Chapter 69
Chapter 69
Very soon, Jiang Yunsui’s bad feeling came true.
Feeling the pain of her scalp being yanked upward, Jiang Yunsui howled.
“Ow, ow, ow… Gently, gently! You’re going to pull all my hair out!”
Ji Yan’an was expressionless, but his hands were in utter chaos.
“Oh. Did I not tell you? I don’t know how to do hair.”
So however the little girl’s hair turned out would depend entirely on her luck.
Jiang Yunsui’s eyes nearly rolled back from the tugging.
No. If this kept up, she was going to go bald in her infancy.
Jiang Yunsui hurriedly clutched her hair.
“I was wrong! I don’t want you to do my hair anymore!”
“Wuwuwu… I’m going to find someone else.”
Ji Yan’an clicked his tongue. “Stop moving. I’m almost done.”
In the end, he gave Jiang Yunsui a messy, crooked high ponytail.
More than ten strands of hair had fallen out too.
Jiang Yunsui held the fallen hair in her hands and burst into tears with a loud wail.
“Ji Yan’an, pay me back my hair!”
Ji Yan’an rubbed his nose, feeling a little guilty.
“You were the one who came over on your own.”
Jiang Yunsui was furious. She would remember this debt. When she brewed Ji Yan’an’s medicine later, she was definitely going to add coptis to it-lots and lots of coptis!
The Little Mushroom left in a huff and went to find someone else to do her hair.
This time, she learned her lesson and asked first whether the person knew how.
Song Jin looked at her hair and openly laughed at her.
“Is that hairstyle supposed to let you experience what it’s like to be a beggar?”
Jiang Yunsui: “…”
Damn it. How had Ji Yan’an managed to make it worse the more he brushed it?
In the end, Shen Qingzhu was the one who redid her hair.
He did not know how to style a woman’s hair, but he did know how to style a man’s.
At a time like this, there was no need to be so particular. He gave Jiang Yunsui a high ponytail and secured it with a small wooden hairpin.
“Not bad.”
Shen Qingzhu admired his handiwork.
Jiang Yunsui had been following Ji Yan’an around every day, eating and drinking well, and she had long since lost the scrawny look she had when she first arrived.
Now she was chubby, with very obvious baby fat on her face. Her arms and legs were plump, her skin was very fair, and she had a pair of slightly rounded puppy-dog eyes.
Upon closer look, her pupils were a dark green so deep they were nearly black.
Under the sunlight, that hint of green looked like the finest ink-colored jadeite.
Her forehead was covered by a small fringe of blunt bangs, making her whole person look like a piece of exquisite jade carefully carved into the shape of a milky little doll.
With her simple hairstyle tied up, she even looked a little handsome in a baby-faced way.
Shen Qingzhu patted her hair.
“Not bad. Go on.”
After Jiang Yunsui obediently thanked him, she bounced over to Ji Yan’an.
“Ji Yan’an, Ji Yan’an, look at me.”
She even spun in circles around Ji Yan’an.
Ji Yan’an was drinking hot soup. Hearing her, he lifted his eyelids and glanced at her.
“What?”
Jiang Yunsui gave a small sigh. “Look at my hair. Your hands really are no good.”
Ji Yan’an: “???”
Very good. His gaze gradually turned dangerous. This little thing really couldn’t tell who was in charge anymore, could she?
Jiang Yunsui also knew he would get angry, so the moment she finished speaking, she took off running.
She was not actually stupid. Why would she stand here like an idiot and wait for Ji Yan’an to punish her?
And so, to Ji Yan’an, it seemed like in the blink of an eye, a certain little girl had vanished without a trace.
He took a breath, then looked at Nanshu. “Didn’t you say her stamina was useless?”
Nanshu nodded. “Young Master, her stamina really is no good, but… she’s explosive. When she isn’t tired, she runs faster than a rabbit. But she gets tired very quickly.”
That was the truth.
Jiang Yunsui had not been running for long before she was already exhausted like a dog.
