Chapter 6
Chapter 6
Jiang Yunsui scratched her head. He just left like that?
Well, it had nothing to do with her anymore, so she didn’t care.
Being the carefree soul she was, Jiang Yunsui tossed the matter to the back of her mind and pulled Cook Chen by the hand to head back.
All along the way, Cook Chen was still in a daze.
The scene just now had truly frightened her.
“Aunt Chen, let’s eat.”
Jiang Yunsui diligently opened the food container and pushed it toward Cook Chen with a wide smile on her small face.
It was only then that Cook Chen saw clearly what she had brought back. Upon opening it, she gasped.
These dishes were not something ordinary people could afford to eat.
“This… Yunsui, where did you get this?”
Jiang Yunsui answered obediently, “Young Master Ji gave it to me.”
“What?”
Jiang Yunsui urged her in a milky voice, “Eat quickly, Auntie. I’m already full.”
She even patted her stomach, her youthful voice carrying a hint of regret. “My tummy is tiny; I can’t fit much inside.”
Human food was delicious. She wished she could stuff her belly to the brim, but the Little Mushroom didn’t have a very large appetite.
Hmm… though it seemed her appetite was a bit bigger than that Young Master’s.
Thinking this, Jiang Yunsui felt happy again.
Cook Chen looked at the food. It was all high-quality stuff; it would be a waste to throw it away.
She might as well eat.
Regardless, her mind was still a bit muddled. She didn’t know if the incident with the two maidservants would end up implicating her and Little Yunsui.
Jiang Yunsui let out a yawn. She was sleepy, her little head nodding off.
Seeing her like this, Cook Chen couldn’t help but feel her heart soften. She really looked like a soft, innocent little kitten.
“Go to sleep. I’ll finish this, clean up, and then it’ll be time for me to sleep too.”
Jiang Yunsui nodded. She was ready to just flop down and sleep, but Cook Chen pulled her back to wash her face and feet first. Only then did she climb onto the bed, swaying with exhaustion.
Enduring her sleepiness, she very politely said goodnight to Cook Chen.
“Goodnight, Auntie.”
After speaking in her soft, sweet voice, her little head hit the pillow and she fell fast asleep.
Cook Chen very gently covered her with a blanket.
She stared at Jiang Yunsui’s small face for a long time.
When this little girl was first brought here, she had been covered in blood. Steward Li had called several servants together to ask if anyone was willing to look after her.
The others either had families of their own and weren’t willing to care for a little girl, or they were young and didn’t want to be burdened with a tag-along.
Cook Chen’s heart had truly softened at the sight. Thinking of her own children, she had stepped forward to take on the task when everyone else remained silent.
Jiang Yunsui was very well-behaved. After waking up, she didn’t cry or cause trouble, aside from some slightly strange behavior.
She was very timid. Except for Cook Chen, she hardly spoke to anyone else. If someone came to their quarters, Jiang Yunsui would hide.
But today, seeing her being bullied, the timid Jiang Yunsui had actually stood up for her. Even though the girl had been terrified, she had still tried to vent her anger for her.
And then there were the things she brought back.
Thinking of all this, Cook Chen’s heart felt incredibly tender.
“Suisui, from now on, I will raise you as my own child. We’ll depend on each other.”
She had thought she would spend the rest of her life waiting to die in loneliness, but Jiang Yunsui was a gift sent by the Heavens.
After finishing the meal, Cook Chen tidied up the room. She then took her and Jiang Yunsui’s dirty clothes and sat by the door to wash them.
Halfway through the washing, Ji Yi, dressed entirely in black, appeared at the door. He nearly scared the soul right out of Cook Chen.
“Where is she?” Ji Yi asked in a muffled voice.
Cook Chen asked apprehensively, “Are you looking for Yunsui? Sir, Yunsui is still young and speaks without thinking. Could you please show some mercy…”
“The Young Master wants to see her.”
Cook Chen was full of worry, but she still pointed toward the room.
