Chapter 111
Chapter 111
Watching Zuozuo’s performance, Tang Qingsong wanted the dogs even more.
Jiang Yunsui shook her little head.
“No, I won’t give them away. Zuozuo Youyou are my good friends.”
The two dogs were delighted.
Tang Qingsong could only sigh in regret. He understood. If he had two dogs like these, he wouldn’t be willing to part with them either.
The adult and the child brought the two dogs to the army’s Dog Camp.
They hadn’t even reached the place yet when Jiang Yunsui heard wave after wave of barking.
Zuozuo Youyou held their heads high and puffed out their chests as they escorted Jiang Yunsui inside.
Heiwa was in the Dog Camp at the moment. From a distance, the moment he saw Jiang Yunsui arrive, he immediately wagged his tail and ran over.
As soon as he came up, he pressed close to the pretty Little Mushroom.
Jiang Yunsui patted the big dog’s head.
“Heiwa is so good, so good.”
The other two dogs instantly got jealous and started vying for attention.
The three most formidable dogs in the camp were all circling around the little girl, and Tang Qingsong was practically green with envy.
The other dogs also poked their heads out curiously.
Jiang Yunsui was truly in her element here.
The moment a tiny bit of Imperial Flowing Essence seeped from her, the dogs all howled and crowded over to press against her.
Only… they nearly squeezed her into a dried mushroom.
“Don’t push. Stop pushing…”
No more, no more. This blessing was a little too much for her to handle.
The pack of dogs looked at her pitifully.
Jiang Yunsui gave a small cough.
“Zuozuo Youyou, where do you train?”
Tang Qingsong took her to see the dogs’ training grounds.
Training the dogs mainly focused on their sense of smell, along with obedience and aggression.
Tang Qingsong personally led Heiwa through each of the drills.
Then he glanced at Zuozuo Youyou.
“They can complete all of these very well. It’s just that sometimes they’re especially rebellious and won’t follow orders.”
Sometimes, when he told them to do one drill, they insisted on doing another.
“Want to give it a try?”
Jiang Yunsui pointed at herself. “Me? Can I?”
Tang Qingsong nodded. “Try it. We’ll start with finding objects. Zuozuo and Youyou have exceptionally sharp noses.”
Little Mushroom was eager to try. “Okay!”
Zuozuo and Youyou needed to find the hidden items.
They were rattan balls stuffed with scraps of cloth.
Tang Qingsong handed her a piece of cloth.
“Let them smell this. The hidden items have the same scent as this.”
Jiang Yunsui took it and called Zuozuo and Youyou over.
The two dogs merely sniffed it.
“Zuozuo Youyou, go find them.”
She patted both dogs on the head, and they immediately wagged their tails and shot off.
Very soon, each came back with a rattan ball in its mouth.
After placing them in front of Jiang Yunsui, they ran off again.
Everyone just watched as the two dogs patiently ran back and forth. Before long, more than twenty rattan balls had been placed in front of Jiang Yunsui.
Some had been dug out of the ground. Others had actually been retrieved from the water.
Tang Qingsong said, “That’s enough, that’s enough. If they keep going, all fifty hidden rattan balls will be found.”
Next came training their aggression.
Tang Qingsong had someone bring over several cages. After the cages were opened, a few wild rabbits darted out, running extremely fast.
The two dogs stared at them, looking as if they wished they could pounce at once.
But they didn’t move. They were waiting for Jiang Yunsui’s command.
Tang Qingsong said, “Why were they never this obedient when I trained them?”
It seemed the problem wasn’t the training. It was the person giving the orders.
But he had to admit, if Zuozuo Youyou only took orders from him, and only listened to him, that would feel incredibly satisfying.
Jiang Yunsui said, “Zuozuo Youyou, go.”
As her soft, milky command fell, the two dogs instantly charged out.
In the blink of an eye, they had shot far ahead and were lunging fiercely at the wild rabbits.
