarding sleep.
Thus, he could only use his eyes to send a message to Jiang Yunsui.
*’Be quiet.’*
The Little Mushroom: ???
She didn’t understand his meaning at all.
After Uncle Li walked out, the room became very quiet, leaving only the sound of two people breathing.
After a long while, Ji Yan’an opened his eyes and turned his head.
He met the clear, bright, and spirited large eyes of a certain child.
She even tilted her head at him.
Ji Yan’an asked, “Last time you were in my room, what did you do?”
Jiang Yunsui let out a confused “Ah?”
After thinking for a moment, she adjusted her sitting posture.
“I sat like this,” she said, her milky voice sounding very serious.
Ji Yan’an closed his eyes. He felt like they were talking past each other.
“I’m asking you, what did you do in the room last time that made me fall asleep?”
Oh, so that’s what he was asking.
The Little Mushroom leaned in a bit closer and then carefully took hold of his hand.
Ji Yan’an froze.
Jiang Yunsui’s hand was very small, feeling a bit chubby, soft, and somewhat warm.
In contrast, Ji Yan’an’s hand was very cold.
Since it was currently summer, Jiang Yunsui found holding it quite comfortable.