If the Young Master wanted to find someone, there was no stopping him.
Ji Yi went inside and circled the small room a few times, even checking under the table.
He walked back out with a frustrated look on his face. “I couldn’t find her.”
Cook Chen was baffled. “Huh? Isn’t Yunsui sleeping?”
Ji Yi paused. This time, he headed straight for the bed. After some fumbling, he finally found the person curled into a ball under the covers.
He stared at Jiang Yunsui’s flushed little face for a good while. As expected, this kid wasn’t normal.
“Wake up.”
Ji Yi crouched by the bed and gave Jiang Yunsui several expressionless shoves, but she didn’t wake up.
He couldn’t help but fall into deep thought. How could someone sleep as if they were dead?
He simply rolled up the bedding, hoisting her over his shoulder like a human spring roll, and vanished like a gust of wind.
Cook Chen chased after him but couldn’t catch up.
In less than the time it takes to drink half a cup of tea, Ji Yi had brought both the bedding and the person to Ji Yan’an’s study.
“Master, I’ve brought her.”
He then respectfully placed the ‘spring roll’ in front of Ji Yan’an.
Staring at the large lump before him, Ji Yan’an fell into thought.
He had asked for the person to be brought over, but what on earth had Ji Yi brought back?
“Wake her up.”
Ji Yi let out an “oh” and crouched down. He grabbed a corner of the quilt and gave it a shake, causing the little girl inside to roll out smoothly.
She happened to roll right to Ji Yan’an’s feet.
Even so, she didn’t wake up.
Ji Yan’an was genuinely envious and jealous of this damn sleep quality.
Tormented by the poison in his body and unable to sleep well for a long time, Ji Yan’an stared at Jiang Yunsui’s face, his resentment almost manifesting into a physical aura.
He stood up, then crouched down to pinch her little face.
It was chubby and soft, with a surprisingly good texture.
He gave it a tug; it was incredibly elastic.
Ji Yan’an remained expressionless. Still not waking up?
He pinched her nose.
Jiang Yunsui let out two whimpers and opened her mouth to breathe.
Ji Yan’an: “…”
He silently reached out with his other hand and pinched her mouth into a little duck bill.
This time, Jiang Yunsui was finally smothered awake, opening her eyes blearily.
The corners of Ji Yan’an’s mouth curled up slightly. Heh.
But before he could savor his triumph for even two seconds, the kid slapped him on the head with her small palm.
“How dare you!”
Jiang Yunsui let out a yawn and rubbed her eyes, looking completely dazed and unaware of what she had just done.
“Jiang Yunsui.”
Ji Yan’an’s voice carried a hint of gritted teeth.
Jiang Yunsui: Hmm? Who’s Jiang Yunsui?
Ji Yan’an pinched her little face to make her look directly at him. “You sure slept well.”
His tone was ominous.
Jiang Yunsui looked at the person in front of her, tilted her head slightly, and asked in a soft, muddled voice, “Who are you?”
“Open your eyes and take a good look!”
Jiang Yunsui gradually woke up. Of course, as a Little Mushroom who had been forced awake, she was full of resentment.
“Where did you steal me to from my house?”
Her childish voice was thick with annoyance. “What do you want? I want to sleep.”
Ji Yan’an sneered. “Sleep? Did I give you permission to sleep?”
She wanted to sleep? He wanted to sleep too!
Jiang Yunsui stared at him for two seconds. Although this Young Master Ji was skinny, his fists were bigger than hers, he was taller than her, and he was mean.
It was settled: she couldn’t beat him.
Moreover, she still had to rely on him to help sever her worldly karma.
So, caught between being pathetic and being angry, the Little Mushroom chose to be pathetically angry.
She crouched on the ground, a thoroughly dejected Little Mushroom.
Ji Yan’an slowly sipped his tea. “Tell me about those two people. What did you hear, and what did you see?”
Having not slept enough, Jiang Yunsui’s reactions were slow.
“What people?”