Right now, her small hands were braced against a tree as she panted and stuck out her tongue.
“Oof, I’m exhausted.”
Jiang Yunsui plopped straight down on her butt and looked around.
It wasn’t autumn yet, so most of the fruit hadn’t ripened.
She spotted a peach tree, but its fruit was still green and unripe.
Sitting on the ground, Jiang Yunsui rested until she’d recovered a bit of strength, then kept running deeper into the mountains.
Sure, her stamina was trash, but she recovered fast. Hehe.
And so Jiang Yunsui wandered on, stopping and starting, with no real destination in mind.
When she found edible fruit, she picked it. If it wasn’t ready to eat, she made a mental note to come back once the season arrived.
“So many grapes.”
She came across a huge stretch of grapevines. They were wild grapes, but the clusters didn’t look small at all. Unfortunately, they still weren’t ripe.
Jiang Yunsui was greedy for a taste, so she plucked one and popped it into her mouth. The very next second, her face twisted from the sourness, and she hurriedly spat it back out.
Sigh. She could only wait.
She remembered this place so she could return in a while.
“Mm, now I want grape wine. Sister Yunlu’s grape wine is the best.”
Though every time Little Mushroom drank it, she got tipsy and turned from a little pink mushroom into a little red mushroom, so dizzy she couldn’t even walk straight.
Sister Yunlu had taught her how to brew wine before. Once the grapes ripened, she’d pick some and try making it herself.
Thinking this, Jiang Yunsui stuffed a plum into her mouth and continued on.
“These are almonds. They should be almost ripe, right?”
“And there are pine nuts too.”
Sitting beneath a tree, Jiang Yunsui propped her chin in her two little hands and stared at the big pinecones high up in the towering pine.
All of these tasted delicious once roasted.
Her cheeks were still stuffed with food, and she crunched away. Suddenly, her sharp ears caught a sound.
She looked over, and Little Mushroom’s eyes lit up.
“Pretty fox~”
Seeing a fox with snow-white fur all over, Jiang Yunsui scampered after it happily.
The fox heard her footsteps and grew wary, quickly fleeing.
Jiang Yunsui hurried after it.
“Fox, little fox~” Her babyish voice turned extra sweet.
White Fox glanced back at her.
“Don’t run, don’t run. Let me hug you.”
She missed the feeling of holding little foxes in her arms, as well as little tigers and little bears.
Their mothers had all voluntarily handed their babies over for her to babysit, too.
The fox tilted its head, seeming rather curious about her.
Especially after Imperial Flowing Essence appeared in Jiang Yunsui’s hand. Then the fox stopped running entirely and even took the initiative to come closer.
“Here, eat this.”
White Fox’s ears twitched, and it began yipping softly at Jiang Yunsui.
That delicate little voice-oh, it was definitely acting spoiled with her.
Little Mushroom simply couldn’t resist. Her small hand finally touched the fox fur she had been yearning for.
White Fox also leaned in and took the Imperial Flowing Essence from her hand into its mouth.
“You’re so pretty.”
White Fox was the prettiest of all.
Mm, red foxes were pretty too.
She was fully immersed in the joy of petting the fox when White Fox’s ears suddenly twitched keenly. Something was coming.
It yipped at Jiang Yunsui twice, then led her to a hidden spot and tucked itself away.
The girl and the fox hid together, staying perfectly still. After four or five minutes, the footsteps drew closer and closer.
People.
There were actually people here.
Could they be hunters?
Thinking this, Jiang Yunsui hugged the little fox tighter.
Pressed close to her, its presence would also be reduced a little, so hunters wouldn’t discover it.
And there was more than one set of footsteps.
Jiang Yunsui soon heard their conversation.
“What was Third Chief thinking? That’s an iron mine. We’re really cooperating with the barbarians over there?”
“What else are we supposed to do? You haven’t forgotten who you are, have you? We’re mountain bandits. Don’t tell me you’re thinking of cooperating with the Imperial Court instead?”
