Chapter 74
Chapter 74
Jiang Yunsui rode on the back of a moose, her basket hanging from its antlers.
At long last, her feet were free.
Jiang Yunsui was delighted, humming a happy little tune under her breath.
But soon enough, her joy turned to disaster.
Three mountain bandits on patrol came this way, and in an instant, they locked eyes with the moose-and with Jiang Yunsui on the moose’s back.
With a moose that huge under her, there was no way Jiang Yunsui could make herself less noticeable.
“Stop right there!”
The three bandits quickly snapped back to their senses and came charging after her with their weapons in hand.
As if Jiang Yunsui would stop. She grabbed the moose’s two massive antlers.
“Run, run!”
Naturally, those three men on two legs couldn’t outrun a four-legged moose.
But they still chased after her with everything they had.
Jiang Yunsui twisted around and shouted, “What is wrong with you people? Three grown men chasing one little kid!”
The three bandits didn’t care. The higher-ups had said no suspicious person was to be let go.
Besides, that was one enormous moose. If they brought it back, it would be enough for all the brothers to have a proper feast.
Even if Jiang Yunsui had been beaten to death, she never would have guessed those three were just craving moose meat.
The moose was fast, but Jiang Yunsui suffered for it too.
Several times, she nearly got thrown off.
“Aaaaaah!!!”
“Slow down, slow down! Turn! You’re going to hit a tree!”
“My buns! Wuwuwu…”
Quick as a flash, she snatched back a meat bun that was about to go flying and stuffed it into her mouth.
“Stop! Don’t run!”
The three bandits behind her kept hot on her heels, bitterly regretting that they hadn’t brought bows and arrows.
“Help!”
Jiang Yunsui had only just managed to stuff the bun from her mouth back into the basket when she saw a rather steep slope up ahead. The moose charged straight down it.
Jiang Yunsui clung tightly to the moose and howled for help. The moose let out a panicked cry as well.
Not too far away, Ji Yi’s ears twitched.
“That sounds like the little girl’s voice.”
Ji Lu pointed in one direction. “Over there.”
And so the whole group rushed that way.
Once they got closer, they could hear Jiang Yunsui’s screams even more clearly.
Their hearts instantly tightened. Had that little girl been discovered by the mountain bandits?
They immediately sped up.
“Aaaaaah!!! We can’t stop!”
This wasn’t Jiang Yunsui screaming. It was the three mountain bandits.
Without thinking, they had followed the moose down the slope, and then…
Aside from that first step, which they had taken willingly, not a single step after that was voluntary.
One of them even fell flat and went rolling down from above.
When Ji Yi and the others arrived, what they saw was an enormous moose barreling down the slope in a panic. Jiang Yunsui was on its back, clinging to its antlers and screaming until her little voice cracked.
Behind her were three mountain bandits, also screaming their heads off.
“Hurry, save her!”
Ji Lu and the others chased after them.
“Boss, we can’t catch up!”
Up ahead, the moose’s four hooves were practically striking sparks.
For a while, Ji Yi and the others could only run desperately after them. If they hadn’t had some martial foundation, their bodies would have given up in protest too.
In the end, Jiang Yunsui couldn’t hold on. Her entire body went flying.
Mainly because she had been holding on for so long that her arms were sore, and with all that violent jolting too, it was really too much to ask of a Little Mushroom like her.
The instant her body lifted into the air, Jiang Yunsui felt like she saw her great-grandma.
Though she had no idea what her great-grandma looked like.
Ji Yi pushed his qinggong to the limit and finally managed to catch Jiang Yunsui before she hit the ground.
Jiang Yunsui thought dizzily, Am I dead? It doesn’t seem to hurt that much.
“Hiss…”
Ji Yi was nearly crushed into rolling his eyes by the solid little Jiang Yunsui.
“Jiang Yunsui!”
Jiang Yunsui opened her eyes. That voice sounded kind of familiar.