That big-mouthed rascal snapped up a wild rabbit in a single bite.
The rabbit died before it even had the chance to struggle.
Then the two dogs carried it over in their mouths and placed it in front of Jiang Yunsui.
Tang Qingsong: Jealous, jealous, so jealous…
The other dog trainers present all looked at Jiang Yunsui with envy.
Jiang Yunsui wore a tiny, proud expression, her chin lifting slightly.
“Suisui, when Zuozuo and Youyou grow up, Grandpa Tang will find them mates. When they have pups, how about giving Grandpa Tang a few?”
If he couldn’t get Zuozuo Youyou, he could at least try for their puppies, right?
Jiang Yunsui said, “Okay. If there are lots of little babies, I’ll let Grandpa Tang raise a few.”
If there were too many, she probably wouldn’t be able to raise them all herself anyway.
Tang Qingsong was instantly delighted.
He had spent the latter half of his life dealing with dogs, so naturally, he loved a good dog.
This was Jiang Yunsui’s first time visiting the military camp. After playing at the Dog Camp for a while, she wanted to look around elsewhere.
It was almost time to eat, so Tang Qingsong took her to the mess hall.
Jiang Yunsui remembered that Fat Chef seemed to have come from the army cooks.
So she happily trotted after him to the cooks’ camp.
It was just about mealtime, and a long line had already formed where the food was being served.
The dogs had to eat too, so Jiang Yunsui didn’t bring Zuozuo and Youyou with her. She only stayed by Grandpa Tang’s side and followed him in through another path without having to line up.
Ordinary soldiers and ranked soldiers did not eat the same food.
Someone like Old General Tang had his own small kitchen and ate much better.
In this era, no one was foolish enough to jump out and complain that it was unfair, or ask why they got to eat so well.
The ordinary soldiers were envious, but they were already satisfied just being able to eat their fill.
Jiang Yunsui stood on tiptoe and craned her neck for a look. In the line for the ordinary soldiers, everyone held a large earthenware bowl. Their meal consisted of a big sweet potato steamed bun, coarse rice, and some mixed vegetables boiled together.
There was meat in today’s big pot of stew. The lucky ones who got a chunk of meat were grinning so hard their faces nearly split, while everyone else looked at them with envy.
“Come on. We’re eating over here.”
Tang Qingsong patted the little one’s head.
Jiang Yunsui nodded. “Coming.”
“Grandpa Tang, their food isn’t that good. Why are they still so happy?”
It could be said that Jiang Yunsui had hardly suffered at all since coming here, especially when it came to food. Ji Yan’an and Fat Chef both spoiled her.
In her eyes, those dishes really weren’t good. Even the servants of the Ji Family ate better than that.
Tang Qingsong stroked her little head.
“The closer people are to the bottom, the easier they are to satisfy.”
“I used to be the same.”
Tang Qingsong thought back to his younger self. Hadn’t he also started as a lowly foot soldier?
“Don’t think about that anymore. Let’s see what dishes they have today.”
“Old Tang is here.”
Inside a room, several people were already seated at the dining table.
After greeting Old General Tang, they all turned their gazes to Jiang Yunsui.
Some remembered who she was, while others did not recognize her.
“Well now, you’re even helping look after children these days?”
Tang Qingsong laughed heartily and said, “What do you mean, helping look after a child? This little girl and I just hit it off. Remember those two new dogs at my place? She raised them.”
Hearing this, everyone at the table looked at Jiang Yunsui in surprise.
They all knew Tang Qingsong’s skill at raising dogs. The dogs under his command could go onto the battlefield and kill Barbarians.
But recently, two mastiffs had arrived. With their bearing, size, and appearance, anyone who saw them had to praise them, and they were especially fierce when chasing down prey.
Aside from being a little disobedient, everything else about them was so good it made people green with envy.
Who would have thought they had been raised by this little girl?
