Chapter 149
Chapter 149
“Say what you will, but goats that can climb cliffs really are something else. They taste pretty good.”
Jiang Yunsui nodded vigorously.
The wild greens and wild chicken egg soup was good too.
The wild greens had been prepared so they barely tasted bitter at all.
Even Ji Yan’an ate quite a bit today.
Once everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, they busied themselves packing everything away. Suddenly, they heard the cry of an eagle.
They looked up and saw two black specks flying off into the distance.
Jiang Yunsui clutched at her chest.
“What’s wrong?” Ji Yan’an asked.
Jiang Yunsui looked at him with her big, dark eyes. “My conscience hurts a tiny bit.”
Ji Yan’an: “…”
Fat Chef patted her little shoulder and burst out laughing.
“What’s there to hurt over? Even if you didn’t take those eggs, once they turned into dead eggs after a while, the eagles would’ve abandoned them. The golden eagles would still be sad then, wouldn’t they? If you take them back, at least they still have a chance of living.”
And just like that, a certain Little Mushroom, whose conscience had been aching a moment ago, was comforted and no longer hurt.
“Let’s hurry up and go. This grand canyon… which way do we go?”
Ji Yan’an said, “We’ll get out first, then decide.”
Walking was fine and all, but as they went, they had two people dragging them down.
Jiang Yunsui planted her little hands on her hips and looked proudly at Ji Yan’an and Nanshu.
“Haha, I walk faster than you!”
After saying that, she even ran circles around them, looking rather irritating.
Say what you would, but Jiang Yunsui had previously been forced to run laps in the courtyard, and whenever she went out, she was always darting around on her own. When she got tired, she would simply clear away her fatigue herself.
After all that training, it had actually turned out to be pretty useful.
Ji Yan’an had always been physically weak. After walking for a while, he needed to rest.
Later, Nanmo crouched down and carried him on his back, and only then did their speed pick up a little.
Then it was Nanshu’s turn to start wheezing.
He was panting so hard he sounded like a bellows.
“Quick, one of you… huff, huff… give me… a hand.”
Fat Chef walked over beside him and patted his shoulder.
“You’re not in great shape, little brother.”
That one pat sent him sprawling straight to the ground.
And then he could not get back up again.
He thoroughly committed to the principle of staying down wherever he fell.
He could not walk anymore. He really could not walk anymore.
Fat Chef awkwardly withdrew his hand.
Jiang Yunsui crouched down, holding a blade of grass as she poked Nanshu’s face.
“Nanshu, then how did you run when you escaped from the Quanrong Tribe?”
Little Mushroom asked out of curiosity.
Nanshu rolled himself over and lay on his back.
At her question, his expression twisted a little.
How did he run?
He had been dragged along by others. The wind had blown his face out of shape, one of his shoes had flown off, and his hair had been whipped into a chicken’s nest.
“Do not bring up the past.”
After catching his breath, he said it with a solemn expression.
Let that dark history cease to exist.
“We can’t just keep hoofing it all the way out of here, can we? How long would that take?”
Song Jin rubbed his fingers over that golden feather.
“If I didn’t see wrong earlier, wasn’t there a herd of horses running over that way? The only thing is, we don’t know how far they’ve gone.”
Of course, without saddles, stirrups, or reins, the horses definitely would not be easy to ride.
But it was still better than relying on their own two legs.
“Young Master, we’ll go catch the horses now.”
Ji Yan’an nodded. “Go.”
Jiang Yunsui raised her hand. “I want to go too!”
Song Jin rapped her on the head.
“What are you going for? They’ll be busy catching horses. How would they have time to watch you?”
Jiang Yunsui was unconvinced. “Last time, I was the one who brought back that huge herd of horses.”
“Be good. You can’t recreate what happened last time.”
The hidden guard members were to make it quick. Once they received the order, they vanished in a few movements.
The rest of them stayed where they were to rest and wait.
