Chapter 161
Chapter 161
The Verdant Jade Mushroom did not work instantly, but within a minute or two, although no one knew whether Xiao Wu’s fever had broken, the wounds on his back stopped bleeding.
“It stopped! Centurion Lin, look!”
Even with their voices lowered, their excitement was unmistakable.
Centurion Lin touched Xiao Wu’s forehead. Perhaps it was his imagination, but it seemed cooler.
Xiao Wu’s lips moved. He was too weak to be heard until Centurion Lin leaned close.
Water.
“Find water!”
Water was hard for slaves to obtain. They had only a little melted snow, secretly boiled and stored in a cracked bowl.
Before anyone fetched it, Jiang Yunsui pulled down a waterskin.
Hehe… another Barbarian “contribution.”
“Here.”
Every eye lit up.
Though Jiang Yunsui’s face, hair, and clothes were filthy, to them she was the cutest, kindest, prettiest, most generous child alive.
The water was clean and warm, perfect for Xiao Wu. He fell asleep after drinking, his expression far less pained.
They took turns tending him.
Centurion Lin suddenly hugged Jiang Yunsui. A man in his thirties wept with reddened eyes.
“Thank you. Truly… thank you.”
They had nothing else to offer.
Jiang Yunsui wrinkled her nose. He smelled a little.
Well, they had no clothes to change into, sweated through hard labor every day, and slept in a sheep pen. Of course they smelled.
Little Mushroom did not push him away. Forget it. They were her people, and a grown man was crying so sadly. The magnanimous Little Mushroom would overlook the smell.
“This is for you.”
With obvious distaste for the heavy saber, she shoved it into his arms. She had carried it all this way and even worked up a sweat.
Only then did Centurion Lin notice it.
His pupils contracted. “Wh-where did you get this?!”
He pinched himself hard. It hurt. This was no dream.
Shuanzi approached, saw the saber, and nearly shouted. Centurion Lin clapped a hand over his mouth.
Even muffled, Shuanzi pointed excitedly.
A weapon! A weapon!
“I know. Quiet, unless you want the Barbarians here.”
Shuanzi lowered his voice, eyes blazing. “Centurion, let me see it.”
How long had it been since he touched a weapon? With this, he could at least take several Barbarians down with him.
Centurion Lin reluctantly handed it over.
Shuanzi stealthily drew the blade. “A Barbarian curved saber!”
The others crowded close, whispering and eager to touch it.
Before Jiang Yunsui could mention the rest, Centurion Lin stroked her hair.
“You must be a little immortal sent by Heaven to save us.”
Jiang Yunsui glanced down. Was there any little immortal this dirty?
She touched her hair and missed Nanshu again. He had always tied it for her.
“There are more over there.”
She pointed at the haystack.
Centurion Lin’s eyes brightened. Searching like a treasure hunter, he soon found a short blade, shorter even than a child’s arm. He nearly laughed aloud.
The others’ eyes went wide. “Centurion! Centurion, where did you find that? Are there more?”
The repeated cries of “Centurion” made his head ache. “Enough. Stop calling me.”
Centurion Lin pulled Jiang Yunsui close. “From today on, she is our savior. If we escape, we will serve only her for the rest of our lives.”
Jiang Yunsui stared blankly. “Huh?”
Had she stolen men from her master?
“No, no! I’m only a maid.”
Though admittedly not a very maid-like one.
Centurion Lin smiled. “I don’t think you’re an ordinary maid.”
Miraculous healing mushrooms, food, weapons, and an ability to move unseen – none of it could be coincidence. The Young Master must know she was extraordinary.
Only then did Centurion Lin learn her name.
The others hunted through the hay like treasure seekers. Most weapons were daggers, light enough for Jiang Yunsui to carry. The curved saber had been her heaviest haul.
Even one dagger delighted them.
They surrounded her with sincere but repetitive praise.
“Little Yunsui, you’re more amazing than anyone I’ve ever met.”
Shuanzi offered to fix her hair. Without a comb, he used his fingers, arranging it into two simple buns. It looked far better than before.
His stomach growled, but everyone was used to hunger.
“Bring out yesterday’s food,” Centurion Lin ordered. “If we’re escaping, we need strength to fight.”
Someone opened the hiding pit and froze.
“Centurion! Come quickly!”
Centurion Lin hurried over, stared, then immediately looked toward Jiang Yunsui.
“Don’t make a fuss.”
He returned with several roasted flatbreads.
“Did you bring these too?”
