Chapter 121
Chapter 121
Old Ma truly knew how to raise horses.
With one glance, he could spot all sorts of problems on a horse, then come up with a way to fix them.
Under Jiang Yunsui’s soothing and Old Ma’s care, the wild horses’ tempers gradually began to mellow.
The ones that had their hooves trimmed, in particular, kept lowering their heads to stare curiously at their now-comfortable hooves.
It was getting late. After treating several horses in a row, Old Ma’s back and waist were aching.
“I’m getting old. If this were back when I was young, I could have kept going.”
“Still, today went very smoothly.”
His gaze turned to Jiang Yunsui.
A kind smile immediately spread across his face.
“Little one, how about raising horses with me? Look at how much these horses like you. You like them a lot too, don’t you?”
Fat Chef stopped Jiang Yunsui. “I say, Old Ma, she’s still so young, and you want to lure her over here to spend every day dealing with horses? Is that really appropriate?”
“Why wouldn’t it be? Dealing with horses is wonderful. Simple, too. If you’re good to a horse, the horse is good to you. Besides, horses are so beautiful, so lovely to look at.”
“That’s you. My Little Yunsui isn’t going to spend all day with horses. She has other things to do.”
Jiang Yunsui also said, “Grandpa Ma, I’ll come visit you and them.”
Mm, but staying here to raise horses was out of the question.
She still wanted to go out and play. She still wanted to find Ji Yan’an.
Old Ma looked deeply regretful. “All right, then. But you have to come often.”
Jiang Yunsui left together with Fat Grandpa and the others.
After that, they made another round through Dog Camp before finally returning home.
Over the next few days, every night, Jiang Yunsui could hardly wait to cultivate in the courtyard.
Every time she woke up, Zuozuo Youyou and Heiwa would be gathered around her. The two chicks had grown a little bigger, and the down on their bodies had been replaced by stiff feathers. At long last, they didn’t look quite so ugly-cute anymore.
Their feathers were black and red, and small red combs had grown on top of their heads.
“They’re both little roosters.”
Jiang Yunsui stroked the chicks’ combs.
She had still been thinking that once they started laying eggs, she would be able to eat eggs.
“Meow~”
At the sound of a cat’s meow, Jiang Yunsui immediately looked over in delight.
“Kitty, you’re here again?”
These past few days, almost every time she opened her eyes, she could see Black Cat.
She finally understood why Black Cat had never cared about her Imperial Flowing Essence.
Because this fellow had been coming over every night while she cultivated to freeload her Imperial Flowing Essence!
She planted her little hands on her hips and lifted her chin.
“You’ve already been freeloading my Imperial Flowing Essence, and you still won’t let me pet you? That’s too much.”
Black Cat stared at her for a while with its emerald-green eyes.
At last, it jumped down from the wall, then gracefully leaped into Jiang Yunsui’s arms.
Before Jiang Yunsui even had time to feel delighted, Black Cat’s seemingly slender body turned out to be surprisingly solid. Its weight pressed her straight down, and she landed on her bottom.
The elegant Black Cat was dragged down with her and fell to the ground too.
However, it reacted quickly and stood up at once. Then, with its fur slightly puffed up, it looked at her accusingly.
So weak, yet so eager. If you can’t even hold me, what were you calling for?
Jiang Yunsui, still sitting on the ground: “…”
She hadn’t expected that either.
“How was I supposed to know you were that heavy?”
Black Cat rolled its eyes, jumped back onto the wall, and ran off.
Jiang Yunsui looked regretful. Although she had fallen over, the kitty she had held just now had been fluffy, soft, and squishy. It had felt really, really nice.
“Jiang Yunsui.”
Someone was calling her, and the voice sounded oddly familiar.
Jiang Yunsui poked her little head out from the weeds and looked toward the gate.
The moment she saw Shen Qingzhu, her eyes lit up.
“Shen Qingzhu, over here! I’m over here!”
She quickly hopped up and down to make her presence known.
Shen Qingzhu was genuinely startled by the state of the courtyard.
He had watched those trees being planted back when they were still saplings. How had they grown this tall in such a short time?
And what was with all the weeds in the courtyard that were taller than Jiang Yunsui?
“What happened to your courtyard?”
Jiang Yunsui kneaded her little hands together, huffing and puffing, not knowing how to explain.
Shen Qingzhu understood at once. This little one must have done something again.
“All right, I won’t ask.”
Jiang Yunsui immediately brightened, her eyes curving as she smiled. She craned her neck and peeked behind him, as if searching for someone.
Seeing her like that, Shen Qingzhu smiled and tapped her on the forehead.
“The matter in Qiusha isn’t over yet. Ji Yan’an hasn’t come back.”
Jiang Yunsui was instantly a little disappointed. But then she thought of Ji Yan’an’s health and anxiously tugged at his sleeve.
“But if you’re not there, what if Ji Yan’an gets sick?”
“He already is.”
Jiang Yunsui’s eyes went wide. “Then why did you come?”
“To find you.”
Shen Qingzhu crouched down. “Ji Yan’an isn’t doing well right now. Only when you’re by his side can he eat and rest, so I have to take you there.”
“Qiusha is at war. It’s very dangerous…”
“I’m not scared.”
Before he could finish, Jiang Yunsui hurriedly spoke up.
“I’m really good at hiding.”
She even lifted her little chin with some pride.
“Even if there’s a war, as long as I hide, no one can find me.”
Shen Qingzhu laughed and patted her head.
“Very good. Then pack up. We’ll leave right away.”
Jiang Yunsui nodded hard. “Okay!”
Shen Qingzhu watched her bounce twice in place, then dive headfirst into the weeds.
Him: ???
What was she doing?
“Shen Qingzhu, here, take this.”
She pulled a mushroom out of the weeds and raised it with both little hands to give to Shen Qingzhu.
It was white and looked like a small steamed bun-a button mushroom.
Shen Qingzhu: “…”
“So there’s another kind of mushroom now?”
Jiang Yunsui nodded, her eyes sparkling.
Shen Qingzhu laughed despite himself. “All right. Today we’ll try the button mushrooms you grew.”
“Then let’s look together. There are lots more in the grass.”
Button mushrooms were much easier to pick. There was no need to dig deep underground.
All they had to do was part the weeds, and they could see the surprises hidden inside.
The short, plump, snow-white button mushrooms were especially lovable.
Shen Qingzhu also spotted some termite mushrooms, as well as tasty mushrooms pushing up little mounds of soil.
He couldn’t help glancing at Jiang Yunsui several more times.
This little one really might be a Little Mushroom spirit.
But no matter what she was, they had all chosen to protect this innocent, muddleheaded little girl.
They turned a blind eye to what made her special, and even helped cover for her.
“What about all these weeds?”
Jiang Yunsui said, “Feed them to the horses.”
Her little mouth chattered away as she told him about the last time they had gone hunting and somehow brought back a herd of wild horses.
Shen Qingzhu said, “…Your days really are quite eventful.”
By the time Jiang Yunsui crawled out of the weeds again, her little face was already filthy.
“We have this many today. How many days will it take us to get to Qiusha?”
“What, are you planning to save some for the Young Master?”
Jiang Yunsui said, “And Nanshu, Song Jin, Yi Yi, Er Er, San San…”
After counting every person she knew one by one, Jiang Yunsui glanced at the mushrooms in the basket.
“Will there be enough?”