“All right, stop sulking. Come on, let’s look around and see if we can find something to eat.”
Fat Chef scooped Little Mushroom up and set her on his shoulder.
Little Mushroom, who had been sulking, immediately cheered up again.
She really was far too easy to coax.
With an egg hanging in front of her chest, Jiang Yunsui looked a little clumsy when she walked.
Round and plump, from behind she looked just like a silly little penguin.
They had been walking for so long that even the adults no longer felt like moving much, yet she seemed incapable of staying still. One moment she was running after the grown-ups, and the next she was off pestering Fat Chef for something to eat.
And now she was running outside again.
Nanshu sighed. “Children really do have endless energy.”
Not to mention Jiang Yunsui, who could repair herself and clear away her fatigue whenever she got tired.
“Fat Grandpa, there are dandelions here.”
“Let me take a look…”
They found quite a few familiar wild vegetables. This valley really was wonderful.
Then, suddenly, she spotted something strange and dug it out to have a look.
“Wow, a dead bug!”
“Why did it grow a horn?”
Fat Chef asked, “What is it?”
He leaned in for a look and let out a surprised sound.
“Isn’t this cordyceps?”
“A bug?”
Fat Chef said, “That’s not a bug. This thing is a medicinal herb, and it’s pretty expensive too.”
“Oh my, this cordyceps is so plump!”
“It’s not small, either. Where did you find it? Let’s look for more. Maybe the Young Master can use it.”
Jiang Yunsui’s eyes immediately sparkled. “Then I’ll keep looking.”
But cordyceps was truly tiny. Only a small, tender sprout-like point poked out of the ground, while the rest was buried in the soil.
They also had to dig carefully, or the herb would snap.
Jiang Yunsui simply shifted the little bundle holding the egg onto her back, then lay flat on the ground to search.
Her eyes were sharp, and she really did find another one.
“Fat Grandpa, I found another one~”
This one was even larger than the first, about the size of a woman’s little finger.
“Your eyes really are something. I still haven’t found one.”
The two of them became so absorbed in searching for cordyceps that they forgot to go back. Ji Yan’an and the others eventually came looking for them.
When they found this place, they saw the two of them crawling on the ground.
No matter how one looked at it, it was bizarre.
Ji Yan’an: “…”
Song Jin folded his arms. “What exactly are you two doing?”
Hearing the voice, Jiang Yunsui turned her head. She got up from the ground, bundled something in the front of her clothes, and ran back.
“Ji Yan’an, hurry and see if you can use this.”
She nearly tripped as she ran, but Shen Qingzhu was quick-eyed and quick-handed, catching her in time.
With that, he caught sight of the things in her arms, and his gaze flickered.
“Cordyceps.”
“That’s right, that’s right. I found them over there.”
Shen Qingzhu picked one up.
As a doctor, he could tell at a glance that the cordyceps in his hand was of top quality.
Whether in size or medicinal potency, it far surpassed the cordyceps sold on the market.
“Good heavens. There are actually cordyceps of this quality here.”
Nanshu’s eyes went wide.
He knew almost all of the Young Master’s medicines, and cordyceps was one of them.
This stuff was very expensive, right up there with ginseng and deer antler.
Their Young Master had to buy a large amount of cordyceps every year, and the ones he bought were not even this big.
“The Young Master’s medicine needs cordyceps. Doctor Shen, hurry and see if this kind will work.”
If it did, then they would have to dig up more and bring it back. Just how much money would that save?
Their Young Master had never lacked money before because he had the inheritance left behind by the Crown Prince to fall back on.
But now, in order to raise troops, and good troops at that, he had to spend a great deal of money every month. If this continued, the Young Master might not even be able to afford his medicine anymore.
Shen Qingzhu nodded. “It will work. The cordyceps here are of even higher quality than the ones purchased for the estate.”
At once, Nanshu’s eyes lit up.
