Chapter 141
Chapter 141
“Little Yunsui, look! So many mushrooms! So many!”
Maybe Jiang Yunsui had wanted mushrooms to grow a little too desperately last night, because when everyone woke up early the next morning and took a look-good heavens, the entire cave was full of them.
Jiang Yunsui glanced up at the porcini mushroom overhead, which was only slightly smaller than her face.
Ah… more new mushrooms had grown.
She yawned. “I see them.”
Inside the cave, the ones growing in the greatest numbers were those big, extra-plump porcini mushrooms.
They were huge, too. This type of mushroom had especially tenacious vitality and could sprout even from cracks in the rocks and walls.
On the pile of firewood in the cave, quite a few shiitake mushrooms and wood ears had grown.
And in some of the damp corners of the cave, a good number of morels had popped up.
“Well, would you look at that. These are good. These taste wonderfully fresh!”
Fat Chef looked at the morels, his face creasing with delight.
“Stop standing around like fools. Pick the mushrooms!”
Aside from Ji Yan’an and Jiang Yunsui, everyone began harvesting mushrooms.
The ones on the ceiling were easy to pick, too. After all, quite a few people present knew lightness skills.
Ji Yan’an pinched Jiang Yunsui’s little head. “Make fewer next time.”
Everyone knew perfectly well where these mushrooms had come from. They simply hadn’t asked Jiang Yunsui.
Ji Yan’an sighed. This child was so silly. She had no idea how to hide things at all.
Jiang Yunsui squatted in a corner and pried a tiny pale-pink Little Mushroom out from a crack in the stone. Her eyes lit up.
“Then do you want to eat it or not?”
She lifted the finger-sized pale-pink Little Mushroom in her hand.
The thing was so tiny that if one didn’t look carefully, one really wouldn’t notice it.
“A mushroom this small, and with that color… It looks poisonous.”
Nanshu stroked his chin as he gave his assessment.
Still, the pale-pink Little Mushroom was slightly translucent. Though small, it was plump and round, genuinely adorable.
Jiang Yunsui huffed in indignation.
“This is a Sleepy Mushroom.”
Most of the mushrooms that grew around her were edible. Sometimes, special mushrooms with unique functions would randomly pop up, too.
There had been the Truth Mushroom before.
This one was the same.
This Little Mushroom was somewhat similar to her true form, though it definitely wasn’t as pretty as her true form.
It was small, but its abilities were not.
A tiny one like this, just a bite, could give someone a good night’s sleep, complete with sweet dreams.
After hearing Jiang Yunsui’s words, everyone was shocked.
Such a tiny mushroom could actually do that?
Shen Qingzhu heard it as well. He thought of the Truth Mushroom from before.
“We’ll know if we try it.”
“Does this thing have any side effects? For example, being impossible to wake after falling asleep, or feeling weak after waking up?”
If eating it merely made someone fall asleep, unable to be woken and weak afterward, then how would it be any different from a knockout drug?
Jiang Yunsui shook her head. “Nope.”
Shen Qingzhu nodded and took the Little Mushroom away. He needed to test it.
If it really worked, he would let Ji Yan’an try it and see if it could be made into medicine. That way, even if Jiang Yunsui wasn’t around in the future, Ji Yan’an could still get a good night’s sleep.
After picking the mushrooms, everyone enjoyed a fragrant breakfast.
Water was boiling in the pot, and everyone was preparing to wipe themselves down and wash their hair.
Suddenly, Heiwa, who had been lying on the ground, barked several times toward the sky.
Fat Chef and the others reacted very quickly.
“Put out the fire!”
In only a few seconds, the fire was extinguished, and Ji Si carried the still-confused Jiang Yunsui up into a tree to hide.
Jiang Yunsui looked blank. “What is it?”
Ji Si pointed at the sky. “Eagles.”
Jiang Yunsui followed his gaze upward, but she didn’t see anything at all.
“Wait.”
Jiang Yunsui: …He really did use as few words as humanly possible.
But they didn’t have to wait long. Soon, Jiang Yunsui spotted two eagles circling in the sky.
They seemed to be searching for something. After flying around this area for a while, they drifted farther away.
Only after the two eagles had completely vanished into the distance and the dogs sent back their signal did they emerge from their hiding place.
Jiang Yunsui was still confused, so Nanshu explained it to her.
“Those two eagles are raised by the Quanrong Tribe. They’re incredibly good at scouting from the sky. Back when we were on the grasslands, no matter where we went, those two eagles would spot us. Before long, the Quanrong Tribe would come after us. It wasn’t until we entered this forest, where there are more places to hide and the eagles’ line of sight was blocked, that we finally shook off the Quanrong Tribe’s relentless pursuit.”
Jiang Yunsui understood. So that was what had happened.
“Sigh. This can’t go on. We can’t hide here for the rest of our lives.”
Song Jin glanced at Shen Qingzhu. “What, the chief’s daughter isn’t to your taste? Why don’t you just give in?”
Shen Qingzhu smiled at him. “The chief’s daughter already has three male companions. She especially likes scholars from the Central Plains. If you went, she’d probably take a liking to you too.”
Song Jin rubbed his nose and fell silent.
On second thought, forget it.
Nanshu looked furious. “That chief’s daughter is shameless beyond belief. She even said that if the Young Master didn’t look so weak and short-lived, she wouldn’t mind taking him too. Pah! As if it was her place to mind or not! And here we thought the Quanrong Tribe helped us out of kindness. We were even planning to send them extra salt, vegetables, tea leaves, and things like that after we went back.”
Who would have thought they had been targeting them all along? Fortunately, their martial skills were exceptional. After resting in the Quanrong Tribe for a few days, they learned the tribe’s true purpose and escaped when the tribe made its move, even taking a few things with them on the way out.
After that, they often snuck back to pay the Quanrong Tribe little visits.
Who told them to chase so relentlessly? If they had things this group needed but lacked, who else were they supposed to visit?
Jiang Yunsui stared at Ji Yan’an, dumbfounded.
There was something like that too?
Ji Yan’an closed his eyes. Nanshu, that idiot!
He lifted his foot and kicked Nanshu with an expressionless face.
With someone like this around, he could forget about keeping his reputation intact.
There was no need to wait for enemies to ruin his name. His own people would make sure he lost face first.
Jiang Yunsui broke into a gleeful giggle.
Ji Yan’an said, “The Quanrong Tribe’s eagles have come. There should be dog teams too. Send some people out to patrol. Don’t let those dogs find us.”
Shen Qingzhu took out some medicinal powder and handed it to them.
“This powder can erase your scent.”
They all knew how sharp a dog’s nose could be.
Everyone going out on patrol sprinkled the powder over themselves.
Jiang Yunsui said, “I’m going too, I’m going too.”
Song Jin dug at his ear. “What are you going for? To drag us down?”
Jiang Yunsui shot him a look. “You’re the one who’d drag everyone down!”
She wouldn’t get discovered.
Fat Chef picked Jiang Yunsui up.
“If you want to go, then go. Come on. If we run into danger, Little Yunsui can just hide herself.”
They were still quite confident in Jiang Yunsui’s ability to do that.
Going out wasn’t just for patrolling. More importantly, they needed to see if there was anything else edible nearby.
As for Song Jin, Ji Yan’an, and the others, they had to discuss how to shake off the Quanrong Tribe for good.
