Chapter 99

It was the one she had asked that old man to weave for her earlier.

The grass-woven puppy and bunny had been given to Zuozuo and Youyou, and they were still sitting in their doghouse now.

The Little Mushroom was for herself.

As for the fox, that was for Ji Yan’an. But after she came back that day, she had been busy dealing with all the saplings and seeds she had bought, and she had forgotten all about it.

Hehe. Ji Yan’an was just like a big fox.

Jiang Yunsui took out the two little grass-woven toys and set them on the bed first.

“Nanny Zhou, can you put a hanging cord on these two toys?”

Nanny Zhou picked them up and looked them over. “Yes.”

“This one needs a pink cord, and that one needs a blue cord.”

Then Jiang Yunsui hid the box containing her private savings under the bed, clapped her hands, and sat obediently off to the side to watch Nanny Zhou work.

Once the cords were fastened to the grass toys, she grabbed them and ran out to find Ji Yan’an.

“Ji Yan’an, this is for you.”

Because of his health, Ji Yan’an handled most matters from home.

Most of the time, Fan He, Song Jin, and the others were run off their feet outside, then sorted through everything and brought it all to him.

Of course, he still went out occasionally. Some matters had to be investigated and seen in person.

Even so, there was a great deal to do every day, and they were desperately short on manpower.

Now Ji Yan’an had turned his attention to the exiles.

Laws were written by those in power for the people beneath them.

How a case was judged, and who was judged, could all be decided with a single word from those above.

As for those sentenced and exiled, given the current emperor’s rotten conduct, Ji Yan’an did not believe they had all truly committed unforgivable crimes.

He would have people investigate thoroughly. Those who really were guilty would be dealt with as they should be.

Those who had been wronged, or who had not committed any serious offense and still had useful abilities, could be brought over if there was a way.

There were too few people here who could read and handle affairs.

Training a new group would take time, and he could not afford to wait.

“What is this?”

Looking at the little object placed in front of him, he set down the brush in his hand, picked it up, and looked at Jiang Yunsui.

“A little grass-woven toy.”

Jiang Yunsui lifted her own mushroom to show him.

“Mine is Little Mushroom.”

Ji Yan’an gave a soft hum and rose to stretch his body.

“We’re leaving tomorrow. Have you packed your things?”

“We’re leaving tomorrow? Then I’ll go find Fat Chef and have him make some more food.”

With that, she ran off.

Ji Yan’an followed at an unhurried pace.

After spending so long dealing with official business, he needed to get out and walk around more too.

Nanshu quickly held up an oil-paper umbrella over him.

“Fat Chef, I still want fried dough twists, puffed rice candy…”

Her little mouth opened, and she listed off quite a few snacks. Fat Chef grew dizzy just listening and simply covered her mouth with his hand.

“Three more at most.”

Jiang Yunsui gave an “oh.” “Then I want little fried dough twists, puffed rice candy, and crispy rice cakes.”

Actually, she had wanted to say little cookies, but cookies seemed like they had to be baked, and there was nothing here that could bake cookies.

Then forget it.

Of course, Jiang Yunsui was the one who told him how to make all those things.

Fat Chef smacked his lips. What on earth was in this child’s little head? How had she come up with so many things to eat?

“Fine, I’ve got it. The roasted seeds over there are about done. Go eat some yourself.”

Jiang Yunsui happily grabbed a handful of seeds and walked out while eating them.

Those two little chicks liked eating these too.

As she walked, Jiang Yunsui suddenly spotted a cat.

It looked like the black cat from before.

Jiang Yunsui immediately followed after it.

“Kitty, kitty…”

“Don’t run away. I have food for you.”

The black cat glanced at her, then slipped straight into a little hole.
The hole led straight toward Jiang Yunsui’s residence.

It was rather small, hidden behind a clump of grass. If you didn’t push the grass aside, you wouldn’t notice it at all.

Jiang Yunsui compared the opening to her own head. Mm. She could squeeze through.

So without the slightest hesitation, she plunged in headfirst.

Her head went in. Her hands went in. And then she got stuck.

“Huh???”

She couldn’t get through. Everything below her shoulders was wedged in place.

After struggling for a while and confirming she really couldn’t squeeze past, Jiang Yunsui decided to back out.

But…

“Wuu… I can’t get out. I’m stuck QAQ.”

“Help! Somebody save me…”

“Woof, woof, woof!”

The two dogs barked so anxiously that they even started scraping at the corner of the wall with their paws, trying to widen the hole so she could get out.

“Zuozuo Youyou, hurry and go get someone.”

Jiang Yunsui had struggled so much that sweat was beading on her forehead.

“Woof…”

Zuozuo ran off first to call for help.

Thanks to Jiang Yunsui occasionally feeding them a bit of Imperial Flowing Essence, the two puppies were rather clever.

Ji Yan’an had gone out for a stroll to relax his mind when Zuozuo rushed over, grabbed his clothes in her mouth, and turned to run back.

Riiip…

Zuozuo stared blankly at the piece of fabric in her mouth.

Ji Yan’an was yanked forward and nearly stumbled to the ground. Fortunately, Nanmo, that reliable guard, reacted quickly and caught him in time.

His clothes, however, were not so lucky.

At this moment, there was nothing left of Ji Yan’an’s usual calm, aloof air.

His gaze looked like it wanted to murder a dog.

“We’re having dog meat today!”

Zuozuo: “…”

“Woof, woof, woof!”

She bounced anxiously in place.

Nanshu pointed at Zuozuo, his finger trembling. “Are you even cursing at us now?”

Ji Yan’an took a deep breath and straightened his tattered clothes.

He kept reminding himself that this was Jiang Yunsui’s dog.

Sure enough, like owner, like pet!

“Follow her and see what’s going on.”

For the dog to be this anxious, perhaps something had happened to that little girl.

He called over a guard. “Bring me an outer robe.”

“Yes.”

Ji Yan’an and the others followed Zuozuo to the hole Jiang Yunsui had tried to crawl through.

At a glance, they saw a certain someone with her little bottom sticking up and her short legs flailing.

“Zuozuo, did you bring someone?”

Jiang Yunsui’s voice came through the wall, somewhat muffled.

“Pfft…”

Nanshu was the first who couldn’t hold back his laughter.

“Good heavens, what possessed you to crawl into such a tiny hole?”

The moment Jiang Yunsui heard his voice, she hurriedly shouted in her little voice, “Nanshu, stop laughing! Hurry and save me QAQ!”

Embarrassing was embarrassing. It wasn’t like this was the first time anyway.

Ji Yan’an glanced at the high wall and beckoned to Nanmo.

“Take me over.”

Nanmo carried Ji Yan’an and easily leaped over the high wall, landing in front of Jiang Yunsui.

Jiang Yunsui’s eyes lit up when she saw them, but then she suddenly burst out laughing.

“Hahaha… Ji Yan’an, your clothes! How did they end up like that?”

The pitiful Little Mushroom still had the leisure to laugh at someone else.

Ji Yan’an crouched down, his cool fingers pinching her chubby little cheek.

“Your dog tore my clothes like this.”

Jiang Yunsui: “…”

Oh no.

She couldn’t laugh anymore.

“Why aren’t you laughing now?”

Ji Yan’an pinched her little face and asked unhurriedly, “Were you born not liking to laugh?”

Jiang Yunsui: QAQ.

Her milky little voice trembled as she said, “Y-you should go find the dog. Don’t come after me.”

Sorry, Zuozuo. I don’t want to be punished with handwriting practice again.
