Chapter 135
Chapter 135
Zuozuo and Youyou had very sensitive noses, but the weather made the search difficult, and the grassland was far too vast.
“Woof, woof, woof…”
Zuozuo Youyou sniffed here and snuffled there, then suddenly took off in a certain direction.
“Follow them.”
Song Jin immediately ordered the others to keep up.
Before long, they arrived at a spot where vultures could be seen circling in the distance.
“That looks like a body over there.”
At those words, everyone’s heart sank.
Jiang Yunsui clutched the wooden tag Xiao Xing had given her. She didn’t even know what else to hold on to, and kept muttering under her breath.
“It’s not him. It’s not him…”
“The clothes are the same as the people who tried to assassinate the Young Master.”
Hearing that, everyone let out a complete sigh of relief.
“Looks like we’re heading in the right direction.”
They had been out searching for several days now. They had followed the two dogs the whole way, yet had found no clues at all, and everyone had inevitably grown restless.
Now, seeing the assassin’s corpse instead made them relax.
They had not found Young Master Ji and his group, but they had found the body of an assassin. That proved they had not gone the wrong way.
“Keep searching.”
The snow on the grassland had already begun to melt, so the horses could run a little faster now.
That night, they found a place to rest for the time being.
Unexpectedly, they ran into a Barbarian Army unit.
Their elite guards fought the Barbarian Army to protect Song Jin and Jiang Yunsui.
Song Jin fled with her and the two dogs. Because it was night, neither of them knew which direction they had run in.
By the time they came back to their senses, it was already daylight, and they had been separated from the guards.
Song Jin looked utterly exhausted. He wet his throat with water from his waterskin.
They had not managed to bring many supplies, and their water was almost gone.
“Want some?”
Jiang Yunsui shook her head. “I’m not thirsty.”
She was not lying.
She could draw moisture from the air to replenish the water in her body, so she could manage without drinking.
“Once the water’s gone, we’ll only be able to eat snow.”
Song Jin got down from the horse and lifted Jiang Yunsui down as well.
“It’s dirty.”
Little Mushroom mumbled.
Snow looked white, but there were all sorts of filthy things hidden inside it.
Song Jin found a random spot and sat down. “I know, but it’s still better than dying of thirst, right? Besides, we have a little pot. We can just boil it.”
“Sigh… Good thing we hung a little pot on. Let’s get something to eat first.”
“Zuozuo Youyou, go hunt.”
The two dogs wagged their tails and ran over, rubbing against Jiang Yunsui.
Jiang Yunsui said, “I want to go too.”
She took a few biscuits from her little bag and handed them to Song Jin.
Earlier, she and Fat Chef had worked on an oven together. After nearly a month of tinkering, they had finally managed to make one that could bake bread and biscuits.
These little biscuits had come from that oven. They were easy to carry and could fill the stomach.
Song Jin did not stand on ceremony.
He took his weapon and prepared to go hunting.
A few minutes later, Jiang Yunsui’s scream rang out.
Song Jin tucked her under his arm and ran with every last bit of strength he had.
Jiang Yunsui looked back. The bear was still right behind them.
“Don’t come over here!!!”
White Horse had already run ahead of them, and those legs of his, which usually moved with that odd same-side gait, were somehow much faster than usual.
Song Jin took a deep breath. Using lightness skill took energy too.
So he hurried after the horse ahead and leaped onto its back.
“I have to say, your luck really is something. Spring has barely started, and you still managed to run into a bear.”
Jiang Yunsui looked worriedly at Zuozuo and Youyou. Fortunately, she had improved the two dogs’ constitutions very well, so now they were only lagging a little behind the horse as they ran.
“How was I supposed to know there was a bear lying there?”
Little Mushroom’s voice was aggrieved and full of disbelief.
“It was buried under the snow. I even tripped over it.”
“Roar!”
The bear kept chasing them, its eyes fixed on them like they were ducks already at its beak.
Except these ducks were still alive and flying.
“Woof, woof, woof…”
Zuozuo Youyou barked furiously behind them, but their running speed did not slow in the slightest.
“Awooo…”
Song Jin was just about to shoot the bear with his crossbow when he suddenly heard a wolf’s howl. For a moment, he could hardly believe it.
“Are we really this unlucky?”
Jiang Yunsui: “…”
It definitely wasn’t because of her.
Even worse, those wolves were running this way.
Great. A three-way standoff.
Wolves, bear, and them.
Heh…
For a moment, all three sides watched one another warily, and no one moved.
Sitting on horseback, Jiang Yunsui swallowed.
“How about… you two fight? We’ll bow out?”
Song Jin really wanted to nod.
That made perfect sense.
But the bear seemed more interested in them and lunged straight at them.
Song Jin fired a bolt at the bear.
His aim was still excellent.
It was just that the bear’s hide was too thick. Though it was injured, that only enraged it further.
“Roar!”
“Woof, woof…”
The two mastiffs were fierce as well, charging up and joining the fight.
Stimulated by the smell of blood, the wolf pack rushed in too.
The scene instantly turned into one massive brawl.
Jiang Yunsui shouted, “Zuozuo Youyou, run!”
Song Jin also tugged the horse and hurriedly broke into a run.
Hearing the command, Zuozuo Youyou did not linger in battle. The moment they broke free, they ran like the wind.
The wolf pack could not catch up to the two of them at all.
The bear, riled up and starving, had a wolf clamped in its jaws. The taste of blood drove it into a frenzy.
It no longer cared about Jiang Yunsui and the others, and kept attacking the wolf pack instead.
Naturally, the wolves fought back.
While the two sides battled, Jiang Yunsui and the others fled as fast as they could.
Only after they had gotten very far away did they finally stop, still shaken.
“That scared me to death.”
Jiang Yunsui patted her chest, lingering fear written all over her face.
Song Jin pinched a lock of her hair.
“It really was terrifying. Good thing they started fighting each other.”
Jiang Yunsui’s stomach growled.
“Song Jin, I’m so hungry.”
Song Jin was hungry too, but he could endure it better than Jiang Yunsui.
“I’ll go see if there’s any prey I can hunt. Stay right here and don’t go anywhere.”
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to take her with him. He was genuinely afraid Jiang Yunsui would be unlucky enough to run into something again.
If that happened, not only would they fail to catch any prey, they would have to flee for their lives again.
Jiang Yunsui pouted and gave an obedient little “oh.”
“Then take Zuozuo Youyou with you too. I’ll be safer by myself.”
She huffed twice.
If she was alone, she could activate Stealth Mode.
The little girl’s big eyes stared at Song Jin.
“You’re holding me back.”
Song Jin: “…”
Talk about the guilty party filing the complaint first.
He gave the little girl’s cheeks a hard pinch.
“You really are something!”
Then he actually took Zuozuo Youyou and the horse with him.
Jiang Yunsui crouched on the ground and rubbed her little face, which had been pinched red.
“So rough. Too much!”
Her little face was going to get pinched fat.
Jiang Yunsui muttered to herself inwardly.
She ate a biscuit, found a clean rock to sit on, crossed her legs, and began cultivating.
Grow mushrooms, grow mushrooms.
She did not have much in the way of supplies on her now. For water, they could still melt snow, but there really was hardly anything left to eat.
Oh, there were still a few sweet potatoes.
So her mushrooms were very important.
Jiang Yunsui felt a little smug.
She was super useful.
Bringing her along was the same as bringing lots and lots of edible mushrooms.
Jiang Yunsui felt that it was about time and opened her eyes, only to be drawn to the little creature that had appeared in front of her.
What a beautiful, pure white fox!
