Chapter 51
Chapter 51
This was exactly the outcome Ji Yan’an wanted.
Only, it had gone much more smoothly than he had expected.
At that thought, he glanced at Jiang Yunsui, who was already yawning and looking ready to fall asleep.
She really was his little lucky star.
Jiang Yunsui had been utterly exhausted today. She had run for so long, crawled through a secret passage, and even matched wits with vicious dogs.
Ji Yan’an brought her onto the carriage, and the moment she leaned against him, she practically fell asleep on the spot.
That quality of sleep made a certain someone who often suffered from insomnia feel deeply, bitterly envious.
He did not mind the filthy Little Mushroom in the slightest. Instead, he adjusted her position so that her head rested on his lap.
Then he began to work.
At such a young age, he had already fully displayed the essence of a workaholic.
“Nanmo, tomorrow I will hand the Yaoguang Guard over to you. Take control of Beizhen City in the shortest time possible. Nanshu, you will assist General Tang and the others in spreading word of everything Wang Hu has done…”
Inside the carriage, Nanshu and Nanmo both acknowledged his orders, but their gazes drifted uncontrollably toward Jiang Yunsui, who was pillowed against him.
The Young Master was actually letting a dirty little child lean on him!
The Young Master had changed!
Nanshu wondered if the Young Master’s obsession with cleanliness had finally been cured.
Driven by curiosity, he could not help leaning a little closer toward Ji Yan’an.
In the next instant, someone pushed him from behind. It was not hard, but it sent him pitching forward, and his hand instinctively grabbed the hem of Ji Yan’an’s robe in front of him.
For a moment, the entire carriage fell terrifyingly silent.
The expression on Nanshu’s face froze solid. Under the Young Master’s dangerous stare, he looked as if he were on the verge of tears.
“Young Master, please let me explain.”
“Get out. Walk back.”
Expressionless, Ji Yan’an pointed outside the carriage.
Nanshu: “…”
Fine. The Young Master had not changed.
He was just playing favorites.
Someone’s place in his heart was different now, but that someone was not him!
Nanshu climbed out of the carriage, muttering bitterly to himself. As he passed Nanmo, he shot him a vicious glare.
Did he think Nanshu did not know? That push just now had definitely come from Nanmo, that quiet, wicked-hearted schemer.
Nanmo did not remain in the carriage either. He soon left the compartment and went to sit beside the coachman.
Nanshu rushed over and thumped him twice with his fists.
But with his strength, to Nanmo it felt no different from being scratched.
“Nanmo, you jerk! How dare you push me? If it weren’t for you, I’d still be in the carriage serving the Young Master!”
Holding his sword, Nanmo replied with his usual economy of words, “Weren’t you curious?”
He had merely given Nanshu a hand.
Of course, the main reason was that he himself had been curious too.
Nanshu was so angry his features nearly twisted out of shape. If only he could beat Nanmo in a fight, he really would have loved to pound him into a pig’s head!
When they arrived at the Ji Mansion, Ji Yan’an very much wanted to carry the little girl down from the carriage himself.
Unfortunately, his body would not allow it.
In the end, it was still Nanmo who carried the sleeping Jiang Yunsui down from the carriage.
Nanny Zhou moved quickly, wiping Jiang Yunsui down and cleaning her face as well.
Naturally, she also changed her into a cleaner set of clothes.
Through the entire process, Jiang Yunsui slept soundly and did not wake once.
Nanny Zhou sighed inwardly. If the Young Master had sleep like this, she, Uncle Li, Nanshu, and the others would wake up laughing from their dreams.
Jiang Yunsui slept all the way until the next day.
By the time she got up, Ji Yan’an had already gone out.
She had slept wonderfully. The only problem was that she was a little hungry.
No sooner had she thought that than she caught a delicious scent.
Her nose twitched like a hungry little puppy, and she followed the aroma out of bed and opened the door.
“Woof, woof, woof…”
The moment she opened the door, she met three pairs of big, dark eyes.