She sat up, only then realizing she was pinning someone beneath her.
“Yi Yi!”
Jiang Yunsui flopped back down and hugged Ji Yi.
“Wuuuwuuu… Yi Yi, thank goodness, you saved me.”
Ji Yi rolled his eyes. “Get off me!”
He felt like one of his ribs had snapped.
“Oh, oh. Sorry about that.”
Jiang Yunsui glanced at the snot and tears she’d rubbed all over Ji Yi’s clothes and wanted to die of embarrassment.
After rolling off him, she tried to stand.
But her legs were weak. And they hurt. She couldn’t get up at all. QAQ
“Boss.”
Ji Lu hurried over and helped Ji Yi up.
“How are you?”
Ji Yi said, “A rib got smashed broken.”
In an instant, several pairs of eyes landed on Jiang Yunsui.
Jiang Yunsui froze.
“I-I-I… should I take a look?”
Ji Lu said, “Little Yunsui, you really made us search everywhere.”
At that, Jiang Yunsui felt even more aggrieved.
“I woke up from a nap and found that not a single person had come to look for me, so I went to the stronghold, and then I overheard that Si Si and the others had run off! They left me behind and ran off!”
Because she had screamed so loudly and for so long earlier, her voice sounded hoarse now.
Ji Lu rubbed his nose. “Well, about that… we all forgot.”
Jiang Yunsui whimpered and grumbled.
Ji Lu’s voice turned resentful. “At least you got to sleep. We haven’t slept from yesterday until now.”
Jiang Yunsui: “…”
Fine, fine. Everyone was miserable.
“Where’s my deer? Where are my buns?”
“And those three men!”
Jiang Yunsui was so angry. If they hadn’t chased her, she wouldn’t have been carried off by the moose, and she wouldn’t have ended up here.
Ji Lu said, “You’d better stop talking. You hurt your throat shouting so loudly earlier.”
Jiang Yunsui also felt that her throat was uncomfortable, and she was already using spores to heal it.
The moose was currently eating grass at a leisurely pace.
After stopping on level ground, it had wandered off and started grazing like nothing had happened.
Huh? What was this white thing? Try a bite.
Chew, chew, chew…
It tasted pretty good.
The three mountain bandits had already been captured. One of them had hit his forehead on a rock while rolling down the slope and passed out.
The other two had their hands tied behind their backs, their faces filled with regret.
All for a bite of food, and now they’d thrown away all three of their lives.
Jiang Yunsui couldn’t walk anymore. The insides of her thighs had been rubbed raw from the moose’s running.
She felt like every bone in her body had been jolted loose from riding that moose.
Now, carried by Ji Lu, she arrived beside the moose.
“My steamed bun!”
That was right. The white thing the moose was eating was Jiang Yunsui’s steamed bun.
Looking at the basket that had once been packed full, and now held only a pitiful few buns, steamed buns, and eggs, she was so devastated she could cry.
The whole reason she’d gone looking for the moose was to make it easier to carry all this food.
And what happened? Just on the way as they fled, more than half of it had fallen off.
Little Mushroom’s heart ached so badly.
Ji Lu, meanwhile, circled the moose, which was quite a bit bigger than a horse, clicking his tongue in wonder.
“This is my first time seeing a deer this big. Good grief, look how sturdy it is.”
The others also found it a rare sight.
Because Jiang Yunsui was there, the moose wasn’t scared enough to run away.
Seeing the basket hanging from the moose’s antlers, Ji Lu helped himself without ceremony, taking a bun and stuffing it into his mouth.
“Oh? You even brought us breakfast. Perfect, since we barely ate anything.”
“Huh, there’s even a beggar’s chicken. Not bad.”
Jiang Yunsui was still wondering whether she should go back and pick up the buns, steamed buns, and eggs that had fallen along the way when she saw Ji Lu crack open the mud ball. A rich aroma instantly spread through the air.
