Chapter 260
Chapter 260
This was Jiang Yunsui’s first visit to her estate.
It was not especially large, but it still encompassed a little over two hundred mu of land.
Most of the fields were planted with the two main crops: wheat and sweet potatoes.
The sweet potatoes occupied the poorer soil.
Another two mu were planted with sunflowers for their seeds, and seven mu with watermelons.
The estate’s houses were occupied by the Steward and servants who managed the property.
With the owners visiting, the Steward naturally attended them with great care and had the finest rooms prepared.
“A stream runs nearby, which makes irrigation easier. The wheat is growing well too.”
The Steward introduced them to the estate as they walked.
“Those are the watermelon fields. The vines are thriving.”
There were far more watermelons here than in Jiang Yunsui’s courtyard.
She ran into the field for a look. They were not as large as the ones at home, but they were still excellent. If sold, they would certainly bring in plenty of money.
The little girl began racing wildly through the field.
“Zuozuo, Youyou! There are watermelon thieves over there!”
Fields inevitably attracted animals looking for a free meal. Even the wheat fields had sparrows stealing grain.
Jiang Yunsui had not expected to encounter animals eating her watermelons on her very first visit. When she looked closely, she discovered they were wild boars!
And there was more than one.
The Steward was alarmed. For the owners to discover such a problem on their first visit reflected a serious oversight on his part.
Ji Yan’an said nothing about it. He merely ordered his men to make sure the boars did not hurt Jiang Yunsui.
She was not frightened of them in the least and bounded all over the place.
With two dogs, a wolf, and the guards helping, they soon captured two adult boars and five piglets.
The two adults were bitten to death, their screams nearly piercing the heavens.
The five piglets survived. They squealed and trembled, all four legs securely bound.
Jiang Yunsui asked, “Fat Grandpa, are we eating wild boar today?”
Fat Chef replied, “Now that we have wild boar, of course we are. Leave the meat to me. I guarantee it’ll be delicious.”
The people of the estate helped butcher the carcasses while Jiang Yunsui studied the five piglets.
“What should we do with these little ones?”
She tossed a watermelon rind, stripped clean of flesh, into the makeshift pen.
The piglets were remarkably carefree. They immediately stopped whining and began fighting over the rind.
The Steward said, “Piglets this small have hardly any meat. We could eat them if you don’t mind-their flesh is more tender than an adult boar’s-or simply release them.”
Jiang Yunsui clapped her hands. “We can raise them!”
The Steward shook his head repeatedly. “That won’t work. Wild boars are too vicious. They’re difficult to raise and might break the fence and escape.”
Memories of pig farming surfaced in Jiang Yunsui’s Inherited Memories.
Some spirits chose to live among humans.
One wild-boar spirit had become a prosperous pig farmer in the mortal world. The pork from his animals tasted better than anyone else’s.
“They need to be castrated.”
“Hiss…”
The people around her sucked in sharp breaths. The way they looked at the little girl changed.
Nanshu’s mouth twitched. “Who taught you that?”
Jiang Yunsui muttered, “But castrated pigs have better tempers, grow faster, and taste better.”
Ji Yan’an and the others knew strange ideas occasionally appeared in her mind. Oddly enough, even Jiang Yunsui herself was sometimes unfamiliar with them.
Ji Yan’an nodded.
Nanshu stared. “We’re really doing this? Fine, then. Who’s going to do it?”
Everyone looked at one another. Not a single person moved.
“Is there a butcher here?”
A butcher who slaughtered pigs would know their bodies and should be more practiced at castration.
“There is,” the Steward said. “He’s helping butcher the wild boars over there. I’ll call him.”
When the butcher arrived and learned what they wanted, conflict filled his face.
“Piglets might not survive after being cut like that.”
It was an injury, after all. If the wound was mishandled, they could die within days.
“We can stitch it closed,” Jiang Yunsui said. “I have medicine too.”
It was medicine for external wounds. Even the wild boars would enjoy the finest treatment.
The boars might have asked whether anyone else wanted this good fortune.
There was no need for exquisite tools to stitch a piglet’s wound. Ordinary needle and thread disinfected with alcohol would suffice.
The butcher began. Since he was unfamiliar with the procedure, the first piglet screamed as though its heart were being torn apart.
Every man present felt a chill between his legs and hurriedly looked away.
This seemed even worse than having its throat cut in one stroke.
“Done.”
After finishing the first piglet, the butcher’s forehead was drenched with sweat.
Jiang Yunsui crouched beside him without the slightest fear.
“You have to stitch it up.”
Why did that soft little voice sound like a demon’s whisper?
At least, it must have sounded that way to the piglet that had just gone under the knife.
They sprinkled medicine over the wound and returned the animal to the pen. It curled up in a corner, whimpering.
After the first, the others were easier.
With a numb expression, the butcher castrated the remaining piglets and put them back.
Once Jiang Yunsui had watched all five procedures, she ran off to inspect the cold corpses of their parents.
But the smell of the butchering was overwhelming. She approached only briefly before the stench drove her away.
“Ji Yan’an, I want to plant lots and lots of Peach Trees here.”
“Can I buy all the land over there?”
Little Mushroom had grand ambitions.
“I want grapes, loquats, apples, cherries, and pomegranates too.”
Greedy Little Mushroom listed every fruit she wanted to eat. She intended to grow vast quantities of them all.
Nanshu said, “Your stomach is small, but your appetite is enormous. Can you possibly eat that much?”
“If I can’t finish it, I can sell it or give it away.”
Ji Yan’an gave a quiet hum.
“No need to buy it.”
Ji Yan’an had delivered an entire sentence today. Jiang Yunsui’s eyes lit up, and she pestered him to continue.
The little girl truly loved stirring up trouble from the sidelines.
Unfortunately, Ji Yan’an refused to say anything else. He was stubbornly concerned with his dignity and cared far too much about his image.
As his trusted aide, Nanshu naturally translated.
“The land over there is also in the Young Master’s name. He means he’ll give it directly to you if you want it, Little Yunsui.”
Jiang Yunsui exclaimed, “Ji Yan’an, you’re so rich!”
Ji Yan’an gave her a reserved glance.
“I want it! I want it!”
“Ji Yan’an, I want a shop too. I’m going to sell watermelons!”
Watermelons this delicious naturally had to be shared with everyone.
And she could make money from them.
Little Mushroom had developed an awareness that she could not live off her existing wealth forever. She might be fortunate and strangely unlucky at the same time, stumbling upon wonderful things after every mishap, but a shop would earn money every month.
Little Mushroom was eager to try.
For Ji Yan’an, this was no difficulty at all. He owned many shops in Mobei.
In the past, shops here had been worth little and produced almost no income. Only this year had they begun earning some money.
The shops belonged to the Ji Family and had naturally passed into his name.
