Chapter 204
Chapter 204
Jiang Yunsui turned her head. Wen Chong had put his mask back on and stood in the shadows nearby, arms folded as he watched her coldly.
She glared at him. Instead of panicking and running for the entrance as he expected, she plunged into the crowd of madmen.
Their skin had peeled away, exposing blood-red flesh. Revolting sores covered their bodies, their eyes had turned crimson, and they bit anything they could seize.
Many people had only recently been thrown inside and were frantically fleeing, screaming in pain.
Jiang Yunsui ran toward the thickest part of the crowd. In the blink of an eye, Wen Chong frowned.
The child was gone.
“Where is she? Find her!”
“How strange. Why can’t we find her?”
Even Wen Chong’s subordinates were baffled.
He frowned. The cave was large and chaotic, and none of them dared enter under these conditions.
“Forget it,” Wen Chong said coldly. “She can’t escape anyway.”
“Have all the beggars been sent back?”
“Don’t worry, Young Master. They’ll fall ill before long. Once they scratch or bite anyone in the city, the poison will spread.”
Wen Chong hummed. “Watch this place. Tonight, bring out anyone who’s wounded but still alive and send them back.”
“Yes!”
Crouching like a mushroom in one corner, Jiang Yunsui heard every word.
How hateful! She had thought she had run into ordinary kidnappers. Instead, she had met a pack of mad perverts!
These people had to be connected to Wushan Cavern.
The cave’s barred gate was locked. Jiang Yunsui tried to see if she could squeeze through the gap.
The attempt proved she had underestimated herself.
Ha. As if she were that thin.
Even the skinny Little Beggar could not have slipped through, much less her.
What could she do? So many people in the cave were being chased and bitten.
Jiang Yunsui’s fighting ability was practically nonexistent. She could not help at all.
“Hiss, hiss…”
Little Pink slithered out from some hidden corner.
“Little Pink!”
Jiang Yunsui’s eyes lit up.
“Try biting one of them?”
She took Little Pink over to one of the madmen.
How were these creatures any different from evil ghosts?
Little Pink bit him, then released him in disgust.
Her venom had no effect whatsoever.
Jiang Yunsui worried. What now?
Wait. She still had something on her.
Those hallucinogenic spores.
She had not brought any incense, but she did have pollen. That should work too.
Jiang Yunsui released the spores and pollen, aiming mainly at the guards outside.
She watched nervously.
Before long, their eyes became unfocused.
Her own eyes brightened. It worked!
Once the guards fell into hallucinations, Jiang Yunsui sent Little Pink to steal the keys.
The snake crawled to the guard carrying them and struggled mightily before she finally dragged the keys away.
Jiang Yunsui clenched her fists and cheered her on. “You can do it, Little Pink! You’re an amazingly powerful little snake!”
Under Little Mushroom’s encouragement, the pink snake gradually forgot her limitations. Her tiny body hauled the enormous ring of keys with heroic effort.
At last she reached the gate and collapsed in exhaustion.
Jiang Yunsui picked up both snake and keys.
She happily prepared to unlock the gate, only to discover… she could not reach.
On tiptoe, she was tall enough, but the keys were outside and her arms were too short. Her fingers barely touched the lock. She fumbled for ages without getting the key inside.
Jiang Yunsui’s face fell.
Was this not bullying a mushroom?
She decisively ran back to find help.
She spotted a relatively young man kicking away the madman attacking him.
You!
Jiang Yunsui ran over and tugged at him. Still fighting on instinct, the man immediately kicked at her.
She dodged in a hurry.
“What are you doing?”
The man clutched the wound on his shoulder and panted. “Get away from me!”
Jiang Yunsui raised the keys and bounced rapidly. “Look, look! I have the keys. Hurry and open the gate!”
At the sight of them, the man no longer cared whether this was some trick. He seized the keys with one hand, scooped up Jiang Yunsui with the other, and ran for the entrance.
“Everyone still alive, get over here! Hold those monsters back together while I open the gate!”
The cave was already chaos. At his shout, the survivors rushed toward the gate as if grasping their last hope.
The man opened it. “Quickly! Get out!”
“Don’t let the monsters escape. Anyone strong enough, grab a weapon and cut them down!”
Creatures like these absolutely could not be allowed outside.
Only a few people possessed that courage. Most simply fled in a single frantic wave.
Several monsters lunged at them. The man, his companions, and a handful of brave young survivors fought them back, then hurriedly locked the gate again.
“Let’s go.”
No one knew why the guards had collapsed, but escape mattered most.
Jiang Yunsui reached the cave entrance and looked around. She had no idea which way to go.
“Why are you still here?”
The man she had asked for help emerged behind her.
Sudden screams and uproar rose from down the mountain.
Their captors had discovered the escape.
“Run!”
With no time to think, the man scooped up Jiang Yunsui and called for the others to follow.
They seemed familiar with the forest. After taking many winding paths, they successfully shook their pursuers.
“Young Master, are we going home?”
Hatred filled the man’s eyes. “Of course. I’ll have Father bring men and kill everyone at that place!”
Jiang Yunsui wriggled twice in his hold.
“I-I need to go back to the city.”
Only then did Lin Mu remember he was still carrying someone.
“Come home with us first. If you’re alone, they’ll only catch you again.”
Jiang Yunsui wanted to say she would not be caught.
Lin Mu refused to listen and carried her deeper into the mountains.
Two hours later, they arrived before a mountain stockade.
Jiang Yunsui’s stomach: Rumble, rumble…
So hungry~
“The Young Master is back! The Young Master and the others are back!”
The guards at the stockade entrance cheered.
Hearing the cry, the residents rushed out joyfully.
“Young Master! Shitou! You’re hurt. What happened?”
“Didn’t you leave with goods from the mountains to trade?”
Lin Mu’s face was pale.
“Take me to Father first.”
“The chief is receiving important guests.”
They reached a stilt house and pushed open the door.
“Father, something terrible has happened. A group of madmen outside are refining Human Gu!”
“What?!”
The chief, who had been speaking with his guests, shot to his feet. His expression turned grim.
Refining Human Gu was different from merely using human bodies to nurture gu insects.
A Human Gu was a person refined into a poisonous creature – a mindless, venomous puppet controlled by another.
Jiang Yunsui struggled to raise her head.
Wait. You ran this far while injured and still have not put me down. Do you think I’m a little shoulder bag?
“Huh? Ji Yan’an?!”
