Chapter 219
Chapter 219
Call Jiang Yunsui unlucky, and she always managed to escape danger and turn disaster into fortune. Call her lucky, and she really was terribly unlucky.
In this pitch-black place, wherever it was, Jiang Yunsui tumbled head over heels until, dizzy all over, she fell into some unknown chamber.
Smack! Her forehead struck something hard.
She clutched her forehead and howled. She wanted to roll around, but the ground was much too lumpy.
“What is this?!”
Grimacing, Jiang Yunsui snatched up the thing that had hit her head, ready to throw it away.
Hm? Why was it so shiny?
She took a closer look and sucked in a breath.
“What a… what a rich place.”
The pain in her forehead was instantly forgotten. She was holding a golden ewer.
It was quite heavy, and the intricate patterns covering it were especially beautiful.
All around her, gold, silver, pearls, and jewels had been heaped into little mountains.
There was so much treasure that she could have lain on top and rolled around without falling off.
“So much!”
Little Mushroom’s eyes sparkled as she picked up an enormous luminous pearl.
It gave off a faint glow and was of superb quality.
Jiang Yunsui exclaimed in delight, then unceremoniously rummaged out several strings of pearls she liked-pink, gold, white, black…
She hung so many around her neck that it felt heavy, then sought out pretty rings and filled all ten fingers with them. She put ornaments in her hair, around her legs and arms, and at her waist…
She had turned herself into an entire jewelry rack, radiating prosperity from head to toe.
When there was finally nowhere left to hang anything, Jiang Yunsui tried to stand. With another smack, the weight dragged her straight back down.
“So heavy.”
But she couldn’t bear to throw any away.
Her little face scrunched up. Taking a deep breath to encourage herself, Jiang Yunsui forced herself upright and picked a random direction.
There was no map in this unknown place, so she could only trust her luck.
One moment she was crawling through a hole, the next climbing stairs.
She even passed coffins along the way. Draped in glittering gold, she clasped her hands and bowed to them.
“Sorry, sorry. Pardon the disturbance.”
Leaving the treasure behind, however, was out of the question.
Dead people couldn’t use these treasures anymore. Since she had tumbled all the way here, it proved she and the treasure were destined for each other.
She needed to find Si Si and the others quickly and bring them here, so they could be destined for the treasure too.
“Which way should I go?”
“This way? That doesn’t seem right.”
“Eeny, meeny, miny…”
Jiang Yunsui muttered nonstop as she went. In the silent tomb, hers was the only voice.
Well, hers and the sounds made by certain small animals.
Spiders, centipedes, millipedes, snakes…
There were so many of them.
Each time Jiang Yunsui encountered them, she crept around by another route. She might have reduced her own presence, but everything hanging off her had an overwhelming presence of its own.
Occasionally she was still discovered, but the creatures didn’t seem terribly interested in her. They gathered around her, sniffing or giving her an exploratory prod.
Jiang Yunsui stood perfectly still like a jewelry rack.
After enduring untold hardships, she finally heard a rooster crow.
It was Qianqian and Houhou!
Jiang Yunsui hurried toward the sound, all the ornaments on her body jingling and clattering.
“Qianqian! Houhou!”
“Si Si, Liu Liu, are you here?”
“I’m over here!”
They must not have been far away. The men and roosters fighting the venomous creatures inside the tomb heard her voice and immediately ran toward her.
“Here! I’m here!” Jiang Yunsui cried as soon as she heard footsteps.
Ji Si and the others rushed over. Ji Si scooped her up-or tried to. He couldn’t lift her.
He succeeded on his second attempt. She was unbelievably heavy.
Ji Lu looked her over and hissed. “Jiang Yunsui, what in the world are you wearing?”
“Treasure!” Jiang Yunsui shouted.
She threw several globs of Imperial Flowing Essence toward the swarm of spiders.
The spiders-especially the biggest one-went mad at the scent and chased after it. At last, the group shook off their pursuit.
“This way. I think this is the direction we came from.”
They twisted and turned through the tomb passages, encountering plenty of other venomous insects and snakes along the way.
“This has to be the tomb of some southern prince or noble. They really do love raising all sorts of strange creatures. Even after death, they need a whole pack of pets,” Ji Lu grumbled the entire way.
Fortunately, they had acquired abundant experience dealing with such creatures. Otherwise, they would have ended up like the other people they found along the passageways: dead and reduced to piles of bones.
At last they found the exit and hurriedly crawled out.
Zuozuo and Youyou, waiting beside the hole, barked excitedly when they heard them.
Jiang Yunsui was at the front. She only had to bend slightly to walk through the tunnel, but the adults behind her had to crawl.
“Zuozuo, Youyou, pull me up!”
The two dogs reached their paws down. Jiang Yunsui caught hold of them with her heavily burdened hands, and they hauled her out.
Clack. Clatter…
Something fell off her.
Behind her, Ji Si silently picked the pieces off the ground and stuffed them into his robe. His clothes were already bulging with all the things Jiang Yunsui had dropped.
Farther back, Ji Lu hollered, “Little Four, leave some for me! Let me experience what it’s like to pick up gold too!”
It looked incredibly satisfying.
When everyone was finally out, Jiang Yunsui collapsed onto the bamboo leaves, panting. The pearl strands and gold collars around her neck weighed heavily against her chest.
Ji Si and Ji Lu emerged and immediately spotted the dazzling treasure all over her.
Lin Lang, Lin Ran, and Lin Shitou, who had never seen such wealth before, stared with wide eyes, utterly dumbfounded.
What in the world was all that?!
Ji Lu exclaimed, “This isn’t fair! We all entered the same tomb. Why did we run into spiders, centipedes, and venomous snakes, while you ran into treasure?”
There was so much hanging off her that he couldn’t even count it-and that was after she had dropped plenty along the way.
Jiang Yunsui rose proudly and gave herself a shake. Jade, gemstone, and gold rings tumbled from her fingers.
She shook again, and luminous pearls hidden inside her clothes rolled out. Two of them, both of excellent quality.
Ji Si and Ji Lu stared.
Even Ji Si couldn’t deny that he was envious now.
“Listen, after I fell down there…” Jiang Yunsui began.
Little Mushroom recounted how she had tumbled all the way into the treasure chamber, adding her own sound effects-bang, crash, crack-and other embellishments as she went.
“And then I fell into a room that was completely full of gold, silver, and jewels! There were huge piles of treasure, but this was all I could carry out. It was so heavy I almost couldn’t walk.”
Ji Lu shed tears of envy.
“If taking a few falls could get me this much treasure, I’d gladly fall too. I’d fall several more times, no problem.”
The more he thought about it, the more cheated he felt. “No, this won’t do. We went all the way into that tomb and came out empty-handed. What a loss! I have to go back and look around again.”