Heiwa had brought Zuozuo Youyou to stand guard outside her door.
That was right-Jiang Yunsui had named the two puppies.
There were two of them. The white one was a little female puppy, and she was called Zuozuo.
The brown one was a little male puppy, and he was called Youyou. There was no special meaning behind it. Jiang Yunsui was simply terrible at naming things and had come up with them at random.
“Be good, you two. I’m going to eat. No fussing.”
She blocked the two puppies as they wagged their tiny tails and tried to pounce on her.
Following the delicious aroma, Jiang Yunsui trotted out in high spirits. The food was in the dining hall. There weren’t many dishes on the table, but every single one was something she liked.
When Nanny Zhou saw her, she broke into a smile.
“Suisui is awake. Come eat.”
At the smell of the food, Jiang Yunsui’s stomach was already growling.
She hurried over on her short little legs and greeted Nanny Zhou in a soft, milky voice.
“Hello, Nanny Zhou~”
She climbed onto the stool with practiced ease, hugged the small white bowl in front of her, and held a spoon in her right hand. Her short legs, dangling in midair, were already swinging happily.
“Where’s Ji… the Young Master? Where’s the Young Master?”
She had almost called him Ji Yan’an.
Nanny Zhou said, “The Young Master and Nanshu went out early this morning.”
Jiang Yunsui blinked her bright eyes. Once she figured out what that meant, her pretty puppy-dog eyes widened even more.
“Then… am I the only one eating today?”
Seeing Nanny Zhou nod, she immediately raised her little hands and cheered.
But after only one happy cry, she realized Nanny Zhou was still there. She couldn’t get too carried away.
So she quickly reined in the expression on her little face and tried her best to look sad.
Unfortunately, the corners of her mouth kept lifting, making her expression look a little strange.
“Then that’s such a pity. I can’t eat with the Young Master~”
That little trailing note at the end practically floated upward.
Nanny Zhou pretended she had gone deaf and heard nothing.
“Then I’ll eat by myself~”
No one was sitting across from her, watching her eat, and all the delicious food on the table was hers.
So happy, so happy~
The silly little cowlick sticking up from Little Mushroom’s head after her nap swayed cheerfully along with her movements.
Jiang Yunsui ate until both her cheeks were puffed out, wishing she could learn from squirrels or hamsters and stash all the tasty food in pouches inside her cheeks.
At times like this, Little Mushroom was terribly envious.
She knew a squirrel spirit. Although it hadn’t managed to take human form, it did have some special abilities.
That squirrel’s ability was having two extra spaces inside its cheeks.
They weren’t big-each space was only about ten cubic meters-but every year, it stored away a huge amount of food.
It found far more food than other squirrels, and it didn’t have to worry about forgetting where it had hidden its stash, let alone about it being stolen.
After Jiang Yunsui gnawed the bones clean, she placed them on a porcelain plate to the side.
Once she finished eating, she set the porcelain plate on the floor.
“Heiwa.”
Heiwa, who had been outside the door, came in wagging its tail. Its big muzzle opened, and in just a few bites, it swept all the bones into its mouth.
Crunch, crunch…
Just from the arc of its wagging tail, anyone could tell Heiwa was very pleased with its meal.
The two little puppies pawed at the stool and started yipping.
It was as if they were demanding to know where theirs was.
The puppies’ food was simple too.
Each dog got a bowl of goat’s milk, followed by rice soaked in chicken soup from the table.
That was enough to fill them up.
The dirty dishes on the table were cleared away by maids, while Jiang Yunsui squatted nearby and watched the three dogs finish eating.
“Nanny Zhou, does that mean I can go anywhere I want today?”
She pattered over to Nanny Zhou in tiny steps, lifted her little face, and asked in a tender voice. Her big eyes were filled with anticipation.
Nanny Zhou couldn’t help but pat her head.
“Yes. Just come back when the Young Master returns and calls for you.”
